something is a bit screwy...

so yeah, after a couple years I decided it was time to come back and play RoM again... well, that was all well and good, had to wait about 2-3 days for all the new content to download with my crappy net.. anyways, I finally got it all done, and logged into the game but then.. well.. this is what it looked like:

obviously something is wrong here. Does anyone know a quick / easy way to fix for this?
(It's also effecting my daggers, mini-map, and selection fields too, shows all the boxes of "aggressive monster hitboxes" as well..)

I would strongly prefer to NOT reinstall the game again, as that would mean another week of downloading T_T

I most often see this error happening when anti-virus (or other security software) mistakes the patcher for a virus and blocks part of it.
You could try re-applying the last few patches (see the link in my signature) but I doubt that will fix it.
I think you will have to re-install.

Either way, when installing or patching RoM, please temporarily disable your security softwares. Just remember to re-enable them afterwards.

udate your video card drivers or maybe its just time to get a new card. I used to have that shat happen with my old card upgraded and haven't looked back.

Personally I was thinking this might've been the result of a memory leak or something where some of my images got overwritten during a defrag or something and was hoping it was a quick fix..
Didn't think the game actually updated textures for places like silverspring through the years =\

will I have to completely reinstall it from scratch or is there an easier way to do that?
12gb of data is gonna take forever to download T_T... think it might just be easier to accept the screwy landscape..

This looks very much like corruption of data/texture files, and that, unfortunately, sounds like a time for complete reinstall. As usual, complete deinstall is recommended before as well as cleaning up all relevant directories, to make sure that corruption is not carried forward. This is not the screenshot I expect to see with video driver issue, so I don't expect it to be fixed with driver update.

Bug Kalvan or post in tech support forum. He is ROM's resident tech guru, and he mostly dwells there.

Since the game stores related resources in archived databases, it's normal practice for it to expand such archives, apply patched files and then recompile the archive. If something interferes with that process, some textures might go missing (quarantine by a/v, perhaps) and so the game asks for Texture G (grass) but instead is returned texture M (money) which has been put in place of G in the recompiled file. Therefore, someone's grass can look like money.

i've had same exact problem for months now...not worth a reinstall, as it does not in any way impact gameplay...also, i've found it loads textures faster this way tbh, and reduces lag...
my r/p can outdps r/m. your name is stupid.

A complete re-install will fix that problem. And checking your video card drivers is always a good idea as well.

That particular issue happened to a lot of people when Ch5 was initially released In June 2012 and back then a reinstall was what fixed it.
WTB name change on my alt toon due to P/S IB nerf.

that may be but can it corrupt more data/screw with other stuff like visuals of monsters/effects?

I logged in again earlier today.. friggin world looks like dot hack GU


my minimap also had teeth... It doesn't seem to be a static set of images that are consistently being picked, so should I be worried?

had similar problem awhile back while doing a new patch,

could play like that, in fact my fps was alot higher with the mess up graphics, but unfortunately it was annoying in most cases, especially during sieges,

only way i solved it was a complete uninstall and reinstall.

good thing for me was that rom downloaded and installed in less then an hour :)

I played like that for MONTHS myself.. but a month ago when there was a new set of patches, every time I clicked on an NPC or myself, it caused a messed up texture/flashing gibberish where the "target" icon/texture was supposed to be.. Non the less.. a reinstall worked! :p
