The Cash Shop

Alright, so I've recently come from a game called Allods and the cash shop is pretty crazy in that game. It's basically pay to win. I was just wondering if anyone could honestly tell me if this game is just another pay to win free to play. In the game that I came from you couldn't even really farm for money in it, or take part in end game, unless you spent at least $90-350. Any help is much appreciated! This looks good, but I don't want to download it if I'll be wasting my time.

Are there any viable ways to make money in game though? I'm fine with dropping money, but I don't want to be forced. I enjoy farming for money and such. The game I was playing forced you, if you wanted to actually do anything other than sit in town.

You can farm. There are a number of ways to grind out gold. The main issue is that it is very... very grindy and nothing compares with end game drops. Of course this is always the case but we are talking 50-1. You are looking at significant time grinding on a limited number of spots. The roughest thing in RoM is the gap between the time when you are max level and capable of doing end game instances. Being max level is almost meaningless. This game is about gear modding, pure and simple. You will find that the level grind, while not insubstantial, is not as bad as Allods but the resources required for statting and modding gear makes the investment about the same.

The main issue (and there is no point in candy coating it... you can read this in half the posts in the forums) is that there is a large gulf between the developers and everyone else in RoM; the players, the publisher, everyone... Runewaker is a Taiwanese developer and they are literally and figuratively a world away. This means that you have to be very.... very... patient... for everything. Obviously, it is a great game... but it has its own "unique" challenges when it comes to production.

The most expensive items drop in the end game instances, you can always buy diamonds for gold which you can get from farming. The game is a trade off, you can invest a lot of time or a lot of real world money either way you can get everything and do anything in the game.

You farm gear & stats for equipment; gold, mems, shells & tokens for purchases. You have to buy diamonds either with RL cash, or from someone else who spent RL cash; diamonds are used to "improve" your farmed gear & stats. The "improvements" are substantial though and it's relatively impossible to be part of endgame content without all of the aforementioned ingredients. You can F2P up to max levels, but to participate in the truly "worth-while" stuff, you'll need to invest some money into the game.

Being a Taiwanese myself, the reason I believe that they designed the game this way is that we (Taiwanese and Chinese too) are a very patient bunch of people, and we will grind if the game designs it to, unlike the Westerners (I am using this collectively to describe all US and EU players).

The best analogy would be this and WoW, which was developed by an US Company. The game approaches when it comes to grinding is vastly different (It takes several days to level a profession from level 1 to max level, while on RoM it takes FAR longer). A sign of this patience is that the first player to ever get all Achievements in WoW went to a Taiwanese player, not western, and one of the reasons why Westerners gets world firsts in raids is probably they had beta servers to practice, while Taiwanese also had a language barrier on Betas.

The company probably didn't see changing the style of the game depending on the location would see as 'fair', but if the game was designed in such a way that it was WoW like when it comes to grind, I'd reckon they'd start losing customers over here in Taiwan (which is probably their largest playerbase) because the players 'got bored'.

I don't play on Taiwanese servers, because I read and type English more comfortably than Chinese. Cultural clash is a big reason for the 'void' I think.

Just pick the tutorial in the very beginning of the game or if u already missed that, just find any npc with exclamation mark above it's head and follow what it says.
