Server Question

Hi, there.

A friend of mine is looking to play with me, but she lives in the UK and I live in the US. Is she allowed to play on a US server, or is that against the TOS? Thanks in advance.

We have a few UK people around. Never heard of complaints.

Oh, and people who have more than 3 classes are clinically insane.

Same, lots of people play from UK, never heard of issues. I suspect it could become an issue at somepoint (depends on who owns the UK market and the US market in the future), but worrying about that would be like not crossing the street because you might get hit by a car... not worth losing sleep over.

There is nothing in the TOS or User Agreement even on the topic. There are many players on the US servers from around the world, just like there are players that live in the US that play on the european servers. It is allowed and I dare say encouraged.

As the others have said, it's perfectly acceptable for your UK friend to play on the US servers. All she'll have to do is make sure that her client's region and language settings are US and English (ENUS).

Make sure that you inform her of the server that you're playing on! :D

In addition to making sure the Client is set to ENUS and not ENEU, your friend must also registr on the US site, not the EU one.

I did the reverse for a while - played on an EU server to be with dutch and british friends. I had a couple of problems, which (plus my friends getting bored with RoM) is why I'm now on a US server.

1) Time zones -events tend to be scheduled based on local day time, and in particular siege wars.
2) Diamonds. I had to purchase with a credit card, NOT using the locally available cards, coupons, etc. But then because of fraud concerns (scammers using stolen credit cards) I wasn't allowed to gift items to others - including my own second account. I'd hoped to be able to make some gold selling diamonds, so I was somewhat unhappy. [Note that I don't believe the US market has the same restrictions]

Finally one more annoyance - the main website kindly redirects one to the "appropriate" local web site. Every time I wanted to check on current specials or similar, I wound up on the US web site, and had to click the British flag to get back to EU English. I tried saving a bookmark, but the redirect overrode it. I presume your British friend would have the same problem in reverse.

There used to be restrictions on what payment method allowed diamonds to be gifted, but those are long gone.

There are no 'redirects' within the website now - I can easily nevigate the US site and the EU site quite easily.
