Mage damage

Why does fireball report higher damage in skill than plasma arrow, but actually does less damage for same lvl fireball and plasma arrow, and same lvl fire and wind knowledge. This also applies to purgatory fire and plasma arrow with same damage report in skill, but plasma doing twice the damage.

Skills get a cast multiplier. When the skill is an instant cast, its damage is multiplied by 1.
If the skill has a cast time, its damage is multiplied by cast time.

So when multiplied by cast time, casted skills do more damage than instant casts.

So if Fireball does 1000 damage, and Flame does 800 damage.
The fireball's 1000 damage stays as 1000, while the Flame's damage will increase by 3 times (since it has 3 second cast time), and come out as 2400 damage.

The cast time multiplier is not affected by casting pots/buffs. Flame will always have a cast multiplier of 3, even if you get it down to .5 second cast time.

That's because plasma arrow has a casting time.

Spells with a casting time will hit harder than what it says because every second is a multiplier. Flame for example hits harder than fireball because it has a 3-second cast time; therefore its damage is multiplied by 3.

Try using your electric bolt (1 second cast) and see if it's doing more damage than it should be and go figure ;)

No it is not a nerf. You already have cast time spells to use that are effected by your masteries.

What the Elite does is turns an irrelevant skill into another instant skill, that has situational uses. Such as kiting, and other useful things that I can completely not think of at all. Try playing a Priest without an instant cast and then switch to P/M and see how useful Fireball is, even if it is not going to send you to the top of the DPS charts ^^
