Herbalism confusion & Pets?

Two things...

1. I am trying to learn how to gather and I talked to a guy in the Spore Grove that seamed like he would teach me, but it didn't work. What do i have to do?

2. I can't figure out what to do with my newbie pet. I have food and it tells me that it wants to help, but I can't get it to do anything.

Press K, do you have the extraction skill in there?

If so then look for the green grass icon on your minimap and when you find it just click it, your skill will increase the more you gather.

The newbie pet is there just to give you a mini gods redemption ticket (only usable if you are below lv 30) and to whisper you annoying nonsense of what you should be killing at your level xD

The food part is actually for a magic pets http://runesofmagic.gamepedia.com/Magic_Pets

Have fun :)

If you don't have the general skill Extraction, you can get it by talking to a variety of instructors with the subtitle Herbalism Instructor. The first herbalism instructor is located in your start town, and you will get quests early on to get all the gatherings.

No, I don't know everything. I just use my knowledge to form educated guesses
And I listen when others say I am wrong in order to learn.
