New player with a few questions..

Hi guys. I am downloading the game client now, but i want to know a couple things before i jump in and get to playing.

1. Is grinding mobs a viable option for leveling? What about pvp? Instances? I don't care if it is not AS fast, I just want to know if it IS an option. My current game is nothing but daily quests and has this way of making me feel trapped. I hate it.

2. Is it possible to get good (not the best, just good) at pvp without CS?

In a lot of games people complain about CSer's running the pvp show. A lot of these games also give the option to work extra hard and you can be on their level if you have the patience. I am one of those people. Is it possible for me to get the things I need to be moderately successful in pvp with hard work and dedication instead of paying my way to the top?

3. Are there enough low and mid level players in this game? Do people like to do the lower lvl dungeons?

Again, the game I am playing fails hard in this aspect. Absolutely NO ONE does lower and mid lvl dungeons and it is only 1 year old! I even tried to set up a group old-school style through the world channel then meet up at the instance, and was told i was a stupid n00b for even wanting to do those dungeons. I just like to experience everything that is offered to me, and see no point in rushing through the game solo just to get to end game. I like to group most of the time if i can.

4. Are pvp servers really dead?

I like open world, but not when it is on an empty server or a server where no one is out in the open world because of instant travel and such. This isn't a game breaker for me since there are other pvp options.

5. Are there areas of the game where people just hang out and socialize? If so where?

I love a strong community. I love it even more when people are perfectly content sitting with the limits of a town and just chatting, dueling, or whatever. Again, not a game breaker. I'm just curious.

6. Is there any point in crafting?

So many games have an awesome crafting system that produces utterly pointless items. Are the items crafted in this game actually useful? Is it a good way to make in game money?

7. Is the world expansive and open feeling, or more linear and closed in by too many mountains/other "natural" barriers. Can I climb on top of mountains? Are there fun areas to explore and are there any rewards to doing so? I like to travel in games instead of using fast travel options, and even more so when I am rewarded for it. Rift is a great example for this. You can climb very high into most of the mountains, and there are nice items (Blue/Orange gear) and artifacts to be found for doing so. Not many people even realized this.

8. Would it be a good time to start a guild, or is it a bad time for recruiting because of lack of players who are guildless.

In one game I played I ran a fairly successful pvp guild. It was the most fun I have ever had in my whole 11 years of playing mmo's. Is it a good idea to start a guild in this game or would I just be wasting my time? I usually like to recruit other people who have little knowledge of the game as well, so we can enjoy it together as if it were brand new.

These are just a few of the million questions I have. After 11 years in the MMO game, I'm pretty damn picky :p

1) how many questions in one numerical abbreviation is there in this `\_(o.O)_/`
but yes Grinding is a good way to lvl in this game, there's plenty of world creatures especially lvl 1-15 to grind off of pretty easily. I say lvl 1-15 cause after that your gonna want the gear that comes with the quests or your gonna start struggling and questing is a good source of gold.

Instances -Tons, there's an instance pretty much for every 5-10 lvls

PVP - Fun, in my opinion. Standard click/tab target button spam style PVP, much like WoW

2) Getting good at PVP can go one of 2 ways, *Burn PVP* (which 99% of the ppl do, dealing nearly the opponent's entire HP in one shot) or *Strat PVP* (Stuns, Roots, DoTs, AOE's) depending on your class.

3) Yes, ppl do lower lvl stuff almost always, the most popular instances would be the mid lvl stuff such as DoD,RT,Grafu

4) I created a character on Grimdal before, from starting point all the way up to Aslan Valley, i hardly sall anyone. I pretended that i was surrounded by rogues being stalked the whole time.. but that was just my immagination. Yeah they're dead, plus their Auction House is filled with air from what i sall

5) Yes, Varanas.. Dalanis.. Silverfall.. the lvl 72 zones.. and varius other places of course, those are the mains

6) crafting sounded like a good idea to me back in the day, so i gradually lvl'd it, but i will warn you, some crafts like alchemy has a better pay-out rate than something like Tailoring. You sell more pots than you would any armor/cloth material. Crafting is definately something you do over time cause it gets expensive later on

7) in a way yes it feels expansive but there are barriers within the zones, their are high mountain like places you can definately climb and jump at your leisure if you feel like but the ones on the borders of the map are un-travelable. but in general, road maps are laid out, linear to a point but thats for a reason, the road is pretty much a safe zone for quick travel for underlvl toons. you can still get roflstomped by a monster on the road but unlikely if your mounted/constantly walking. And no there isnt any treasures such as that

8) creating a guild costs tons of gold, but not impossible, i would suggest you joining one/some first to get to know how it works. Generally ppl like to join guilds with knowledgeable leaders that have been around a while

I most likely wont re-post to any reply cause im not on forums much, but its my pleasure to say welcome to Runes of Magic, hope you like it, hope you have fun. I was currently looking for a replacement mmo game to RoM but after 4 months of searching i can not find one as good as RoM.

Yes, and helps if you have xp runes, bonus pets, bonus potions etc, something that you'll accrue as you play.

Yes, especially since you can buy diamonds in the auction house with gold that you can grind at a decent rate once you learn how to do it.

3. Are there enough low and mid level players in this game? Do people like to do the lower lvl dungeons?

Depends on the server probably. Lots of mid level guilds on Palenque who run the mid level dungeons a lot.

4. Are pvp servers really dead?

Unfortunately, yes.

Not really, no. Not many who are in role play in RoM. But people do hang out in Varanas and chat in the world/trade channels.

6. Is there any point in crafting?

You can make some money with crafting consumables. Gear that is crafted is mid/end level. End gamers can get better gear.

It's not expansive and open. It's fairly flat and all mounts are land-based. Mounts that could fly would be awesome, but the main thing about this game I like is the gear customization.

If you're a good guild lead, always a good time to start a guild.

1. Yes. Between questing and grinding, you can level fairly quickly, but do do your dailies anyway. I just grinded my mage from 72 to 75 the day before yesterday, but that's not really feasible unless you're a mage at level 70+ -some classes grind easier than others, and some mobs let you grind really fast. But regardless, grinding is always doable.

Instances- well, you'll hear a lot of different opinions. Some people will laugh at you for wanting to not get carried through the low level dungeons, but other people will want to go. They are doable at level, if you can find the like-minded people.

2. Kind of. If by PvP, you mean arenas, yes. If by PvP, you mean Siege War (our nightly interserver guild v guild PvP event)- not really. You will need to consume some cash shop items to become competitive. Now, you can purchase our cash shop currency in our auction house for in game gold now, so with an infinite amount of gold grinding (and in RoM, gold doesn't drop off mobs, so you have to grind vendor trash) you can get cash shop items without spending actual cash. It takes a lot of time, so be prepared.

3. I think this game is mostly low levels and midgamers. Endgamers are a vanishing breed, sadly. Now, you can be level 75 (current cap) and still be a midgamer, since this is a gear modification game, and what instances you can run is predicated on how leet your gear is.

4. Yes. Stick a fork in them, they're done.

5. Yes, people hang out and socialize all the time, in a ton of zones, particularly Varanas.

6. Kind of. Crafting consumables (food and potions, Cooking and Alchemy respectively) can be semi-lucrative depending on the market. Check your servers Auction House to see what sells. Crafting gear and weapons requires a massive front-end investment for a little payoff at the high levels.

7. I think it feels very expansive. I have spent whole days just exploring and climbing mountain ranges, and have (GM's don't read this part pls ;)) found a lot of little "off the map" hidey holes. Runewaker (the Korean devs) seem to take perverse pleasure in designing beautiful nooks you need to be an acrobat to find.

8. I wouldn't. We have too many little failed guilds. Find a good one that wants to experience the whole game, and can help you do those low level instances.

If you don't mind, or even like, grinding- RoM may be ideal. It's a Korean grindfest. The dual class system and gear modification system will entrance you- it's amazingly customizable. Choose a higher-population server (Artemis, Reni), to maximize your chances of finding people to play with.

Heheheh. Beat me!

Odell says it's a good time to be a guild leader cause he doesn't have to be one lol!

Honestly, TranquilX, if you really want all that responsibility, and you have the kind of charismatic personality needed to attract newbies, and you're sure you really want it- go for it. You might be the exception that proves the rule.

I inherited guild lead in my guild, when we were teeny weeny (5 people) and pretty darned noob, and we're now one of the top five guilds in the US. So, I know for a fact it can be done. But it's not easy, and RoM has a lower population now. But, if you've been a guild leader before, you know all that.

Whatever you decide, good luck!

1a. Grinding mobs to gain levels is doable. It gets slower as your character reaches level 50. The jump from 50 to 51, 2 mil to 5.5 mil, is huge, and each level afterwards only is higher in experience required.

1b. What about pvp? There are a couple of options for pvp. There is Siege War, Guild War, individual duels, pvp servers, pk mode, battlefields, and loot rolls.

1c. There are quite a few instances. Most higher instances also have different difficulties.

1d? If you feel trapped by dailies, you will not like this game. Sometimes there are not enough quest to get to next level, but recent content has been better at giving more quest to gain levels with. At end game, there is only dailies, minigames, festival events, instance runs, and siege.

2. no, no, nonono, no, no...no, nonono, no...no. You can trade gold for dia, but that is still CS items. I play this game using the phirus shop(and other free methods) a lot, but still, at least half of my gear upgrading is from CS. Even though you may not pay cash for CS items, by trading gold for dias, you will have to use the CS items to be decent in pvp. Mostly from the "need" to plus and rune slot gear.

3a. kinda and kinda. Most are just alts.

3b. Kinda. Doing the actual stategy, noooooooooooo. Quite a few high level/endgamers are bored and will gladly blast through everything for low or mid level instances.

4. Idk

5a. yes

5b. Varanas is still a hub, which a starting character can still easily get to. There are other hubs as well, but Varanas is still a main one.

6. Kinda. The three gathering skills, alchemy, cooking, and planting are due to having key recipes every couple of levels that actually sell. All the other skills blow chucks due to not having anything that really sells until the max level. It isnt that the recipes are not nice, it is a lack of a market for them.

7. There is plenty of exploration and mountain climbing, but no special rewards. If you get stuck and tick off the GM's, you can get banned, explore at your own risk.

8. No, but that has not stopped the plethora of now abandoned guild from being formed anyways.

It all depends on gear and what kind of mob he plans to grind. On average on my 3rd class with little bit of mage gear and Exp rune in staff (30%), 2 1 hour pots (50%) and Little Goat of War pet out (2 hour buff, 20% TP/XP/Drop) I get about 12-18K per kill off 8 levels higher mobs. (I know, priest killa! :)) It took many 2 hour sessions to get it at 90% where my 3rd class is atm. (and costed me many XP/TP pots), but is doable, even at higher levels.
