New player need a bit of help

Hi all,

I started playing Runes of Magic yesterday I played for roughly 15 minutes before switching back to my main MMO (I haven't quit it yet). Though I did enjoy my time in Runes of Magic, I felt quite lost in the starting town not knowing what to do.

1) Each time I start up my game by double clicking the Runes of Magic icon on my desktop it always asks me to confirm/accept the User Agreement is this normal? (Screenshot below)



2) Each time I start up my game by double clicking the Runes of Magic icon on my desktop, my settings are always changed and I must fix/change them again upon entering the game. How can I fix this? I've tried changing them clicking apply and okay and restarting the game client but it still resets my settings.

  1. Yes, this is normal.
    RoM isn't the only game that does this. Others only get you to accept it once a week/month or only after a major update.
  2. Right-click your RoM shortcut and "Start as Administrator".
    If you change your settings via the launcher, they will be saved.
    The main problem here is the way in which Windows handles File Permissions in 7 and 8. XP doesn't seem to have the issue and I don't know about Vista.

In addition to what Yrcanos said

1) You can start game without launcher, but that is probably best set up once you decide if you are staying or not.

2) Starting area depends on race, and IMNSHO, humans have by far best area to help you not get lost in learning about the game. While they may or may not be the best choice in long run, I recommend a few human toons to get the hang of the game.

Oh, and people who have more than 3 classes are clinically insane.

Humans: always good for initiating things....not so good at finishing...see "World History".

It's normal too accept agreement, not always normal to redo settings all the time. That started shortly after they created the great (cough cough) great bit of technology called the 'launcher'. Go to the rom directory, should be program files/runes of magic, and edit the client config.ini file to match the settings you want. Also, create shortcut for clent.exe instead of the launcher.

Also, what server? I have a 20/20/21 alt, if on right server I would be willing run with you for a while. Starter zones have far too many echoes at present!
