Easy Guide to PvP
This is a guide for beginners on the PvP servers. First off I’ll start by addressing some frequently asked beginner questions:
1. When can I PvP in RoM?
- Assuming you are on a PvP server, you can engage in battle with other players when you have reached lvl 15. When you reach lvl 15 you can go to the Varanas Class Hall and learn your “Enable pk status” skill.
2. How does the skill work?
- Press “K” and find the skill with “PK” on the icon named “Enable PK Status” click this skill to activate your PK status. After doing so you will have a red mask appear on top of your player’s head. This is how you can know its activated. While it is activated all other player’s names (lvl 15 or above) will appear red to you, and when you target them you can engage in combat with them automatically by clicking any attack command.
3. I enabled my PK status and now it wont go away. What do I do?
- To deactivate your PK status simply look to the top right corner of your screen (where ever your status buffs/ailments appear for your display this is simply for default display) and you should see a little icon with “PK” on it. Right click the icon and it should disappear. The red mask above your head will disappear as well.
Clicking your PK skill after activating PK mode will not deactivate PK status.
4. How do I tell what my reputation is?
- To the right of your name on your character there is a circle much like the one on the left of your name. This circle does not display your classes like the one on the left does but instead displays your reputation. Normally if you have not engaged in any pvp this circle is white. If you engage in pvp it can change colors accordingly. I will go over the different colors later in the guide. For a more detailed look at your current reputation press “C” look to the far left of the window and you will see it says “Reputation” underneath your stats. This will give you an actual number of your reputation (negative for evil characters and positive for good)
5. I didn’t have my PK status enabled and I was still killed?
- As long as you have reached lvl 15 or higher you become open game to everyone. Any player can kill you regardless of whether your PK status is active or not. If a player does not have bad reputation you will have to enable PK status to attack them.
6. That guard just killed me?
- If you have "criminal" status (described below) or if you have -30 or below reputation, guards can and will attack you if you get too close to them. Being killed by a guard gives you exp/tp debt just like with mobs.
Getting Started
Lets assume you’re a brand new player who has reached lvl 15 and gone to Varanas Class Hall and received the PK skill. (I would recommend dropping the skill into a slot on your display somewhere near where your attack skills are so you can access it quicker.) Now let’s say you want to go test out your new skill by killing someone. Go out and find any player you feel you can take on. (lvl 15 or above of course) Now click on your PK skill to activate your PK status. The target’s name should have turned red now. Target him and fire away with your skills.
Now you’ve successfully defeated your foe. Way to go you! But what’s this? You now have the “Criminal” status. Where did this come from? When you attack a player with your PK status active you will gain Criminal status for a short time. When this is active you can attack and be attacked by other players without your PK skill active. It should display as a red aura around your character. If you continue to kill people who don’t have Red/orange/yellow reputation, your reputation will drop and you will gain criminal with every kill. On the flip side, killing people with a yellow or worse reputation will give you the “Hunter” status, marked by a blue aura around your character. Killing evil characters will result in your reputation going up.

When you are Defeated
**Pk drops**
- When you are defeated in a PvP battle (not a duel) there is a chance you will drop items from your inventory. So far the cap is 2 items per death, but it can be stacks of the same item (ex: you drop a stack of 42 willow wood and 5 mana potions) Items that drop are anything and everything including whats in your backpack and equipped to your character. Equipment can be protected from dropping by using an “Equipment Sealing Device” purchased through the Item Shop. Be warned though, you may only wear 8 sealed pieces of gear (armor, weapons, accessories, and so on) at one time. Right click the ESD and click on the gear you wish to apply the seal to. Bound gear can drop and is not protected without a seal.
[EDIT: The most recent chapters of RoM have modified this a bit and made it so that only players with a negative or positive reputation of at least +30 or -30 (light blue or yellow) and above/below can drop gear. White reputation players cannot.]
_--TIP--_
*Store items in your Arcane Transmuter. This is basically more storage space when you aren’t combining things in it and items can be stored in it just like the backpack. Items stored in the transmuter cannot drop on death.
Difference between Reds and Blues
Reds have an increased drop rate. They will drop far more often then other characters when they die so if you plan to go red seal your equipment! Blues have a decreased drop rate. They will rarely drop to their opponents. Whites have an average drop rate and drop occasionally, more often then blues but less often then reds.
[EDIT: As stated above, white reputation players do not currently drop items on pk death.]
**Reputation loss**
- When a blue reputation character is killed by another player their reputation will drop. Depending on lvl differences the amount varies. Reds reputation goes unchanged (I never noticed it change when I was killed as a red, please tell me if I’m wrong and ill fix it)
** PK Bubble**
- When you have been killed usually when you revive (if you did not have criminal or hunter status when killed) you will have a yellow bubble around your character. This bubble prevents other players from attacking you unless it runs out or you deactivate it. While it is active you cannot attack another player. If you are killed soon after you have had a bubble, you will be revived with a stronger bubble (I, II, III) The 3 different lvls of bubble last for different periods of time, III being the longest.
**EXP Debt**
- Contrary to what some new players might believe, being killed by a player does not give you experience debt. However, if you are fighting another player and a mob hits you for the last blow and kills you, you will still get debt and it will count as the mob killed you, not the player.
**Nemesis list**
- Being killed by another player puts that players name on your Nemesis list. Allowing you to know who has killed you, how many times, and where they are, every time they log in. Killing a player on your list enough times to even the score removes them from it. You can view your list by pressing “N” and clicking on the nemesis list tab.
Winning in PvP
**Pk Drops**
- Same as when you are defeated, when you kill someone else, there is a chance they will drop items for you to pick up as your prize. This can happen regardless of your rep and the opponents rep.
[EDIT: Currently only players with positive or negative reputation drop items on pk death.]
**Criminal/Hunter**
- When you attack a negatively rep player you will gain “Hunter” status (blue aura). Attacking white or blue characters gets you “Criminal” status (red aura) Both auras run out over time. With a red aura, even if you are a positive rep player or neutral, to other players your name will appear red and you can be attacked by anyone without them losing rep or enabling PK status. Criminal will also make other players names appear red to you just as if you were a negatively rep player, meaning you may attack them without PK status and regardless of their rep. Be warned: Attacking neutral or pos rep players, even with your Criminal status, will give you negative reputation.
**Reputation**
- Killing a yellow/orange/red reputation player will result in your character gaining positive reputation. Positive reputation will eventually turn you blue. Killing Blue or white players will result in your character gaining negative rep or losing positive rep if you have any. Getting enough negative rep eventually turns you red. Killing players who have the Criminal aura does not cause you to lose reputation even if they are a white or blue rep player.
Yellow/Blue
To get yellow reputation and start your evil career you have to gain negative 30 reputation. To turn light blue you have to get positive 30 reputation.

Fun/Useful Tips
1. The PK skill can be used on either class regardless of lvl so long as one of the classes is 15 or higher. Meaning you can be lvl 15/4, swap classes so you are lvl 4/4(15) and still use your PK skill. Its fun to surprise people with this.
2. Arcane Transmuter is extra storage space! (see “PK Drops” under “When you are Defeated”
3. Use your nemesis list! If someone kills you and you want revenge, don’t go aimlessly looking for them. Use your Nemesis list because it tells you the current zone they are in. Maybe this time you’ll get the jump on them!

Or send them a message and right-click inquire there name to find out their current location.
4. If you don’t like reputation you can always PvP in the Arena, duel, or Siege war with your guild. All of those don’t award reputation. Competing in the Arena can award you Arena Points viewable by pressing “C” and going to the bottom tab labeled “PvP Ratings” Also viewable there is your Honor Points which you gain through Siege war and can be used to redeem items from certain npcs.
5. If you interact with a player that has criminal or hunter (such as healing them) you can gain criminal/hunter from them. This also applies to players under level 15 (which if you gain criminal through this, you CAN be killed regardless of your level).
6. Remember your reputation goes further then numbers. If you carelessly kill countless lowbies or grief you will be feared and/or hated by some of the community, but who knows, maybe you wanted that
