question about starting lands for new characters

Just wanted to know if its possible to get to the elf starting land or the dwarf starting area if I make a human instead. It looks like the quests in these areas still appear on my map at least but I cant find any way to get there. Friend made an elf so I thought I could still go there and do some quests with them even if I picked a different race. Or I guess thats not possible is it ? Sorry for all the noob questions, I just havent played in many years. Pretty much starting over from scratch.

I don't think you can get to Yrvandis if you're not a Dwarf, but don't quote me on that.

Getting to Elf Island has become very easy though. At level 10+ go find the Mirror World NPCs at the bottom of the stairs between Central and the Administrative District of Varanas, chat up the one that offers info about Mirror World and a quest marker will pop over another NPC there. (sorry, can't get into the game atm so can't check NPC names) The quest includes a teleport to Elf Island. When you use it, just remember to unlock the Snoop at the Haven of Departure so you can go back later.

You can also just find someone who's willing to port you over.

Side note: If you're a gatherer make sure you don't pop lvl 20 in any gathering skill until after you've done the opening quests through to questing for the gathering instructors in both zones (Pioneers in Howling Mtns and the ones in the Valley of Prep) or you'll get locked out of the quests. If it actually is possible to get to Yrvandis it probably applies to those gathering instructors as well. Same for the short side quest chain between Woody Woods and the herb gathering instructor in Pioneers - get it done before you pop lvl 20 gathering as well.

I'm told that also applies to taking Alchemy to lvl 20 prior to completing the quest *Ami is not food* offered by the alchemy instructor in Logar - get the quest done first or you won't be able to do it.

Only way you can get to the dwarf starting zone with an elf or human is through the use of a portal/passageway rune from someone who has already marked a location in that area for you.

It lets you through and you can quest that way?

Cool, added note to self.

Yrvandis is a much better starting zone than HM, lol. 'Means my new tons can skip that entirely.

Yes, you will be able to quest, I dont believe there are any quests in the game that are race dependent.

You cant get any dwarf titles as a non dwarf, a lot of the quests run a check for race=dwarf. I believe these quests also don't even open up if you start as a human and changed your race to dwarf, so even if they enabled the option to race change in future, these quests/titles would still be locked.

Sorry I do not quest, I simply remember a Elf character in game mentioning that they have been to the dwarf zone to complete the quests there in order to gain more titles. Was from a trustworthy source, so I'd look into trying to still at least, unless they were just remember things wrong.

Yes you can do a few dwarf quests as non Dwarf, but most are locked and only available for the dwarfs.
