Not at all. It seems there's an exploit that gold sellers use to spam who use this, that's why isn't used too often, but I'm not sure.

If you right-click your portrait and see that your 'looking for party' is turned on, you are very likely to get spammed by gold-sellers. If the recruitment board were more active, it is likely that the gold seller would also take the time to whisper people who list parties, or party requests. This is why players have abandoned both of these systems. I however don't give any effs about what the gold-sellers want, I just use the board to help organize parties. I wish more players felt like me and didn't give 2 squirts as well.

Creating a party with people you don't know is called a PUG. PUG stands for pick-up group. For a couple of reasons, many people don't like forming pugs. One of these reasons is that people feel that they can't trust people in pugs, who might not know how to run an instance or try and loot everything and leave nothing for anybody else. Secondly, it is pretty easy to form a very good party with guildies, who you know and trust. Therefore, there's really no need to look for random people to form a party with. Thirdly, what people above said about gold spammers.

If you're struggling to find a party to run an instance or complete a quest, join a guild and I'm sure you will find people who will run instances or help you with a quest.

It would be cool if there was an addon people would use widely to be able to use this function without being abused

Thats some good information.
There has been a drastic reduction to the Gold Spammers and so that function should be usefull.
Many people neglect some of the not so obvious tweeks and toys.
Thanks for the reminder!
