Hacks, Bots, Spam, Scam

I played Ragnarok for almost 7 years until I found this game, so I'm here for at least a month. This last week I notice a lot of complains about hacked accounts, not to mention at least 2 bots spamming in every newbie town and things get worst, now they manage to spam in world channel. So here's the thing. I was considering in buy a few diamonds from site, but I think I'll wait. So here comes my question, is there anyone doing anythingo to inhibit this? Is there anything that protect user data like credit card to be released to public knowledge? Is it safe to play without beein scammed? Is there anything that incript data when you put your password to log in the game?

I hope someone with the right knowledge can answer these. Until them I will refrain my will to purchase some dias.

The best way to protect your forum and game accounts is to have different and strong, unique passwords for them. That's relatively common knowledge, and should be applied to any online account you establish. Make your passwords as complicated as you feel comfortable doing, write them down, and keep them in a safe place. Try to avoid using the same passwords for multiple accounts, game-related or not. Also, avoid using addons which allow auto-logins for your game account. They may seem to make logging on quickly a piece of cake, but they also can cause problems.

We do take actions against the gold sellers and their spamming minions. And remember that we also take actions against gold buyers.

Your credit card or PayPal information is secure. Our billing department has no access to it.

As for being scammed by unscrupulous players, that's a somewhat stickier issue. We--Frogster--can not and do not recommend "selling" diamonds--"gifting" Item Shop products--that you purchase with real-life money to other players for in-game gold or in-game items. But since it's allowed, it is up to you to ensure you aren't scammed.

Talk to your guildies. Talk to other players you trust. Ask them if they think the player who is buying diamonds is trustworthy. Shift-left-click on the player's name (name in brackets, that is) in the chat log to see their level, guild affiliation (if any), and their current location. Discuss the payment routine(s) with the player in detail--who pays what, how much, when, and so on.

Ultimately, the risk and responsibility ends up being with you. Try to resist dreams of getting rich quickly in-game by selling your diamonds, because that path has many pitfalls waiting to trap the unwary.

Might I suggest that you go to the "general chat" forum and look for the thread entitled "Account Hacked".
The thread may better assist you in making a decision whether or not you feel comfortable at this time; purchasing diamonds. The information provided to you already was helpful but was incomplete. I feel that you should be aware of what has been going on in the past three weeks. I also feel that among the information provided to you, should have included what I have just suggested.

Personally, I have continued to purchase diamonds when they are on sale.

*the thread and posts I was referring to has been moved, however there are a few threads with information regarding the current hacking incidents, have a look around the forum and I'm fairly certain you will run into several*

I'm aware how to prottect my account. I fix computers and I know what kind of stuff kids usually put on their computers to make things easier. I play safe and fair, but the aim of this thread is to know about the game protection methods. The real hacks will attempt to harvest info in your computer memory / hard drive, so when someone is typing his/her password is there anything protecting this action?
As for the bots. I think you should do something to avoid using lvl 1 char to spam, something like block same message more than twice. I already reported the same bot more times that I can remember, and even blocked it, but still receiving those spam messages.

Using the little keyboard that pops up on your screen can keep keyloggers from getting your passwords. But as far as that the game is fairly safe. My thoughts on those that got hacked are these:

1 They did not use secure passwords.
2 They made the mistake of using their forum login information as their game login information.
3 They used the same password or very similiar passowrds for both the main game login and the secondary password.
4 Some may have mistakenly given their login info to a scam E-Mail from someone pretending to be a Frogster employee:

FROGSTER WILL NEVER ASK FOR YOUR LOGIN INFORMATION EVER.

5 As Kalvan has said, some players may have unwittedly used addons that sent their info to the hackers.
6 And finaly some players were just unlucky and the hackers managed to get into their accounts.

Frogster has been taking this issue to heart and have been attempting to get everything straight. But truthfully in the end it all comes down to us the players. We all should take a step back and look at our login information. When looking at it we should ask this one simple question: How easy is it to guess our passwords and game account information?
Frogster should re-implement the wrong password lock again if they haven't already (having played RoM for a while I can safely say I have remembered my password even though it is 12 characters and numbers long). Doing this will stop the brute force attacks. They also should take a look at the security of the login server to make sure it hasn't been compromised.
Let us hope that Frogster can reslove this and catch the scumbags that did this to those players that have been hacked.

If you click on the Report as spam button it should put that person on your black list so that no more will show in your chat box. You may see the "word bubble" above their heads. They do it in say to get around the lvl block in Zone chat. There is a limit on how many responces you can make in a time period. Kind of a pain if you are trying to help someone in Zone chat but understandable.

As for buying diamonds, I would suggest getting the pre-paid cards that can be found in Targets, Wal-Mart, and I think it was 7-11. That way you are not placing credit info on any site and they are made availble right away instead of a lag time of seeing them show in game. :)

Always there is the, change your pw now and then and don't give out seconday pw...things as gamers we get use to doing.

Happy hunting.

Hey guys, I'm concerned because I'm in Brazil, there's no such thing like cards here. Is either credit card or paypal. Paypal doesn't accept my bank credentials, so I'm stuck with the card. Unless some kind of bill that I can pay in a bank and send a copy of receipt, it's that or that!

I am still in doubt does title of this topic refer to game or Frogster. In both case, completely correct...

Why does not paypall accept banks from Brazil? I had friends in Amiga community from Brazil who were buying stuff from eBay, and they never complained about payment methods.

But I am not sure what they were using for their online transactions.

Well it's not that paypal does not accept Brazillian banks. There are two kinds of accounts here, one of that isn't accepted, unfortunatelly that's my case. And yes, the topic is about Frogster and the game, there are concerns about security issues both in game and in billing. As an experienced Ragnarok player I know a lot of methods used from scammers to have players accounts' passwords and some methods used to hack servers. Since Sony attack last year, we have to be aware that security is an issue that we can let aside.

Ultimate Game Cards are available in Brazil, or so a recent email I received from them states. I went to their website and had a look: http://ultimategamecard.playspan.com/ugcstores/br

It seems that "E-PrePag" and "PayMentez" stores carry them, or should. Since I don't read or speak Portuguese, I can't make head nor tail from either of the websites. (http://www.e-prepag.com.br/eprepag/moeda…ouses_geral.php and https://secure.paymentez.com/ultimategamecard , respectively.)

If you happen to find UGCs in Brazil and wish to see if they will work with our payment system, I'd recommend buying a single card and giving it a try.

Best of luck.

First, how these UGC works, I'm up to give it a try. If I saw it right there's a store just a few blocks from my home. So I buy these and do exactly what?

They most likely like any other cards have associated code you get after you scratch surface that you will redeem trough redeem your code button on RoM web page and later in game with provided info from web page. (redeem id and password)

Just upating, these cards doesn't seem to be a very popular product in Brazil. I found on the site Kalvan posted, 5 stores in my city. All of them or doesn't exist anymore or gave up selling the cards.

They are doing nothing to stop the hacking and spamming. That new GM was on Reni a couple days ago while the spammers were in world and in Logar and they continued to spam until she left. It's been on going for months now so it's clear the spam and hacked accounts are not a priority or concern. I wish they could just show some honestly and stop with the lies. You're not doing anything and you know it. We lost over 30 people in the last month because of the world spam, even I am reluctant to keep leveling because one day I'll log on and find all my megaphones gone.
Sugar coat the poison, delete forum posts and ban those that complain is the Frogster policy.

meme10, this is wrong information.

My guess is you refer to me during the Catch the Wabbit Event.

First of all I am a CM, not a GM. I might have some GM powers but not the same as support does. I also am not part of the support team and thus do not have access to the tools and procedures needed to complete a in-game kick or ban in a way that it sticks.

Bottom line: You saw a CM, not a GM, during an event, not during contacting players on support matters.

Report players who you suggest to do wrong to support, contact support if you fear you got hacked and also please do not discuss moderation on forums, the forum rules are pretty self-explanatory: http://forum.us.runesofmagic.com/announcement.php?f=275&a=8 and as long as you stick to them we do not need to moderate.

We continue to investigate all incoming reports and assist every player to the best we can.

Murkalael, welcome to us :)

Kalvan already said correctly that your payment information is save with us. If you are not sure about which payment method to use, that are shown in the list, or want more information about the security of your personal data, you can contact our customer support for further assistance, they will try to answer your questions.

I saw Dio in the event it was rather funny to see all the players doing it. I jsut sat back and watched. But just as Dio said she is not a GM but there should be a way for her to get ahold of one real fast if she sees a spammer.
