newbie Q's: mana drinks? repair? global chat? lfg?

Hi everyone!

I'm brand new to the game and have a few questions after running around for a couple days.

I'm a mage (soon to be mage/priest, I have to see the mage trainer) and am out of mana frequently. I have lots of mini mana potions, but I've not been able to find any mana drinks for sale or to make- do mana drinks not exist in this game (I played WoW for years, so I guess that's what I'm used to).

Also, repair- how does one repair their gear? I've been to several merchants along with "Cid the Repairman" or whatever and do not see a button to repair gear- am I missing something?

Global chat is another thing- it doesn't seem I can post in it- it gives me an error message when I do (though I don't remember the specific error message now). Is it because I'm too low level (level 10)? The only chat I can do is /say- is that seen very far or is it just in the immediate vicinity of my toon?

Finally, for dungeons, which I've yet to go on, is there a way to find groups other than spamming chat? I play with my husband much of the time, and he has a tank (a knight that he's planning to do knight/scout so he can range pull in dungeons- he's used to a Death Knight in WoW) so it should be easy to get runs. I saw there is a lfg tool of some sort to the right of the character bar, but I've not seen anyone in it- I'm on Reni.

Thanks so much! It's both fun and frustrating to have a new game and try to figure so much out in the beginning. :)

Mana pots do indeed exist! You can find them at any npc marked "General Merchant". There are different levels and costs associated with when you can drink each pot, and with what pot you buy.

Visit any merchant, click on "I want to see what you have for sale", then click the little anvil at the bottom of the shop screen.

You need a special item for this called a megaphone. You can earn them for free within the game or buy them from the item shop.

Getting yourself into a guild is the best way to run an instance. There are quite a few on Reni that do the lower level dungeons.

No problem, the best way to learn is to ask.
In a world of black, white, and grey... I'd be bright friggin' purple. M/P on Reni.

I'll answer as best I can

1 - Mana pots can be purchased from NPC's. There a few in each zone,I don't know the exact location of each. They can also be made thru Alchemy.

2 - Most NPC's can repair your gear. On the bottom right of the screen that pops up after you talk to an NPC there will be an anvil, click on it to repair your gear. It does cost gold so make sure you have some.

3 - Global Chat, I believe you are referring to World Chat, Purple font color can only be used with megaphones. They can be purchased with Dias in the Item shop with real life money.

4 - LFG - Pretty much shouting lfg is it. If you're in a guild they will usually help as well. I've found Reni to be quite helpful with instances.
What if the Hokey Pokey really is what it's all about?

As well as global chat (/w), which requires a megaphone, there is zone chat (/z), which is free. There is a lower limit of level before you can use it; I don't remember what that limit is. A "zone" is basically whatever you can see in the map (M or m) at one time. What's beyond the borders of the map is the main zone.

Thanks so much everyone!

So food or drink that you consume outside of combat to restore HP or mana doesn't exist in this game? Just potions? If so I can't wait until my gear gives me a bigger mana pool or better mana regen!

No, no mana or HP food. There are foods made from crafting that will increase your max hp or mana by a certain percentage. Int will help your mana pool somewhat as well as your dmg. Wisdom will help mana pool and regen rate as well as magical defense.

If you use a Magic Fruit Pie, it will reduce your mana costs per casts. Also, a bit later on Mage/Priest picks up a skill called Energy Well that does the same thing. While it's not quite like restoring it, it works to help with reducing how much mana you consume per cast.

There's an additional item set skill for your class that drops out of a later instance called "Recover Magic" that will help you regen some mana when used. As I recall, there is a charm quest in Logar that provides a charm where if your mana drops below 50%, it will be restored to full 5 times. If you start stacking some small green wisdom stats onto your gear from fusion stones (you'd just be dirty statting a piece with random fusion stones, please see guides on the Arcane Transmuter for how to do this), you can give yourself a larger mana pool.

As for HP, the nice thing about Mage/Priest is their urgent heal skill. It recovers hp and has a 1 second cast time. Saves me a fortune on phirius potions. Running with a healer class like a druid or priest primary helps a bunch too.

Unlinke WoW, you can consume food, drinks, potions during combat as well. You don't need to be outside of combat - these food and items take effect instantly as soon as you use them.

Thanks!! I'll have to go back and see if I can find that quest since that charm sounds nice! I'll look into the fruit pie too- thanks again!

That's good to know- thanks!

It's going to take some getting used to not drinking between pulls. I wonder, is it really difficult for healers? I was thinking of making a priest since I used to love healing, but at least in WoW my healers often had to drink a bit to regain mana all the time before pulls in the early levels- is mana regen different on healers? With a mage it's annoying to be out of mana in a fight but it's kind of more dire for a healer to have mana since (at least in an instance) when the healer's out of mana everyone dies lol.

As a healer its a bit different as Wisdom, which grant healing bonus, also gives a LOT of flat mana and mana regen. There are times before you're in fully statted gear that you may have some issues, but unless it's a really long fight, or you spam the wrong skills, it's pretty easy to manage mana.

Mage/Priest here, not even end-level (level 52 currently). On my mage, I have no need to use health potions, as my heals work just fine. I do, however, eat mana pots at times, depending on the skills used. Not being fully geared, still using the same gear for mage as priest, which will change soon, there is a difference. I prefer running my priest. Not only do I hit almost as hard as my mage (except for not having an AOE), I also have not one, but TWO mana regen abilities. Those, coupled with my heals, including one group heal that uses NO mana, insure I rarely need a pot.

I will also suggest you either take up alchemy or make friends with one. They can make both health and mana pots that are on separate cooldowns from the ones you buy from vendors. So you can hit the time-released vendor pot, then hit the all-at-once crafted pot. Often that makes the difference between being OOM, being dead, or winning the fight.

Thanks! I'll have to look into alchemy more- I haven't done much with professions yet aside from gathering stuff. I'm a little unsure as to how to refine the gathered mats- I need to look up an alchemy guide. :)

Here's a list of the alchemy pots up to level 49 that you can make: http://www.theromwiki.com/Alchemy

And here's an alchemy guide for you: http://forum.us.runesofmagic.com/showthread.php?t=2863

Good luck starting alchemy! I started working on it, but I'm stuck at level 7 because I keep telling myself "I'll level alchemy right after I..." So yeah. :D
