The tests done by Paz were done a few level caps ago yes.

The extensive test by Murphy were done as recently as the last level cap (87) with the same end results as Paz had a couple years ago.

after asking around with some guildies (m/w's) what they use, they too use aoth over crit sets. Ironically enough, because when they WERE using crit sets, they weren't doing as much damage per boss as the ones using Aoth sets.


This will be the unsolvable, never ending question and unanswerable "meaning to life" so to speak as a mage it seems

I never had anyone to compare myself to in Artemis. Everyone in PPK uses the crit set. Mages in other guilds don't really pug. Only way to compare myself to people from other servers is posting scrutinizers which can be difficult depending on raid composition.

And where was this Murphy's tests done? Point me to a thread or something?

you talk as if you have no idea who I'm talking about. oh well..furthermore, it really wasn't all that hard to find in the mage section if one were to just look..lol..

anyways there's a bit thrown in in the mage guide she posted that is stickied in the mage section of the forums towards the end couple pages of it.

also there was a big discussion between a lot of magic dps players about how aoth is better in this thread here (see posts by paz and mnkmurphy as well as others in there as well)

I could look for others, but those were the two sources I was citing. Mainly the "crit cap" thread though.

Not that it's scientific or anything, but when Fan had the crit set and a t12 staff, I was still outdps'ing her/equal with her with aoth and a t10 staff. Suddenly she puts aoth back on and she's kicking the crap out of me. Not scientific, but all the proof I needed to stick with aoth.

yea scientific or not, every. single. other. mage. I've talked to and testing the crit theory with has the exact same result as you just described, with Aoth set users dominating the scrut over crit set users. I've seen this in my own personal use of my Aoth set, as well as heard and seen others like yourself who can attest to it as well.

all the "scientific" testing that has been done with mages leans entirely in the favor of the 70% theory, so again, until someone shows me some data otherwise, Aoth wins over using crit sets past 70%. That's my story and I'm sticking to it lol

In the end, morale of the story is yes. This.

When I can get my hands on the mage HoE set I will switch to it. As any mage should given the chance.

yeah I know that depending on the ridiculous UD prices, I might buy one. I have 75%ish unbuffed ma.attk with the aoth set atm, but would always welcome more with the new set. I just know that if I do buy it, might as well just open my wallet and prepare to be reemed even for UD. lol


Question would be with how little I am playing rom now, is it worth it, heh

Lol idk if we'll even farm for OD after we're done. It takes a whole run and then several hours of farming trash to just pull one piece. Yes the price would have to be ridiculous to make it worth for us to farm it to sell.

Luckily I pulled at least one OD piece :D Have yet to get an int/matk. Only one more try T_T

Only way to make selling pieces viable both UD and OD is if other guilds/people farmed and sold earth essences off trash. It's solo-able but much more easy to duo or go in with a group. That's the most time consuming part, where as farming the bosses is more a cost of dying constantly and buffing. So it would bring the cost down a lot if the time part was to be cut down.

i think there is good money opportunity for the drops from hoe bosses and by that i mean the boss drops, not the accessories directly. I feel like people wont feel the incentive to farm frags unless they are a) worth enough money to be worth the farm time, b) they get the chance to pull for themselves thanks to buying bosses drop prior to farming the frags. That been said i'm curious to see what will end up hapening with hoe stuff in the near future.

im personally hoping they change the earth essence part, we did a full run the other day, got 3... drop rate is utter crap. For people wanting to make easy gold during droprate event go farm them :D

Man you are extremely lucky, that would never happen to me. Maybe one day in 10 levels itll be doable by the smaller groups :P

Yeah Earth Essence drops are weird. One run we had 5. Next run I had 24/25 to make a pull and no joke, whole run not 1 dropped. I even went out of my way and soloed mobs, nothing. It was the last run of the night too. Altho we farmed just trash to get it after. Was still funny.

so anyone that's run HoE can answer this for me, because I'm clearly not understanding fully and none of us on Govinda have cleared it yet


Does the boss drop the needed mats for EVERYONE like mentos? Or is it like, it drops one mat and everyone who needs it has to roll on it like a piece of gear? And then I get the whole farming trash for Earth Essences, that's pretty self explanatory, I'm just either too tired (4am EST at the time of writing this) or just unable to understand how that works having never run it.

Mems do drop off every boss for everyone however... Only one accessory material drops per boss PER RUN not per person. Meaning a full run grants enough boss materials to craft a single piece of gear, not counting the haidon's and earth essences.
