[Statement] Diamond Trade with Patch 5.0.3

The veterans amongst you who have been here since the very beginning will surely remember that fateful day when the book pages fell from Lord Ayvenas’ hands upon the ground, creating the world of Taborea. And if you can still recall that you’re sure to be able to think back to the beginnings of the Auction House. The Diamond trading that took place there allowed you to not only trade in Diamonds for Taborean gold, but also to use gold to buy the sought-after Diamonds that could be used to buy items in the Item Shop.

At the time, the internet played host to a wave of criminality including, for example, the use of stolen credit card information which, in the case of Runes of Magic, was used to supply illegally obtained Diamonds to players. Due to this issue and the increasing economic damage caused, it became necessary to disable Diamond trading in the Auction House for the time being and enter into consultation on what could be done.

Being an F2P we rely on the Item Shop for our revenue which means that any changes we made would have to comply with several regulations. Nevertheless, we wanted to grant you the opportunity again to stock up on your Diamonds through your efforts in-game. So we introduced the two NPCs, Agnes and Cedric, who on a daily basis would trade you gold for your Diamonds and vice versa.

Thanks to enormous improvements and new practices by our anti-fraud department, we can at last make Diamond trading in the Auction House available again today! Although, to ensure this reintroduced Auction House feature retains its value, we have decided to reduce the rates offered by the Diamond NPCs starting today, the 25^th of September 2012 with Patch 5.0.3 – Chrysalia’s Shadow.

Below are the new NPC trading rates:

Cedric:
Takes 80,000 Gold (previously 100,000)
Gives 3 Diamonds (previously 5)
Once a day per account (previously three times a day per account)

Agnes:
Takes 15 Diamonds (previously 25)
Gives 150,000 Gold (previously 175,000)

Both NPCs have also had the maximum number of daily exchanges reduced from 3,000 to 1,000 times a day.
Everybody in the Runes of Magic is very happy to see the return of this Auction House feature and this has been one of the greatest challenges to face Runes of Magic in Europe since it was launched.

Wooties! an Booooo! Diamonds back in the AH! Thankee, thankee, thankee! Booo ter the reduction o game dia. Drakkasdad, go back an reread. We only get 3 dia a day per account. Dunnoes why they felt the need ter reduce it so much, since we hast hardly been puttin a dent in Cedric's supply. Back ter buyin diamonds from players, me supposeres. Sad. But happy!

My interpretation is : was 5 dias 3X for 15 per day. I now read it as 3 dias 3X per day. What am I missing?

So if the NPC pays 10k per, chances are the AH prices on diamonds won't go much lower then that. But with the small amount of diamonds people can sell to NPC, I can see AH prices hitting 5k or 6k per diamond again which would rock. Farming KS for gold to buy diamonds will again be a viable option.

Hypothetically, what someone overprices their diamonds and has guildies buy them to sell to the NPC for them, to insure they get at least 10k per diamond. So they list 15 diamonds for 10k each (overpriced compared to a low market). So that creates a 9k auction fee which is under a 10% loss. So they'd lose 9k but insure they get at least 9k per diamond. People doing this may tap out Agnes 1000 per week cap pretty quickly.

Anyways, I guess we'll have to wait and see. Hope it works out.

That's nice in theory, but the reality is there will still be many many more diamond consumers than there are diamond sellers, so prices will probably stay high. When you want to buy something that's on sale, the 3-diamonds-per day isn't going to cut it. You can't really compare the price of the diamond trickle to the price of diamonds purchased in large chunks.

I don't know about that. You could be right. But in the past there were always diamonds in the AH and the competition for buyers made the prices drop to under 5k per. It may take awhile but it could happen again, but maybe not.

I think it's funny how people on the EU side are moaning and saying reducing Cedric is going to kill the game. The game was thriving much more back when diamonds were on the AH than it ever was after Cedric was introduced. Hopefully this isn't too little too late, but the potential is there to return to a thriving economy now that diamonds have become much more liquid.

I HATE U RoM workers & the ppl who pay u ur 2 dang greedy 9 DIAS A DAY U BETTER CHANGE THAT QUICK OR LOWER EVERYTHING'S PRICES IN DIA SHOP greedy pigs wth i dont care about AH dias unless i can sell crappy junk for dia's. ur greedy and I KNEW UD DO THIS with the new patch and its not making me happy that i was right and there better be less ugly pic's for the loading screen also the cow's on reni better be gone every zone was laggy 2 some degree GIMME 15 a DAY to prove me wrong

BlackBlood you will be able to sell crappy junk for gold to buy diamonds off the AH. You'll be able to farm KS for 20 minutes and grab 10 diamonds off the AH anytime you want! And you'll be able to do that all day so you can get 50 to 100 diamonds a day if not more!!!!!
