So, I've been playing this game for a while, but the truth is, I don't feel I understand the game style or the shared terminology. Perhaps I need to be a World of Warcraft graduate?
Today's word needing explanations is "rotation", as in posts like
http://forum.us.runesofmagic.com/showthr…t=optimal+rogue
I get the general picture - use these skills, and go from one to another as skills enter and leave cooldown. But that's all I understand. The example post talks about "cooldown rotation" and "burn rotation" - I'm unclear what this implies. (And while we're at it, what is "burn phase"?)
Then there's a perhaps silly question - my humble attempts to handle this game have me putting the skills I use most _during_ combat on the lowest action bar, the one where I can activate them by typing numbers. I then typically wind up typing something rather like 1 2 3 4 5 1 2 ... with pauses for global cooldown. A few higher numbers are reserved for situational items, like healing potions or spells. And I generally have a mouse hovering over whatever skill I have that interrupts nasty spells cast on me - not wanting to cast it accidentally by running my number sequence too high. (As it is, I often use potions by accident.) I've taken most/all buffs off the keyboard-usable action bar - because accidental selection means they tend to wind up in cooldown when I need them most. And there are hordes of skills I never use, because there are only 2 rows of actions in the two bars, and using things direct from the skills menu is totally impractical.
How do experienced people deal with this? I really need to look over someone's shoulder while they play, but unfortunately the RL people I know who play this kind of game mostly live 1000s of miles away from me.
