professions

I am downloading the game as I write this and am excited to try this game.. I would like some advice about professions and what all of you enjoy. I played WOW for awhile and got the idea down the road of how to make gold, but not sure if this game is the same in this way. I don't want to end up poor like I did on my first toon lol. Any advice would be great.

While some professions do allow you to make some gold in this game, it won't exactly make you "rich".

The most money will come from selling gear and stats. The are minigames that allow you to earn Phirus Shells at level 50, which you can use to buy some decent gear with Crimson/Glorious stats. If you are able to get to an endgame level, selling the endgame gear/stats from those hard instances would make you one of the richest players in the game.

As someone earlier posted, getting endgame would require 2 of the following:
- Time
- Real money
- Endgame friends.

Kikosi 98/50/60 Wl/Ch/M

it's actually nice to know that getting rich is not so much an object in this game.. I was forever behind in WOW as far as making gold was concerned. Getting to endgame sounds a bit tough, but I just want to enjoy when I am playing. What kind of professions have you liked doing? Are there ones that go well with the class that you choose??

In ROM, profession term is rarely used. The term "crafting" matches what you are talking about.

There are several types of crafts.

1) Gathering crafts. Wood, Ore and Herbs allow you to process raw materials into forums usable for later stages.

2) Planting. Planting is another way to get materials. It is useful, since only other way to get materials in quantity is pet gathering. Hand gathering is very very grindy.

3) Consumables. Food and Alchemy let you make buffs. Very useful and good steady money maker. Not huge profits, since there are a lot of people doing those.

4) Gear. Blacksmithing, Carpentry, Tailoring and Armorcrafting. Gear is very much a specialist area. Crafted gear can be good, but usually secondary to instance drops. And for every wonderful piece of gear you make, there will be dozen of so-so or worthless items. Also, really profitable gear needs rare materials to make, obtainable in instance runs. So, do your homework before you invest money into leveling your gear crafts.

Overall, I would say Consumables are way to go. Steady stream of income is good. But, there is a problem, sorta. You can level 10 crafts to Level 20, 6 to level 40, 3 to Level 60 and one beyond. So, if you are planning on taking your crafts past L60, you will not be able to create materials for your crafts. Most people level alts to do their wood, ore, herb; and that is the type of thing you want to plan relatively early so you don't end up dead ending your crafting levels on toon that wont serve you long term.

Oh, and people who have more than 3 classes are clinically insane.

They really should take the collecting crafts out of the other ones. Make them seperate from teh actual crafting professions.
