question about forum rules...

can someone please point me DIRECTLY to the forum rule that states "no petitions can be made" ? i cant seem to find it, maybe im just blind but i hate wearing glasses so :P, also isnt a poll kinda the same? not exactly the same of course but still similar?

anyways a link to the forum rule about petitions would be greatly appreciated, if its a broad link just let me know what rule # it is and ill go back and look again, thanks

Forum Rules

i do remember reading that petitions are against the forum rules.
polls on the other hand are not.
this rule i believe is from our other forums and it could be carried over to this one.

The previous Forum Rules forbade petitions, mainly because they did little more than generate "+1" messages, which add nothing themselves to the discussion and are a form of spam messages. Oh, and fairly often, they also generated hate and discontent, which we don't want, either.

Polls, however, are allowed under normal circumstances, provided that they themselves conform to the Forum Rules.

Previous rules is the important part. As its no longer a rule that means its no longer against the rules. I would like to request that the petition be reopened.

Edit.. and if it won't be reopened then I ask that the original poster of the petition turn it into a poll then. I would do it myself however it was not my idea and I won't steal the credit for yours. I look forward to voting in your petition or poll.

If you have something you want to ask that can be sent along up the food chain, send a PM to Mika. He's the Community Manager and that's part of his job. No need for a petition.

If you have a board-related question that a Mentor is not likely to be able to answer--and there are still things about the board and website that I can't answer or deal with--send a PM to Elayas. That's her job as the Board Administrator.

This was actually just discussed in the IRC chat channel that just opened. And while Mika said he wouldn't be changing the new rules, anyone encouraging users to '+1' a thread would be considered spam and no serious petition. Polls would be allowed depending on content.

I paraphrase and obviously you don't have to my word for it but just FYI.

nah thats cool, i have nothing important to discuss at all, i just wanted to vote on something thats why i also suggested the "petition maker" to turn it into a poll if he cant have a petition, just something to pass the time really

however on a side note... kalvan you should pass this idea up the food chain.... having the ability to +/-1 a post, similar to the facebook like button of course, it might get people to stop fighting as much on the forums, they can simply hit the +1 or -1 button on a post, dont allow people to see who gave the vote, just show a statistic similar to what is shown when a post is reported such as ... +1 = 55%, -1 = 45%, or show a +/- counter

We used to have Thread rating option on this forum.
Basically, you were able to rate a thread with points 1-5.

Unfortunatelly, it had to be deactivated. Not sure why exactly, but from what devs told me it caused forum to crash.
So, until they fix that addon or until Woltlab doesnt release some update or until we move to WBB4... it wont change. Sorry.

And petitions will not be allowed. I don't see any point in +1 replies except to push up post count.
Polls >> will be allowed, but not for everyone to open poll. I don't want forum to look like Facebook year ago when they first introduced polls.

Well thank you for explaing that mika. It makes it easier to understand why its not implemented. Hopefully there os an update at some point, I'm sure there are many interesting features that could be put into the forums once its all up to date when new forum software gets some new patches
