getting Guild Herald while not near castle crystal

How can you get Herald while nowhere near a castle crystal?

Tonight, the opponent got herald while on our outer castle wall, over one of our outer gates. He was not in his inner castle keep. He was not in our inner castle keep.

Maybe the person you saw and the person who got Herlad had similar things? Lag between messages can happen too

A couple minute lag? I do not think so. He was still able to attack.
