Er, have you considered simply *playing* the character classes to see what they're like? It's not as if you have a shortage of character slots available (8 per game account), and it doesn't take all *that* long to level each of the two classes.

For this little mini-tutorial, I am going to presume that you've decided to start a Human, instead of starting an Elf. Dwarves cannot be Scouts, so if you've started one of those as a Rogue, stop here and consider choosing a completely different class.

Or start a new Human or Elf character. I'd recommend a Human, just for argument's sake.

Allow me to suggest that you start your character as a Rogue. Get it to level 10 (do the Tutorial and as many quests in Howling Mountains as necessary). (Pay attention to the notice that you can take on a second class when your Rogue hits level 10. All too many nubs don't bother to *read* that notification and simply click through it. And then, they show up here and ask how they can get their second class, which bugs the hell out of me for some reason.) Head north to Silverspring and the city of Varanas. Stop and talk to Snoop, which will "open" his transport point. You'll need this later.

Once you get to Varanas, stop at the friendly transporter lady on the left side of the bridge and go to the Class Hall. Find the Scout trainer, take the class, then, if you haven't actually been given a beginner's Scout equipment package, buy one from the Scout equipment NPC. It's cheap. (Open your character page--C command--and click on the button marked "2". If you already have gear shown as equipped on that page, you're good to go and don't need to buy from the equipment NPC.)

Head back to Logar (use the Snoop--transport to Logar costs 10 gold and is much faster than running all the way back down the road to Logar.) Find the House Angel (House Maid) there (she's close by the mail box and perhaps one of those bedamned gold spammers--they can be colorful but also very annoying), change your class setup to Scout/Rogue, and then open your character page (C) and take a look at all the equipment that you can now not use--presuming that you've equipped leather gear you've gotten from mob drops or quests that requires a level higher than 1, that is.) With your character page open, find the button marked "2" and click it, then close the character page.

Make sure that you open your skills page (K) and drag your new Scout skills (general and Scout class-specific, if any) and your Rogue general skills to your action bar.

You can then do one of two things. You can head back to Pioneers Village and level your newly-minted Scout by killing mobs that are close to your level. Or, you can open your skills page again, click the leftmost tab ("General"), and look for the skill marked "Transport: Reifort". If you left-click on that skill, you will be transported to Reifort Camp in Sascilia Steppes, where you will find a bunch of level 1 and up quests to do.

No, the difference is more than elite skills.

Each toon gets several skill types:

1) General skills
2) Class specific skills
3) Elite skills (specific to both primary and secondary class)
4) Item Set Skills (later in the game, when you collect a specific set of items from instance drops, you can get a skill from it).

You only have (1) from your secondary class. From your primary class, you get (1), (2), (3), (4). So, that determines much of what you can do in the game.

As for two combos, R/S is far more capable than S/R. Scouts were nerfed in Ch4, and their capability is severely diminished. R/S gets you quite a bit more, with Combat Master being one of the more OP skills.

For full details on your classes, check Classes section in RomWiki (http://www.theromwiki.com/Runes_of_Magic_Wiki)
-- Rustyx --- 92R / 92S / 92M on Reni (Guild KnightShift). Yes, running the new FOTM R/M, cause I am not elf enough to be WD/S.

Oh, and people who have more than 3 classes are clinically insane.

Your primary class is the one that you will work on first and put the most talent points in.
Are you looking to be more of a ranged attacker or melee attacker?

I have Rogue/Scout who uses the bow to draw mobs (aggro them), and finally end them with daggers.
My mains are still my daggers and not my bow.

Once you get your secondary class, you can transpose the classes.
However, your chosen secondary class cannot exceed your primary class.
So choose the class you most like as your primary.
Rogue - melee
Scout - ranged
Artemis: IGGWILV: M/P/S: M/P + P/S, LORDUTHOR: W/K/R: W/K + W/R, FENGYIKHAN: Wl/M/R: Wl/M + R/Wl
Reni: MALCANTENT: R/S/K

Don't think of Primary, Secondary, Tertiary classes just yet... think about it this way:

You get a class to start with. Play it until you open up a second class. For you, it'll be either rogue or scout or even priest, it doesn't matter.

When you get your second class, THEN you concern yourself with what you'll be working on. The main class is your primary class. In the class combo box, that's the class that's on top. Whichever class you put in the bottom is your secondary class.

This game allows you to change up your primary, secondary & tertiary classes @ will. You just need to talk to a housemaid.

But when you do quests, kill things, etc... you will only gain/lose exp/tp on your currently selected top class. Your other class cannot exceed your main class level. So.. let's say you level rogue to 54 & scout is 20 because you've been playing r/s and decide to work on s/r... you would be 20/20 because even though rogue is 54, your main is now scout and rogue level cannot be higher than scout level UNTIL you change back over to rogue.

Biggest advice anyone can give you is to just play the game w/ either class. Get a feel for it & then determine how you want to proceed later. @ 20/20 or 25/25 you get the option to add a 3rd class to switch to making your single toon a 6-man combination. ie, if you added priest like I mentioned earlier, you could be: r/s, r/p, s/r, s/p, p/r, p/s @ any given moment by talking to a housemaid.

Now, the elite skills:

Whichever combo you are currently using can gain elite skills that show up in your specialty skills window. like mentioned earlier, the skill windows are: General skills that everyone can have, General skills for main class, General skills for other selected class, Specialty skills for main class & possibly pet skills ( if you have pets )
