Skill Customization; Able to Reset?

Hey everyone, I have a noob question before I begin playing this game. I've found that a lot of FTP games, although are extensively fun to play, don't give players the ability to reset stats/skills/talents of their characters once selected without paying real money.

From what I have gathered via looking at the tutorials I see that the main customization of this game is Class Skills? Which seems to include elite and set skills. I was wondering though, once you select these skills, is it possible to reset/change them without a real-money fee? What about changing crafting skills?

I just hate playing games where I could change my mind about how I want my character and not being able to freely.

Thanks.

When leveling up you are given a bag, which you can get free items for every level, and then every 5 levels after 20. At level 30 you will receive a skill reset stone from this bag.

So your entirely free to try out different things.

You also have the option of buying an advanced version which is used more so for when you get higher level from the item shop.

Some things you can also get from the Token shop. Which is a currency used to get some of the simple things you'd normally buy in the item shop. You get these tokens for doing daily quests. You may also be able to get a reset stone from there too. (maybe, I dont recall exactly)

You get all of your skills for free(except item set skills, but we wont get into that). You then put talent points into the skills you want to level up. You get one talent point reset stone for free, after that you do have to buy them, but you can ALWAYS just grind out more tp and leave the other skills levelled up

Good point, yes, you can also get a reset stone from tokens. 3000 of them.

Entirely free to try out different things...once? I'm guessing this stone is a one-time use? Is the only way to receive this stone from this bag(once at level 30) and possibly using tokens? I don't mind having to work for being able to reset skills, via collecting tokens, just need to know if it is possible without paying real-money (after the first time, which seems to be level 30).

Anyone know about changing crafting skills?

And these tokens are aquired by doing daily quests? Sounds fair. You can buy the stone with 3000 tokens multiple times though?

Yes, they are from doing daily quests and you can buy as many stones as you want with tokens. But again, why are you so certain you'll need to reset your tp multiple times? Depending on your class, as long as you don't quest during a dbl quest xp time(we havent had one in forever) or use xp orbs to level up, you should be able to get your skills to where you need them with very few issues. And again, depending on your class, you may even have TP left over.

Talent points seem to be how to enhance your skills right? Well with anything, if you're given something to enhance your skills then there's always a good way to do it and a bad way. There's always the good skills that are a must have in order to be good, especially if you choose to do PvP. It's not that I'm certain I'll need to reset my TP many times so much as I don't know if I'm going to like my decision once I learn more about the game and my class. There's nothing worse than someone looking at my customized skills and telling me what I should have gotten, it will make me much more powerful, and not being able to make the change; being stuck with how I used the TPs unless I want to pay real money or start over.

One last thing I want to know. Can you change crafting skills easily?

The Skill reset stone can be purchased at any time provided you have the tokens. However, the amount of TP you gain per level is quite small at levels below 50 compared to what you will have at 50+. I'd recommend you stick with what you have until you hit somewhere like 55 and have a better feel for what skills you are using and then do the reset if you still feel it's necessary.

You can always buy more stones later, if you need them.

It's worth noting that you can only gain a maximum of 100 Phirius Tokens per day and so a reset stone will take you 30 days to save up for.
Also, if any patch carries extensive changes to your class skills, Frogster might decide to issue a free reset stone. (This happened just a couple of weeks ago for the Wardens.)

There are 6 crafting skils & 3 gathering skills in Runes of Magic, making for a total of 9 skills.
All 9 of these skills can be developed up to level 20.
At level 20, you will need to speak with an instructor in Varanas or Obsidian Stronghold to have the level limit raise to 40, but you can only raise 6 of them to 40.
At level 40, another conversation with instructors can allow you to raise 3 of these up to level 60.
Finally at level 60, only 1 skill can be taken to 61+.

At any stage, it is possible to drop a craft/gathering profession down a level or 2 to bring another one up in its' place but if you decide later to switch back you won't automatically get the same level you had before but will have to put the work in to raise the level again.

There's also a Planting skill but this isn't bound by the 9-6-3-1 limitation and can be raised past 60 without any impact on the 'proper' professions. Plus, you get a Free pet Floating Balloon Monster in the planting package at level 60. :)

Thank you Inferiority for the detailed description of the crafting stuff. That is pretty neat that though you're able to level all of them, only select ones can be leveled up to certain levels. And if ever I want to change which one I bring to highest level, although it takes work to re-level, it is possible so that's good.

30 days is a long time to get the stone, but, I'm not expecting hand-outs so that's ok.

I think I'm ready to try this game. :)

I've re-set my skills 4 times; twice for class balancing with a free stone from ROM, and twice with dias to completely change how I was playing my class. I think it's worth a quick pointing out that by the time you completed the dailies to get 3000 phirius tokens, you've probably got enough TP to level most of the skills you were rebalancing anyways. There are indeed times that a do-over is called for, but as the amount of TP you can recieve is never-ever capped, you could, in theory play with all your skills up to level 50 or so, and by the time you get to lvl 60 have a different build. Not quite as strong, but comparable maybe 5 levels lower.
The other biggie is statting- you change how you stat things, you change your build as well. and while it can take time to build new equipment, and we shouldn't play with our arcane transmuter until we understand it well enough to write the bloody guide, afterwards statting differently is as simple as putting on a new piece of equipment. Several guildies have different gear for the same class based on what they want to be doing at that time (e.g. healing best or hitting things). if you do change your statting ideas halfway through a character, using gold to buy dias can get pieces unbound, and then there are many many people happy to swap/trade/sell depending on your needs and theirs.

keep this in mind, many crafters have and utilize multiple alts for various crafting professions. our crafter has several that are busy all day refining mats, while he is gathering or doing final crafting on his main. i am not certain you can change wich craft becomes your master craft once it is maxed. or even before. may want to look into that further, but your basic char skills, attacks and whatnot, every few months they make tweaks, so while you are cruising along, got your tp all perfect, suddenly they turn a attack skill into a passive useless buff. just be aware of things like that to come. and like was stated earlier, you can grind grind grind for tp to max all your skills. good luck and welcome to the world of runes of magic.

30 days for a reset stone is a long time, so here's another piece of advice:

Only level up the skills you use.

For the first 10 levels or so, you'll find you have enough TP to keep all skills at maximum but after that, you'll find you need to be selective about where you put your TP. MOst of the forum sections have guides for their particular classes so you'll be able to get ideas there. Perhaps, you won't ever need to use the stone...
