Recognizing Junk

Hi Folks,

My inventory and bank are a disaster zone. Before I download the renamed "altaholic" and start stuffing alts, I thought I'd ask the collective wisdom of this group of incredibly helpful people.

I'm a level 19/19 warden/scout. It's obvious that anything my classes can't use belongs in the nearest npc shop, as does anything that matches something I already have, but less so. But I find myself chronically keeping the armor that has +str or +dex instead of +sta, or more +mdef with less +pdef. And then there are the too-many types of weapons. (Which is better? faster and less damage or slower and more damage, etc etc.)

Is there a junk-o-holics anon chapter? Or better yet, some how-to with coherent cut-through-the-junk advice? Preferably one that takes account of classes, since I'm still unclear what the well dressed warden-scout emphasizes when picking their gear.

And talking of gear accumulation - does it make sense to keep a warden kit and a scout kit, or just avoid chain, axes, etc and dress myself in things both sides can use?

Thanks,

KatalanOrk

Depends - do you intend to play both sides as you level? Its all well and good wearing leather so your Scout can use the same gear - but it won't help you if you are level 72/50. Questing - even in areas where there are more than enough XP for more than one class - is easier when you only concentrate on one class. Above level 55 or so it nearly becomes impossible without the heavy use of daily reset tickets, or months and months of ordinary daily quests.

At your level, all is good. Using leather, with pattk/strength/stamina stats, you will be good to go to use on both classes. Scouts should go patttk/dex/sta but they are hardly gimped by using strength instead. Weapons-wise, up to level 32 (I think) everything is good. Just concentrate on the best bow and the best sword (though if you can pick up a better axe for your warden this poses no real issues either). After 32 your Warden will gain access to 2 hand weapons and from there on in you would have to differentiate mainhand weapons - there is nothing to balance the loss of DPS for a Warden with a 1h weapon (imo a statted talisman just isn't good enough compensation). For weapon choice, melee all that matters is DPS (damage/speed). For ranged, total damage also plays a part but DPS is still the most important factor. As an aside, magical damage has nothing to do with weapon speed.

It isn't much hassle picking up to different sets though either - you'll be using quest rewards and mob drops, there is no real need to invest anything into the gear at the moment except for a little gold on the AH, which you can recover or even increase by selling the items on when you are done.

As for Junk - sell everything you aren't using. If it is too high level you can hang onto it until it is wearable if you think you miight want it, but otherwise there is little point keeping anything lying around. You can use addons such as Statrating or statcompare (iirc) to accurately give you a breakdown of gear against gear (so you don't have to maunually calculate if more sta and str means higher pattk and def, for example).

Basically get rid of it all. Now, before you start drowning in metal ^^

Here is how I attempt to keep my bags and bank in check: I only get items that I will use from quests, and if there is no quest reward I can use I will choose the most expensive to sell for gold. All white items I sell no matter what kind of stats they have on them. I will check out green items only if they can be used as a replacement for someething I am currently wearing, otherwise they get sold. Blues I keep if I cna use them later as a good upgrade, but again if I cannot use them they get sold. The best way to deal with the pesky use once quest items is to stuff them in the last tab of your bank and forget them (I purchase the last tab for only a few days when I ahve several items that need stuck there).
Keeping our bags clean is a neverending process of frustration that we all go through.
