Blew my free trap

I went to Miller Farm and did the quest to capture the Magic Cavy. Alas, the Cavy got hung up in a tree and my free trap expired. Is there any way to reset the experience (it's not a quest) and get the Pet Hunter to give me another free trap? I am level 5 and new, and cannot afford to buy a trap for 8k gold...

Press "L", select a quest and then click abandon quest. You can then get the quest again

Join a guild! :P

Thanks, but it's not a quest - you just talk to the Pet Hunter and then select the option that says "Cavy Hunting Practice" or some such, and that option is gone now. I guess I'm screwed.

And re the guild, I would love to join one, but I am still in babyland and have not heard any offers so far :)

Thanks !!

People occasionally make guild advertisements in world chat, but you should also ask in zone once you get to Silverspring, which I explained to you in another thread

kk lets do this, only post your questions in this thread because your questions are starting to be a getting a bit numerous xd :P

Ok, you've lost me with this statement. I have posted nothing *but* questions in this forum. It clearly says that it is for questions from new players. As far as them being "a bit numerous", the game dumps you into the world with very little help. I would think a new player asking a lot of questions in the appropriate place would be viewed as a *positive* thing, rather than a negative one. But rather than getting my drawers in a wad and going off with hurt feelings, I am going to say - in a most respective manner - that I intend to continue to post questions here as I need to, and will not hold it against you if you choose not to respond to them due to your view of their .... numerousity....numerousness? I thank you for the help you have given me so far, and wish you the best. :)

lol I have no problem with you asking questions :P

Just post them in THIS thread :P, as in the "Blew my free trap" thread. If I can't answer the question/other people who come to this thread then make another one :P

:/ You mis-understood me

Okies, I guess we just mis-communicated. :)

As for my original question about the lost trap, I guess I will just give up on that one, can't see any way to make the dude give me another freebie....:(

Thanks again for all your help !!

Regarding the Pet Hunting Training you should be able to retry it after dailies (etc) reset. You may have to exchange a golden egg iirc, if so you can get one by doing An Easy Lay (the hen quest) also in Millers ranch.

Been a while since I was in there so hopefully this is still the case...

[EDIT] Whilst the pet you get from this is hardly useful you do get a Breeding Slot Ticket for completing this which will come in handy.

I wouldn't worry about that either way. The pet you can get with that is not a very good main pet anyway. You won't need to worry about pets until at least level 70. And even then, you'll get much more benefit from the same amount of gold from statting gear and tiering weapons first.

unless they changed it recently you can't reset that quest, I blew that first cavy trapping quest on one of my alts a while back - cavy ran into tree trunk i think, & now that's my only alt with pet eggs that only has 2 breeding slots. I submitted a ticket to have them reset that quest for me, they said they couldn't & they wouldn't give me a breeding slot lolol...wasn't asking, but I would assume if they can't reset the quest for me, they would just send me the breeding slot ticket, but whatever =( Was too high lvl to want to delete char & start over =/ The only thing from that quest that would be important to you at a lvl 5 is the breeding slot ticket you receive from completing that quest coz the cavy you trap to get the egg from is just some low lvl white rune egg (yes it's white & the only time rune eggs in this game come out as white is this 1st cavy trapping quest, they are always orange or purple or blue rune eggs elsewhere in the gameworld, also it is the only time rune eggs is bounded too - so you can't sell it to make $ sadly lol... all the other cavy eggs are unbounded)... with that white rune egg you're just gonna end up feeding it your main pet egg whenever you obtain it. if i were you, i'll just run around cause havoc, attack everything, die a bunch of times, try to take on the crown bosses in howling mts LOL, then delete this character & start over since you say you're new? But...forum says you've been here since Feb 2009, wth like BETAtimes, you're so not new "new"...lol what r U doing on this sub-forum... O_o.... u got an acct longer than mine O_O - i started playing in Nov 2009 but didn't use forums until 2010... it is rare to see anyone with a join date of pre-2010 posting something like this lol... just checked the rest of this sub-forum.... maybe all threads from this OP can be merged into one thread? maybe that's what the other repliers were implying... O_o geez lol this thread is like a continuation of http://forum.us.runesofmagic.com/showthread.php?t=78960 ...what was wrong w/that thread that you didn't wanna continue on? lol

IIRC, you can't trade golden eggs for the three potions unless you complete the cavy training. Or at least, I couldn't on my dwarf a while back. So it needs to be done either way. Like others said, you can trade an egg to repeat the training.

Cavies will run in the opposite direction from you, always. If they jump up on a mountain, run out of range, and they'll eventually come back toward where they first spawned. The longer a cavy is out, the faster it moves, so you want to block it in as fast as possible. Put the trap somewhere near the cavy, which will then be running from you. Run to the other side of the cavy to cut it off and make it run back in the other direction. Using this method, you can keep cutting it off to change its direction and herd it into the trap. It's really easy once you get the hang of it, but it can be confusing at first.

when did they changed this? not in game to check this out, but are you implying that every time we trade an egg to repeat the cavy trapping training we will be given 1x breeding slot ticket? I have traded eggs before, don't remember seeing that option showing up except to obtain awakening potions for eggs... i thought it was only given the first time you successfully do the training, if you mess up that first quest, it won't give u a redo

Uh...no. I was referring to actually gaining access to the egg trading options. My dwarf could not choose the option to trade golden eggs until I'd done the cavy training first. Not every time, just once.

I just have to say, this is one of the biggest problems with RoM that isn't discussed on the forums. I remember when I started and being like "arcane what" and wondering how the heck to use a rune. You would think that would more basic information considering the game is called Runes of Magic. In my opinion, the fact that this game is difficult to learn drives more beginning players away than any other factor.

Anyways, to the point. My advice would be to just join a guild like someone had said. There are plenty of "noob" guilds who will happily accept you even if you are level 2. People in that guild will mentor you and will be relatively the same level as you so you can all quest together. It's actually better than being in a really high level guild where the players are all too advanced to remember what it was like back in the days when they were a noob and the only thing they knew was how to attack something. Being in a low level guild also allows you to get answers instantly in game instead of having to wait for someone on the forums to respond. Just my two cents.

The game tutorial teaches you the basics of movement and attack but there are several quests in Howling Mounatins, Elven Island and Yrvamdis Hollows which have portions of red text which offer instructions on how to use runes and other interface options.

Varanas has a quest that activates the Arcane Transmutor and the Transmutor itself has instructions on how to use it.
However, I will agree that these instructions are not the best and a trip to the website for the video tutorial is highly recommended.

Tell me about it. :) When I started in October, I had absolutely NO idea what I was doing. The forums (after reading pretty much the entire thing) helped a lot, but there was still a lot of head-scratching.

I think the primary reason for that is the game was designed and marketed to attract existing WoW players, not your "new to the genre" player. Someone like myself, who went straight from UO (15 years) to RoM (with a brief AC stint in there somewhere) is left pretty much to fend for themselves. :)

Fortunately there are a lot of helpful players both here on the forums and ingame that don't mind answering questions, and the best thing we can do as a community is to continue to pay that forward. :)

And, while it may not quite cover everything or answer every question, theromwiki.com (http://runesofmagic.gamepedia.com/Main_Page) is a very good source of information.

Yeah but the problem I had with the in-game tutorials was that I was such a low lvl. at the time that using the transmutor wasn't really relevant to me or using runes wasn't really relevant to me since I didn't have the diamonds to actually drill slots into my gear. I just think there's so much content in the game, what with the different class combos and how to gear, that it just becomes very overwhelming for someone who hasn't played a similar MMO before.

Yeah, agreed. It would just be better if new players didn't have to go searching for the information and instead had it taught to them in the game. I really like the training you get from the Pet Hunter when you first learn how to use a trap by actually doing the process. It's a lot easier to pick something up when you're actually doing it rather than just reading about it.

For example, when a player first obtains the arcane transmuter, maybe give them 9 tier 1 stones and have them use the transmuter to create 3 tier 2 stones and put it on a piece of gear. That would make it easier for them to see the effects of tiering. To give them incentive to actually try it, you could make that a quest and they would complete it by tiering a piece of gear to tier 2.
