that depends on what you want to do and your play style.for example i tend to play support classes in most games i play,so i started as a priest.as i leveled and i started to siege i discovered that i was very vulnerable to physical attacks.i wasnt doing much damage so i had to get help doing quests that required killing mobs.so now i am a priest/scout and i do ok damage(there are lots that do way more than me). i suggest reading up on the class combos and try each untill you find something you like
Zymologist wl/ch/m/p
Matronmalice p/s/m
Ceviche wl/ch

There are a few general questions you can ask yourself which will help show what class you may like:

Do you want to solo or play in a group?
If solo, you can pick anything, but probably not knight or priest primary as they don't typically deal enough damage.

If you want to play in a group, what do you like to do more:
Do you like to heal/help? Then Priest or Druid
Do you like to be able to take a beating/'tank'? Then knight or warden/warrior combo
Do you like to deal damage? Then rogue, warrior, scout, warden or mage

If you like to deal damage:
do you like to be close to your enemy? then rogue, warrior or warden
do you like to be far away? then scout or mage
do you like to attack multiple enemies at the same time? then mage
do you want help from a 'pet' to attack enemies? then warden

Last, what weapons do you think are cool/want to look at constantly?
if a weapon in both hands (and daggers): rogue
if a sword and shield: knight
if a staff: mage, druid or priest
if an axe: warrior or warden
if a bow or crossbow: scout
if two handed swords and axes: warrior or warden

If you just want to be told what to do:
rogue/scout combo (is very popular atm) for physical damage
mage/priest combo for magical damage and survival

Note: races have class restrictions. Both races can pick mage, scout, rogue, or warrior. Elves can choose warden or druid but NOT knight or priest. Humans can choose knight or priest but NOT warden or druid.

Hope this helps. Have fun!

^^--- what he said, plus:

If you like to play with pets and have pets that will attack enemy or take beating instead of your toon, then elf for race and warden for class.

In the case of warden, secondary can still declare your role, if scout - then you're DPS and if warrior - then you are tank. Druid can give more survivability, but will have lower DPS and not very good tanking ability.

Just play each one to about lvl 50 and see which jives with you best. They're all relatively straight-forward.

Super sad that the warden class got no love...

warden/warrior... they're just too much fun to contain in words :D

... a little difficult with the warden side at low levels, but the warrior picks up the slack, then when you get closer to endgame, the roles switch, and your warden makes you excited while the warrior slows down... so it's like playing 2 different primaries at different intervals through the leveling process... not to mention the aoe's are just OMG... it's gud... it's guuuuud...

lol, sorry, no disrespect intended to wardens. I don't have much experience with them so not on my radar. I've edited my earlier post.

Sorry my friend, we were talking about regular wardens, not OP one. :D

Mostly Wd/S is taken as DPS and Wd/W as tank, where Wd/D is not bad in DPS, but not as good as Wd/S and their Chiron.

@markzilla - np, not warden myself, but I do have warden alt and it is lots of fun to play. Great to gather mats as well, as pet can clear mobs while you gather. :)

I never played tank (even I have K class, but haven't used it since I got 3rd class) but from what people talked on forum, warrior is well capable to hold on aggro, according to my ex-guildie (jguy), even better if geared about the same then knight/anything.

My guild has 4 tanks that can do endgame content (for our server that means Grafu Hard Mode). 3 are Knights, one is a Warden/Warrior. They all perform beautifully. The wd/w tank actually has an easier time with aggro than most of the knights. That said, there are plusses and minuses to both kinds of tanks, and there's another class that tanks well also- warrior/knight.

To be a good tank, you not only need to be one of those three classes, you need to be skilled at gearing and especially playing whichever class you play. My guys don't care which class tank we take- they just don't want to die on trash pulls, or because the boss comes over and spanks them, and that is all skill. You can have all the aggro in the world, but if you don't hit the right skills at the right time, you'll lose the patrol or the boss. Being a tank means being the star, in a sense, and you hold the safety of the whole party on your shoulders a LOT. It's a high-pressure job.

Knights, Warden/Warriors and Warrior/Knights can all be great tanks- but it's the skill of the person sitting behind the keyboard that makes them great.
