As a member of the Eye of Wisdom, from the moment he came into contact with the Ancient Dreamland, Cypher developed an insatiable thirst for knowledge about realms/dimensions that had yet to be encountered by man.
Ignoring the advice of other magi, Cypher continued his research on the Ancient Dreamland. He firmly believed that the Ancient Dreamland was not as dangerous as people described. In a time when other magi thought that it was a place of nothingness, a place that caused a person to lose all inhibitions and control of himself, Cypher boldly hypothesized that the Dreamland was actually an emptiness composed of energy, and although he did not know the origin of this energy or how it was formed, but the great changes and endless potential it contained caused Cypher to be obsessed with it.
Once, Cypher caused a disaster in the course of experiments when he tried to draw the energy out of the Ancient Dreamland into the current world/dimension and accidentally pulled apart the division that separated the two dimensions, causing an unstable rupture. Just as the surge of energy from the split was about to overcome Cypher, who had been knocked unconscious, the Great Mage Ancalon and the other leaders arrived just in the nick of time to stabilize the fissure before it could swallow him up, saving his life.
Cypher remained unconscious for 3 days before finally awakening, upon which this young mage showed what he had obtained from this disaster at a meeting. It was a type of magical energy that had no elemental properties. In front of many other magi, he demonstrated his ability to control several fire elementals (or the power of several fire elements?), which he explained was all due to this power which he called “Dreamland Energy” (A type of specially modified rune energy). Even the ones who had always insisted that the Ancient Dreamland was an extremely dangerous place had to admit that this power exceeded the elements, and that the prospect of controlling such powerful energy was indeed attractive. They even called the disaster Cypher had had 3 days ago “a necessary experimental error”, and the idea of obtaining such power led them to request that he continue with his experiments on the Ancient Dreamland.
In the end, Cypher was allowed to continue with his experiments on the Dreamland, and the “Masters of the Dreamland” research association came into being. It was located in the underground research facilities of the Naro Abbey (now the Forsaken Abbey), which were specialized in forbidden and secret techniques. As he was the one who had done the most research on the Ancient Dreamlands, Cypher called himself the “Chosen One of the Dreamlands”, which meant that his ability to walk the Dreamlands was innate. Even though the other magi were skeptical or even disapproving of his research and what results it might yield, Cypher himself believed that he would one day prove that he was right.
But a few weeks later, a particular incident happened. The accident in the underground chambers of the Forsaken Abbey caused a large amount of Dreamland Energy to gush into the his dimension, turning the laboratory into what was essentially the doorway to a giant vacuum, and the extensive damage and subsequent fires eventually destroyed the entire underground installation. The Great Mage Ancalon and Cypher’s other supporters, who were also elite members, perished in the incident. The remaining members of the Eye of Wisdom started to reconsider the merits of what they called the “Dreamland Experiment”, fearing that the risks this experiment posed exceeded what they could handled, finally deciding to shut down the experiment for good.
Cypher flew into a rage when he was ordered to shut down his research when it was in its last stages and he could almost taste success, at being ordered to seal all information related to this experiment, angry at his powerlessness. In his fit of anger, the young priest betrayed his conscience and killed the Eye of Wisdom magi that were sent to check up on him, gathered up all his research materials and vanished into the Ancient Dreamland. When the other Eye of Wisdom magi rushed to the location, all they saw was a messy room with dead bodies lying on the floor and a giant opening leading into emptiness that was slowly causing the fabric of space in the room to collapse. They were unwilling to give chase due to the unknown risks it might entail, so they sealed up the place.
In the blink of an eye, 30 years went by. In this time, the Eye of Wisdom collaborated with Ailic’s Researchers, finally obtaining enough technology to safely enter the insubstantiate world. They have re-opened that place that was sealed 30 years ago, and the giant entrance to the great emptiness is still there, held open and stabilized by magic forces, but the hazy images beyond the doorway seem to be even more blurred…
