Ongoing server community issue (Govinda)

On Govinda server, we have a "world channel" that has been primarily used as a market, questions and answers, and for grouping. Recently there has been a lot of poor behavior from certain individuals using this channel. Now I realize, from the "outside looking in", this may seem petty and a frivolous issue, that can be handled by the server community, but in all fairness, this cannot be.

Some users take advantage of being the "channel manager" and decide to kick people for whatever reason they feel like, some people "Spam" this channel with a "join/leave" macro for prolonged periods of time. This is especially frustrating while in Seige War, players are not able to leave channels during this.

This channel was once very helpful for the entire server, now it has more of a demoralizing aspect if anything.

What would you say if I can provide a certain IP Address of one person in question?, Why can we not report someone as "spam" and have his/her account temporarily banned? Why is it that this type of behavior can go on, without any corrective action?

If this type of behavior can go on, without any course of action taken against it, what does that make the Community Managers or Game Managers look like?...Is doing nothing showing great customer service/satisfaction?

As with any rule violations, if you come across Spam, harassment, or insults in a user chat channel, please report this with a screenshot to our support. User chat channels are subject to the same rules and code of conduct as the regular ones.

The problem with the whole report it with a screenshot suggestion is it needs either fixed right away to stop the offense OR doing it (the spamming) will result in a perma ban. I dont see how sending in a ticket and waiting up to a week for a response is going to help

For starters any report needs to be reviewed and researched. Depending on the gravity of the violation, there can be a warning, a temp ban or a perm ban or an evaluation that no violation happened or was able to be confirmed.

We have procedures to follow not to make everyone's gametime more miserable due to rule violators, but to give the benefit of the doubt and to protect everyone's account playing, including mine and yours :)

Keep in mind, not everything you deem an insult might be intended as one. Seen out of the heat of the argument, some words mind sound different to a third person, and not considered an insult. Since I do not know the particular cases in question, this is all I can say to that matter. If rule violations are confirmed, sanctions are as well.

And even if you wait for a week for the response, you will not learn what will happen to the other player due to data protection laws just as well as he will never learn who reported him. All our support can do is thank you for your report, close the ticket and then conclude the investigation and take the steps needed. But please do not let that discourage you. We do not take lightly to rule violations that harm other players in words or actions, you just can and will not be told what steps were taken.

These steps can take place before you get your response or after your ticket gets closed or at a later point, if the investigation did not give enough evidence and we need more investigation time and/or reports.

While you may think this to be unfair as long as you are the reporter, once you WOULD be the reported one you would expect such carefulness to not be banned by the word of a player. I know it is rough sometimes, but please give our support staff the time needed to investigate.

Ahh I know your pain. X_X It used to be a GM would come into the channel and take care of the situation immediately, but I realize this is not part of Frogster's procedure any more.

If you're looking for a quick solution, the only one that I've seen work effectively is to have a group of *trusted* players (usually all players within the same guild), create a new world channel with a password. The password is usually something with characters that are ambiguous or difficult to identify. Those players would then invite everyone from the last channel to the new one, excluding the trouble makers. Then they have to ensure that the manager always passes the channel management to one of the *trusted* players before leaving (if possible). The players in the channel would have to respect that they should only invite players that won't cause any trouble. The new channel is not meant to replace the old one, it is simply a more secure, temporary channel that is used until the trouble makers can be dealt with (by Frogster).

I've seen that method work with channel spammers and those that use the join/leave macro. It's quite effective.

I think you are missing the point. What they are doing is majorly disruptive then, at that time. Whether something is eventually done and we know or hear what happened is of little issue. If they were dealt with when it happened, and i have seen it happen in local chat when there is a gm at an event, and they are allowed to continue. The logging on and off in a private channel is one thing, but world chat with such things as "Language example (removed)" and crap needs to be handled then when possible. And it was reported by several people and the next day and in days to follow it continues. So go ahead and investigate all you want. Its easier than actually handling the issue while protecting the rights of the person doing it.

Good luck with this thread. I started one very similar around the beginning of the year, that went to over 40 page that ended up being deleted, but the behavior was corrected.

I believe that *you* are missing the point.

Following Amberwave's lead (Hi, Ariés!), I've used the Support system and screenshots to report several people for language and abuse violations. Support has never told me what actions they've taken, but it seems that these players have disappeared from both World and "private" channels for a time. You're welcome to speculate what, if any, punishments may have been applied.

I mean, I understand that what's been happening on Govinda is disruptive and a PITA. The *only* thing that can be done is to report the activities and include relevant screenshots (or videos) as evidence. Allow Support to investigate and deal with it.
