Its you , not me (check your connection)

Hi all,
I brought this up recently in another thread, and I got an "agreed" as a response. So "im gonna ask about it in it's own thread. Why is it Froggy hasn't changed the server maintenance message? You know, the one that says " Check your connection or firewall settings". Let me tell you about the first time I received that message. First I dug into my PC to make sure my firewall settings were correct. Then I unplugged my router, checked all my cables, blah blah blah. After still getting nowhere and still getting that message I opened a help ticket with support. Then magically a day or two later it was fixed and i got no response as to why or how from support. Well, as most of you know, it had nothing to do with my PC. The game was down for server maintenance. Why on earth, would you not just create a message that states exactly that. Instead of making the new players think there is a problem with their own computer. Why did they make a message that has nothing to do with what is going on? And why havent they changed it? To something like, "Server is currently down for maintenance". Can someone please tell me ...

Thank =)
Have fun

Not sure why they don't stick something along the lines of "Servers are down for maintenence" like some MMORPG's do. Maybe they don't want to confuse anyone with a new message. It would be nice if they stuck it on the launcher or even had the start button blacked out during maintenence. Would stop a lot of the support tickets.

Only problem with that Kalvan is a lot of players don't look before they leap. Not wanting to make it seem like I am arguing with you or even going against what you say.
I do use a server status page myself which is a good idea though.

Maybe Frogster can stick a server status app on the main website or even in the launcher. That could alleviate this also.

That's something to think about. As example, in my timezone I do plant around 6PM, and go sleep 1AM everyday. And befor I go to work, around 8AM I usually log in to take care of plants. So the only time I can see forum or website for that matter, is in my lunch time at work. So you could add an addon or perhaps a function that links the game on a website info, if server is down for maint, a message should appear for this. You could even extend this functionality as for example, people could login on website and whisper someone ingame if he / she is online, and why not an online status check?
Botton line is, will be rare ocasions that internet of us will fail and we won't notice. And I can count on my fingers how many people I know that use firewall on their pcs.

Hey guys,
I like the launcher idea. So you would know before even trying to log in. And Kalvan, thanks for the response. The point of this isn't so much for regular players, but for newer players that don't know where to go to check the server status. I just know it confused me when I was new. And I'm sure it has confused several others too. So why not change it? So there is no confusion.

Thanks =)
