guilld Q's, professions, instances and potions?

Sorry for this post being all over the place, I thought I'd put all my questions gathered over the past couple weeks into one post. I'd appreciate any wisdom from RoM veterans!

First, beyond the social aspect, are there significant benefits from being in a guild? Alternately, am I hurting my toon by not being in a guild? I've looked around the interwebs, and it seems the main things guilds have are buff towers (I didn't really know what that meant) and libraries where one could go to get less experience debt after dying- how would that work though? If you die would you have to go back to Varnas and port to your guild castle? It doesn't really seem worth it, though maybe I'm misunderstanding things.

Next, and I'm sure there are lots of opinions on this, but are professions really worth it? It seems like professions are costly to level (and this being my first character, I can't say I have tons of gold to spare) and that there isn't a huge market on the auction house for lower level items (I'm on Reni). I haven't looked into many professions beyond alchemy and cooking. I'm a mage/priest or vice versa. I thought tailoring might be beneficial too, though again, I don't know if it would be worth it to level. I have a housekeeper and am soon to hire another, so I'm thinking she can make me my food, and she can do potions and magic buffs that will be decent down the line, so with that are there significant benefits that make having maxxed professions important to have- especially towards endgame?

Also, does anyone run lower level instances? It kind of seems like not, at least on my server. I'm very fond of doing dungeons (I played WoW for years) but is that something that won't likely happen until later levels (I'm almost 20/20)? At what levels do people regularly starting doing instances? A side question- my priest I eventually want to be a healer, but currently she's specced for damage since there are no dungeons that people want to do and I need to kill things for quests. At what level is it reasonable for her to be respecced to healing talents? I think I have a thing to reset my talent points that has to be used by level 30, though I don't know if I can have her as a dedicated healer then if people aren't doing lots of dungeons at level 30. Any healer advice?

Finally, do higher level mana potions exist? In Varnas the sellers only seem to sell level 16+ mana pots. Is it because Varnas is in a low level land and once I move on to Aslan Valley or wherever are there higher level stuff from sellers or do they have to come from alchemy? Is Varnas not the main human city? Do higher level characters mostly stay in high level zones?

Thanks so much! Sorry for all the questions! I'd sincerely appreciate any wisdom or advice. :)

Guilds:

Most practical benefits are social, including information from people ahead of you on how the game works. Dont underestimate it. Quest knowledge and game knowledge are very important. You also get hand me down gear, maybe; you get guildie discounts, and you get help in completing tough quests.

Non social benefits are buffs from towers or stable (meh), some mats if you feel like wasting time (also meh), library (very very important) and SW rewards.

Professions... well, you need consumables if nothing else. Alchemy and Cooking are always good to level, unless you feel like buying your buffs. Gear crafting is for more dedicated players, but can be important as well. And, yes, Houskeeper food and Housekeeper potions are good to have, but good cook makes better food and good alchemist can do many things that housekeeeper does not.

Lower level instances are tough now. FA/NOM used to be run all the time. Now with Coo/Xaviera getting you to L51-L52 with no instances, it is hard to find a party for those.

Mana potions... the only ones worth using in long run is phirius pots. Percentage based, so as you level up and gear up and your HP/Mana grows, they remain useful. Fixed value pots are much less so.

Priest should be statted for damage, yes. You will heal eventually, but healing wont let you level. Leveling gear is mage-like, where you get as much damage as you can. Dont neglect the healing or buffing for your eventual role at end game, but dont put lots of TP there. I would say around the magic L55 as you start running instances (which is why you should be in guild if for nothing else), start looking at the support role and level heals/buffs.

Varanas is main human city, but Obsidian stronghold and Dalanis are important in latter game. But your potions come from mini-games, not from vendors.
-- Rustyx --- 92R / 92S / 92M on Reni (Guild KnightShift). Yes, running the new FOTM R/M, cause I am not elf enough to be WD/S.

Oh, and people who have more than 3 classes are clinically insane.

'wiffo has much of the information correct, though he's not really looking at the current picture for you, but at a longer-range image.

Guilds can be both important and very helpful for new players. They do tend to be social, and the older, or higher-level members (whom I like to refer to as "cranky old end-gamers") have a lot of knowledge about the game itself, tips and tricks, and can also provide help in getting tougher quests completed. Just as 'wiffo said.

Being a "cranky old end-gamer" myself, or sort of, I think it's important for newer players to seek out a helpful guild. Watch the world chat on Reni, talk (whisper) to the person advertising his/her guild, and find out whether they would be able or willing to help and teach you about the game.

"SW" is Siege War, or Guild Siege. If you're not interested in PvP combat, don't worry about it for now. You might be interested in it a bit later in your career.

Professions...can be a lot of work and take up a lot of your time. I personally don't craft or gather, other than for the initial quests in the starting areas. Many have found crafting to be fun, useful (especially cooking and alchemy), and it can be profitable. It all depends on what *you* like to do in-game.

Lower-level instances such as Forsaken Abbey and Necropolis of Mirrors tend to be ignored, or aren't run as often as they once were. "Cranky old end-gamers" are easily bored, but you might find one or two higher-level guild mates willing to shepherd you through them. And there are benefits for them--an Honor Party gets them some XP and TP for helping out a lower-level player, and there are materials in both which can be gathered and are used in making musical instruments which provide short-term buffs. Yet another reason for finding and joining a good and helpful guild.

Healing and Mana potions are available from vendors in most or all of the zones in RoM. You're currently in Silverspring, where the potion level cap is 16. Aslan Valley--the next zone in level--has higher-level potions, and so on. Players who take the Alchemy craft can make healing and mana potions, among other types.

The Phirius potions, waters, and elixirs that 'wiffo mentioned are available in the Item Shop and can also be acquired through playing the various mini-games (two in Varanas Central Plaza, one in the town of Siverfall, and one in the Sascilia Steppes zone.) As 'wiffo said, they're quite beneficial.

I hope I gave you some helpful info and, of course, welcome to Runes of Magic!
