Jguy, it is not arrogance. I think you mean ignorance.
Only thing that potion gives you is different set of skills. Well, and a different "skin", but that is cosmetic. Not that a lot of people don't value cosmetics, mind you.
When your pet has high loyalty and well fed, he will use those skills often enough to make a difference. Some of them are buffs, some direct attacks, some indirect attacks.
Take a look at Parrot skills. It is a popular mage transformation potion because it gives Matt boost or Int boost. Or Executioner puppet. Boost to attack speed or boost to all attributes. Both great.
Others are less so. Like snow ferret, will give bonus HP or cast a healing spell on you. Not good for DPS, and without aggro bonus, not good for tanks. And of course healers don't need healing to come from pets. So, meh potion.
And, yes, it is permanent.
