Weapon Magic Damage?

What exactly does the stat "magic damage" refer to in regard to a weapon? I'm newbish and am confused about this stat. Does this refer to damage done if an elemental etc. (or any dmg) rune was added? Because when I hit in PvE, I the Dmg only appears to reflect what the PhysDmg would indicate (white#); with no separate number indicating dmg of any other sort. I understand how "MAtt" can be assisted, but I'm referring specifically of melee damage.

Damage that is deprived from the magic damage of your weapon. It is shown just under the physical damage it does.

Magic damage is calculated seperately from physical.

Magic damage is gone through with Magic attack
Where as Physical damage is gone through with physical attack.

Thats why all weapons have both magic damage and physical damage. Magic damage has no part in melee attacks or auto attacks. but in part with spells and attacks that inflict elemental or plain (none elemental ) magic damage.

Thanks ReagenL. But I'm still confused. For example, if a wand has a phys dam of 5 and a magical dam of 15, how does that 15 play a part in the various spells I cast? Is it added to the casted spell's base dps?

I dont know the exact formula. But its the most important part of any spell. it takes precedence over the base damage of the spell in the tooltip itself.

Its easiest to look at it the same way you would look at phyiscal damage and attack power. On difference is your skills use dps%, which is a modifier. Just recently in chapter 4 spells were getting a modifer to conpensate (x INT in spells. Some spells dont have it). So its all mostly balanced now but thats getting further than what needs to be.

Just remember damage takes precedence over all your skills. THen look at the attack stats, since that basically tells you how much of that damage hits pass the opposing defense.

Basicly, the more Magical Damage you have, the harder your spells will hit. I don't think it "adds" to the spell damage. But it affects the damage in ways that are incomprehensible to most of us lol.
