new player questions

hi im new to the game i havent started playing yet in fact am still in middle of downloading and updating the game, my question is does the game require me to spend money in the cash/item shop in order to be decent once i get higher lvl or can i get gear and stuff in game without spending anything. im on a very strict budget. also i was wondering if any pve realms/servers had any guilds i could join which server would be good and what classes would be good now as far as pve survivability and dps and soloability.

First unless you are determined to hit the endgame content then you will not have to use the cash shop at all.
Each player will say their server is the best. So which one you choose is totaly up to you. As far as guilds go start out by getting into a small low level one and then let them help you out, that is the best way to do it.
About gear in theory you will never have to pay a dime for anything, if you are willing to wait for the gear to be stuck into the AH. Also there are on each server people that sell diamonds for gold. Diamonds are the currency used in the cash shop. The price for diamonds fluctuates between servers, and even between the diamond sellers. Normal going rate right now on Reni is 20000 to 35000 gold per diamond.
As far as the class that you decide to choose that will be determined by your playstyle. If you like to be a background helper then choose Priest, druid, or warden. If you want to attack but still stay at range choose Mage, or Scout. Close combat is taken up by choosing Knight, Warrior, or even the much hated Rogue.
Let your playstyle decide what class you decide upon.
Also you can choose a second class to play that can either compliment your main or hinder it. I will not go into the specifics on that due to the arguing that may ensue. Once you get to a certian level you will then be able to choose a third class, which I personaly find as redundant and useless.
Hopefully I have answered your questions to your satisifaction.

mkkk Nice to meet cha.

This game is "f2p" buttt.... it is really hard as a free to player to get stuff. It is possible to be great/decent but you need to invest a loot of time.

mmkk so PvE you say and you want to solo. First do you want an interesting PvE class or one that spams a skill?

Also what do you want from the PvP aspect of the game (all the time if you join a PvP server, or in Siege War)
I'm on Reni and I have a few guilds that you could probably get into (my guild is higher level and kind of are doing our own thing until we level up. I'm afk a lot too :( )

PvE= Player versus Environment
PvP= Player versus Player
F2P= Free to Play

Mega beat me -.- and his post is longer

35,000 isn't much in this game. Sometimes you have to pay a lot though total but it will get easier to get gold as you progress

Once you hit lvl 70 pretty much the only way to get money is if you farm instances for the gear to sell or do dailies nonstop. But you are right 35ooo gold can be easy to get if you dont waste any, but that was for one diamond and most things in the CS cost 100 or more.

In a nut shell, yes eventually money will have to be spent to progress in this game. Whether it be your own or diamonds you are purchasing off another. Endgame is virtually impossible without the item shop, I don't care what anyway says. I personally know people who have spent literally $1,000's on this game and have not reached "end-game"

You need to keep in mind with this game, achieving high level or max level means nothing in the way of being a good/decent player. This game relies heavily on Gear & Skill. You can be max level, but without the gear you are almost useless.

What's good, is what you'll have fun playing. If you're that concerned I would search the forums and do some more research.

ok so whats the point of playing a so called FREE game if you are required to spend 1000 bucks to play if you want to reach end game i mean 15 bucks a month for regular mmorpgs compared to 1000 bucks idk it dont make sense to me.

And this is why i quit and many other top/known players quit. There was a thread awhile ago that broke down exactly how much you'd have to spend to get to end game. Of course it was based on the assumption that everything would be on sale, available and double diamonds. It was around $1,500. I really do like this game, it is by far the best "f2p" MMO on the market currently. However, if you want to play this game with the intentions of being great, deep pockets are a must, unless you wish to play every free moment you have for the next few years.

You don't HAVE to but it takes a HELL of a lot of time to get there. Players in this game have the ability to gift item shop items that are bought with diamonds. When someone sells dias they say their price and they gift the person the item that the person wanted. The person then pays the on-going diamond price multiplied by the number of diamonds. On Reni dias are 35k so for 10 dias I'd pay 350k gold (still not a lot compared to others).

It'd probably take around a year of playing almost every day for some 4-5 hours to reach endgame as f2p. The trip is fun though mind you, besides mem farming -.- you don't really learn your class mem farming to me

Wait on *redacted "That Other Game"*, buy the game and it's free to play for life. Look it up. Otherwise ROM is going to be the best choice at the moment. Not the cheapest but the best. Big difference.

All content in Runes Of Magic is open at no cost. That's about as Free to Play as you will ever find. We don't talk about or advertise other games here in the RoM forum, but a quick Google search will find the info you seek.

But, truly, if you give this game a chance, you may find it to be well worth your time. :)

I agree with Dell. Give RoM a chance and it will surprise you with just how fun it can be. Plus it does have several deep storylines to run through. I myself and waiting not only for Ch 5 to come out, but also GW 2. Atm I am bored as all get out though due to having hit lvl 70 and pretty much not a thing to do.

Im Completely F2P, never spent 1 dime on RoM. The availability of ppl that sell diamonds in trade for gold is high. Im sure the abundance is similar on some servers as it is on Palenque, each server just differs in price. Keep that in mind, i would make a character on at least 3 or more servers and quest up to 15-20 or so on one class and travel around Varanas looking at population and ask zone how much dias are.

Yeah Middle of June is when Ch5 comes out. But until then you can play other classes and learn the mechanics of the game which will give you some idea of what you are in for. Seeing as there are no racial benefits the only difference between the races is their looks. I know a couple other games that give Racial benefits but personaly I like RoM the way it is.
If and when you decide to make a character be sure to do every quest in the starting area for your begining class, after you get your second class what you can do is quest with you main only until you cna head to the next area, and then leave the current area you are in. Leave the lower area's quests for your second class to do, that way you cna keep both classes within a couple levels of each other. There are more than enough quests to get 2 classes to lvl 70 but 3 will be harder to do that with.
