The choice is yours Kobnach. How do you want to play?

Everything people are telling you is correct. The amount of TP you will be "missing" is quite small. You may not even miss it as you level. What class are you? Some classes are more TP dependent than others, but it's unlikely that you'll need to do any heavy gearing to be able to complete quests between 30-55.

I'm Wd/S/R - 36/33/33 as of this instant. I'm already unhappy about TP on the Wd side - can't afford to keep all the skills I care about at level -5, and I haven't invested anything in my pets' skills, since the guides say not to bother. Maybe I care about too many skills, but part of exploring a game is trying everything.

The other thing is that most of the xp/tp you get will come from quests instead of grinding mobs. If you like grinding mobs better, then yes you will gain a lot more xp/tp from killing high level mobs, so in that case you should also try to level up. Recently, I was using my lvl. 70 class to kill lvl 64 mobs and was gaining around 300 xp per mob, just to give you some numbers.

300 XP per mob - proportionately, that's probably even worse than the 10 xp per mob I've been known to get when cleaning up a bypassed quest. (Or 0 XP< I think if the mob is > 10 levels below me, or if I'm partied with someone >10 levels above the mob.) I get 300+ per mob at level 35 or so, at least if the mob is level 38ish. (I can't give exact numbers right now, since I've now hit 36 and haven't found any level 40ish mobs to play with ;-) Also, I think the bonus is already in effect.)

This is an example of where I don't want to be - what do you get when killing level 74 mobs (if there are any)?

I know I've leveled on pure combat XP on occasion, without turning in any quests, and while it wasn't as fast as using quests as well, it wasn't all that slow. But they were "big" mobs, the kind that could kill me if I slipped up, or got mobbed.

Thank you, everyone. You've given me a lot of food for thought. At the moment I'm itching to just race for 55 on my primary - during the bonus period - not sure whether I will though. I'll decide when I get home from work whether I'll be playing my primary or my secondary side.

You also can consider the new skills you get for getting both your primary and secondary levels to 35-40-45-50. At 45 I got this nifty icewind blade attack thing for my P/M that is a great addition to my attack arsenal. I use this to one-shot mobs for doing my lower level questing, making them go by quickly. Not sure what the Warden skills are, but the higher level skills you learn (doing old bag quests to get them) are fun to use and add more variety to your attack styles. Getting just the primary up will mean not taking advantage of these new skills.

I'm a level 56 P/M. And I say kill mobs, don't turn in quests. I have house tp bonus, use skill pots, have a zodiac pet, and so on. When I level, I can level AT MOST 1-2 skills up one level. I find it nauseating how hard it is to do anything in this game, due to the TP shortfall.

Yes, many are saying you don't lose TP, but they are looking at actual numbers. Look at percentages, and you will find, if you want to keep a reasonable amount of TP, or as reasonable as this game lets you, you will not want the extra xp from the quests. Unless, of course, you have the money and are willing to spent it on tp charms.

You may get extra skills, and you may make more tp at higher levels, but you make more xp, too. the percentage stays constant. So you never 'make back' what you lost.

So, it appears we're about to have another 3 days where one gets extra experience points for turning in quests, but not TP. The last one we had, I did a lot of combat, and no quests at all .. and my guild laughed at me. I'm relatively low level (34), and I see a TP-crunch coming, even without any extra EP acquired without matching TP; and it is likely to be a long time before I hit the level cap, and start getting extra TP.

So, I'm looking for opinions. This weekend, should I:
- stay away from RoM
- play normally
- do nothing but combat (again)
- attempt to play 24*7, doing all the quests I can, to get as many levels as possible

Leveling with bonus xp is a good idea. It is possible to screw your TP in the process, but not if you're smart about it. All you have to do is COMPLETE EVERY QUEST YOU NORMALLY WOULD HAVE COMPLETED WITHOUT DOUBLE XP. Your level will be higher than normal; your TP will be normal.

Leveling on double XP actually helps your TP in the long run. The sooner you get to level cap, the sooner you can do level cap dailies, which give more TP than the lower level dailies you'll be doing if you don't level.

I was adamant I wasn't going to level during the double XP weekends beacause of this the ratio thing and a love of TP, whereas my partner levelled most of his classes during them. In about two hours of TP farming at level 70 in tosh baby bugs, his tp surpassed mine, and man I felt like a nub. TP can be farmed, XP is harder. Quest like a maniac, I really wish I had.

Well, the event is over, and I went from 36/33/33 to 36/45/45. I've also used up Coast of Opportunity, except for dailies (but not started Xaviera). Both secondary sides are really really short on TP as a result, and of course I do play them when training them, but it's not a problem at the moment, particularly with COO equipment.

Now back to the traditional route with my primary side, except I'll keep on doing my dailies in COO; those things are insane.
