Ancient Treasure Key

Ok so my bf has been playing RoM for about 2 years now and neither of us can figure out what these Ancient Treasure Key's are for and hoping that someone here will be able to clue us in. I feel silly even asking and like I told him he needs to know what these things are for before he just goes buying things LMAO thanx
