Recent patch, graphics are glitched

Any ideas on how to fix this? I just did a full client re-install and the problem is still there. Running windows 7 pro, not sure what else I can do now. Thinking about just trying the slim client despite the graphical loss that will go with it. Anyone know if its less prone to these graphical issues on each patch release?

In my experience, graphics & texture issues can be avoided by disabling anti-virus software during patching.

Thanks for the quick reply. Tried a second reinstall, this time with every antivirus and firewall off. Same thing, chars and npcs appear sorta faded , like they are invisible. Starting to wonder if its my video card although I seem to have no issues in other games. I know alot about computer hardware in general, just hoping I wont have to do a full windows format and reinstall. Trying a third install now, going to attempt to edit the registry.

Do you know any values in there that I should search for? Going to just try typing Runes of Magic but anything specific might help. Get the feeling I wont find every file but I'm thinking only removing every trace of the game before a new install will stop this from happening. If anyone else has had this problem since patch, tell me how you fixed it please. Would appreciate so much. Probably will be at this for days before I find anything that works.

Please post a dxdiag so we can take a look at your hardware and driver setups. You can use the link in my sig below if you're not sure how to do a dxdiag.

Think that's all of it. Can't see any problems except for directshow. Do you know if the directshow filter affects runes of magic? I use alot of codecs and filters mostly from watching movies. I've just never had problems with any of the games that I have been playing before. I'll wait for your advice on the issue in any case. I do know my windows is in need of a format because of other issues I've been having that aren't related to this. Since last year, certain programs I've had uninstalled won't fully remove. Tried everything, even other programs that promise full erasing but to no avail. Still, that has never affected this game before. Just really want to put off reformatting until I buy another hard drive if I can.

Also, third reinstall failed. Checked all of my registry, couldn't find anything related to RoM. I might just try the slim client next if there seems to be no solution. The game is still playable but the graphics are so messed up that I just spend my time on the auction house now.

Though the dxdiag doesn't show it directly, you're using a Radeon HD5850 video card. (I have my ways.)

I'm going to presume that you have your in-game video settings at fairly reasonable levels--sliders at the halfway mark or greater. Otherwise, you wouldn't or shouldn't be seeing "faded" or muddy-looking graphics.

Directshow shouldn't interfere or affect RoM's graphics. Of course, I'd be careful about downloading add-in codecs, for the obvious reasons.

I can see a couple of possibilities, and a third one I don't much like.

1. A dodgy video driver package. Roll back your video driver to an earlier version, especially if you're using one listed as a "beta" driver.

2. You may still have some sort of texture corruption. Since you've fully reinstalled the game at least three times now, and at least twice with your a/v and/or your firewall disabled, any corruption you may be ending up with is either network or OS related. And I'd tend to vote for network issues.

3. Hardware (video card) going bad, but that's not very likely if you're not having display issues with other games.

Not very many answers, but I do hope I've provided a bit of help.

I finally got it fixed after 5 reinstalls and trying many versions of video card drivers. I'm also using the slim client now. Thanks again for all of the help. Its just weird because my driver never had any issues with other games or even Rom until now. But I guess the driver never liked this recent patch. Oh well, hopefully things will be good for awhile. I tend not to change my drivers often because I know you are right about using older drivers. They are usually better and more stable. In contrast, many newer releases are full of problems.

Yah, and when you change stuff like that, you are likely to break something else. Most PC issues fall under the category of incompatibility between 2 components (drivers/software/hardware), not so much outright bugs in one or the other. The most obvious example is trying to install multiple anti-virus programs on the same PC. Each program/device works fine on it's own, but when combined, not so well. Really the best anyone can do is keep trying things until 90% of your important stuff work, and then be happy with that.
