There is no more slim or full client.

To get to manual update, click mirrors on the download page. You are looking at 8.5GB download.

If you don't like to use client update, then just download manual updates.

Check my signature for a link to the most recent 5.0.5 client that GameforgeLive downloads. This will let you download and install without using GameforgeLive.

What about the other question? If you have the old chapter 4 slim client, will it still patch/update to the current version? (Even if it takes a couple of days.. :D)

The patches for Chapter IV are still available. In fact, patches are available all the way back to at least Open Beta.

However, as others have noted or discovered, using an older client installer, even one that's only one Chapter removed from the current one, can or will have problems updating. Not to mention taking hours (or days, or even weeks :D ) to install all of the patches needed to bring such a client up to date.

There are 41 patches in toto just for Chapter IV, though perhaps not all of them would be needed, depending on the specific Chapter IV installer. And there are currently 30 Chapter V patches.

What many people do is to get the latest set of installation files (once they're available) whenever a new Chapter is released, copy their data files to a safe location, then perform a complete reinstallation. I did manage to get away with updating my second installation (beginning @ Chapter II) and continued that updating through Chapter IV. But by that time, the old, patched code was getting a bit creaky. When Chapter V was released, I downloaded the then-new 5.0.0. installation files and reinstalled the game.

I'd recommend taking Kroagnon's advice and use the link in his sig for the GFLive-free 5.0.5. client download files.

some people are saying Gameforge live takes up alot of PC.
If i just download from gameforge live and just set a shortcut will this work w/o the extra crap?

If you go into your main RoM game folder and find the file "Runes of Magic.exe", then drag it to the Windows Desktop and create a shortcut from it, that should work fine.

That's what the regular game installer uses to create its shortcut.

Look for "Runes of Magic.exe" and make a shortcut to it.

Edit:
<Whoooosh!> was the noise as Kalvan rushed in ahead of me... ;)

I'm trying to return to RoM after a long, long break and I'm getting tons of errors when I try to install via Gameforge OR Kroagnon's links. Interface.fdb, texture2.fdb, texture3.fdb etc. I've tried redownloading the files from Kroagnon's links more than a few times with the same results. I haven't retried d/l via Gameforge because it is insanely slow.

Make sure the download are properly downloaded - each of the *.bin files should be 1Gb except the final one & remember to disable your firewall & anti-virus for installation & patching.

Yeah, I've downloaded the files three (four if you count the 8 hours-to-download via gameforge version) separate times now, they are the exact same size everytime. Interestingly, the 1.bin is 452 kb smaller than the rest. AV and firewall disabled as well. Pretty peculiar.
