Account Security FYI

Hello,

Due to the increase in compromised accounts, I found it best to go over a few things with everyone to make sure your accounts are as secure as possible.

As well I would like those that read this to just go ahead and change your passwords for your accounts.

1-Account information:

No sharing.

Sharing your account is asking for trouble. Not only is this a violation of the TOS, it introduces more security risks of where your account info could be compromised. Sharing your account also will cause extra account login activity to be recorded, making it much more difficult to prove who the bad guy is should you get compromised.

2-Password strength:

Do not use common passwords.

Following the famous phrase “Keep It Simple Stupid” or KISS is not the way to go with passwords.

Passwords should be at least 8 characters long, using a combination of letters, numbers, and capitalization. The more complex and longer the password, the better.

Using your account as part of the password, or words included in any dictionary will weaken password.

Examples of bad passwords:
admin1q2w, romrocks84

Using the account name in the password: (using romfan as an account example):
romfan84, romfan1984.

Decent passwords:
Ti34ZyZ0oa *example*

3-Phishing sites:

Legit 3rd party sites do NOT ask for account info..avoid gold seller sites!!!

A legitimate third party website will NEVER ask for your Runes of Magic account information. If you do visit any third-party sites that require you to register for free give aways, use a different user name/password than your RoM account, and use proper passwords. Only visit “Give-Away” sites that are official.

There are known applications that promise free gold or diamonds, or zeevex codes. They ask you for your account info, and instead of sending you the diamonds, your info is sent to someone's personal server. Instead of diamonds, you get hacked. Those that do not ask for your information could also be a key logging program.

4- Add-ons:

Make sure it is free of viruses, and downloaded from a legitimate site. Only use add-ons from a trusted source. Even from a trusted source, find as much information as possible before downloading and using.

**Change passwords regularly. At least every four to six months.**

Do not use the same passwords for everything – keep personal banking passwords separate from gaming websites – the more diverse your password is among your various accounts, the more secure your accounts will be.

I hope this helps out!

Footnote:

You can change your password on the Account Management page, at https://account.frogster-america.com/

If you do not remember your password for the account system (Because it can be different from your in-game one), click the "Forgot your PW?" link in the top right.

You'll need to input your registered e-mail, and a new password will be sent to you.

If you do remember it, and successfully log in, click on the "Game Accounts" tab, and click the "Change PW" link next to your in-game login.

You can also change your forum password from this page.

I would also advise that you change your account system password, especially if it's the same as your account password, under the "Personal Data" heading, "Login Data" sub-heading.

For maximum security, you can also change the password on your e-mail account (varies by service provider) or change your registered e-mail.

If you no longer have access to your registered e-mail
, please submit a support ticket, as you will need assistance to change your password.
