New servers means new forums, a revamp for you and I!

Dear community,

Now that the merge is done, it means new servers and a chance to come together more as a community with people less spread out, but what about the forums?

The team and I have been discussing a way to bring our forum content to you better than what has been previously. We've finalized a plan of attack and will begin construction soon.

We're planning a reorganization of the forum layout to better manage and bring forth the content that is regularly posted. Note that this does not mean that topics will be removed or changed. All links previously posted will still function.

On Friday, November 20th, beginning at 8pm EST, the forums will be closed to all new replies and topics while construction commences.

A brief FAQ for you:

Q1) Closed?! But I won't be able to talk with the community!
We do have an IRC channel which is easily joined via web browser. Just click on IRC Chat on the top of the forums where you can get your community fix!

Q2) What if we need important information? Won't it be lost like previously?
No. The last forum revamp was a complete software change, which left a lot of links non-functional. In this case we're simply doing a reorganization, moving some forums around. Even if the title of the forum changes, all of the topics and links will still function the same as they all track back to the topic ID, which does not change even if the forum layout changes.

Q3) What if something comes up with the servers?
The GM's will still have rights to post on the forums while the reorganization is taking place, so you can still get important information via the forums from us in case something goes awry.

Q4) This sounds like a major undertaking. What time do you expect to be done?
I expect the entire thing will take no more than 6 hours. I should be finished by 2am Saturday EST.

Q5) Why is this happening?
Currently we have the following:
85 total forums that can be posted in
62 of those are subforums
23 regular forums
5 categories

with this revamp we're bringing that down to:
26 total forums
10 subforums
16 regular forums
4 categories

...while still keeping the same overall structure and forum availability. Revamping the guides section, revamping a Suggestions section and the community section will see a major overhaul as well. It will make it easier on you to find the information that you need or post the information you want to disseminate. It will also make it loads easier for us as mods to manage and moderate the forums to bring a more enjoyable experience for us all.

So, to recap (a TL;DR if you will):

A forum reorganization will be taking place.

On Friday, November 20th, beginning at 8pm EST, the forums will be closed to all new replies and topics while construction commences.

We'll be done in 6 hours.

Community,

Another question I received, which is a valid question:

Q6) What about the Spanish section of the forums?
At the present time we do not have anyone on our team that knows Spanish at a fluent enough level to take care of these forums, so they will remain as is for now. There are different discussions about what to do with them as they have been stagnant for over a year now. Stay tuned for more details regarding this.

Note: You can hide these forums from your view if you desire. Look on the main page of the forums for that section, marked "Runes of Magic - (US-ES)" and click the "-" next to that entire heading to remove it from your view.

Dear community,

And now, the forums are back!

We've demanded the forums go on a diet and they did just that.

Here is a list of the major changes, by category:

* News and Announcements
- We've skinnied down the Technical Information forum. We foresee for the future that patch notes will be posted along with maintenance announcements, so the Patch notes forums have all been combined into one.
- The Team News forum was not being used any more, so it was folded into the "News" forum. We'll try and be better about announcing new or retired team members in this forum.

* Support and Feedback
- This area has gotten overall a major overhaul. The Technical Support forum remains as is.
- The Questions and Answers forum that was found in Community mostly contained Gameplay questions and members providing support, so it was moved up into the "Support" section and renamed to "Gameplay Support".
- The Game Guides forum has moved from the Community Section to Support Section where it belongs. Additionally we have added a few subforums to better organize guides by subject. Feel free to update or contribute in this forum!
- The Suggestions forum has seen all the other suggestion type forums condense into it. A big change here is that you now must select a prefix when making a new topic. While there is an "Other/No Category" options, please resist placing all of your suggestions into this category Please also follow the guidelines about limiting one suggestion to one topic, with a well thought out argument about why you feel it should be implemented. If another category must be created here, please let us know and we can consider adding.
-- We've also added a "Forwarded" subforum here that topics will be moved into if and when they have been forwarded. Once moved here they will be locked to all new replies by members as at that point the suggestion is locked in to QA and Runewaker.
- The bug reports has seen a major overhaul in the way members may reply. To cut down on Bug reports being a suggestion or "you're wrong" discussion, no member may reply to a bug report topic that he or she did not create. Meaning that if you did not create the bug report, you will not be able to reply to it.

* Gameplay
- The entire Gameplay category has moved up one level to be on top of "Community"
- We've moved the "Discussions on Runes of Magic" from the "Community" area up to Gameplay. It has also been renamed "Gameplay Discussions". We've folded the "PvE Discussions" and "PvP Discussions" as subforums under the Gameplay Discussions forum.
- Multi Class Discussions no longer contains its subforums, they've all been removed. Instead, you can create a prefix with the class or class combination that you are discussing. Please utilize this feature to make searching and finding topics easier for all.
- The Crafting & Gathering forum is similar. All subforums have been removed. Please utilize the prefixes available to let people know what your topic is pertaining to.
- Interface and Addons forum has been largely unchanged

* Community
- We've folded the Servers section into the Community Section. Here you will find "Mithras" and "Erebos" server specific discussions.
- Meet the Team is still here
- Contests & Events is still here as it was
- Roleplay / Fan Creations forum has been condensed and its subforums removed. There is some prefixes here that you can use for your topic that are optional.
- Off Topic remains as is.

* Archives
- The archives section has been skinnied down a bunch by removing all the individual subforums and merging them together under the same sections that are listed above, News, Support, Gameplay and Community. The archives themselves do not show subforums as any other forum would but they are in fact there, simply click on that forum to see them at the top as you would any other subforum.

With this cleanup we were able to condense 92 individual forums down to 38. We hope you'll enjoy the much slimmer look as much as we will.
