Another Returning Player Thread

Hello all I'm a 62/45 Mage/Druid on the US Reni server that is returning from a long long absence.

During the time I was playing, it was during the time when scouts were the strongest class in the game due to armor ignore or something like that. It was also around the time when mages sucked apparently. I never really went to instances unless they were necessary. I basically never did anything past HotO due to not being geared for it or not needing a quest in there.

Now, what I really want to ask is: How can an undergeared 62 mage sort of get himself... geared? My weapon is a tier 8 Fury of the Jungle +whatever makes it shiny, and I'm wearing an elemental flame set that is averagely statted at best. I'm not even able to solo HotO past the first boss. Because of this, I can't really make money due to the fact that I can't run instances, and I can't run instances since I don't have the gear for it, and I don't have the gear for it because I'm poor. As a result, I've never been able to do any of the quests in regions SJF and above. I'm missing a lot of XP due to this, and my druid is (obviously) underlevelled. I've decided that I should get my mage to some decently high level around 70 before I farm dailies to level my druid side. I'm currently up to the Redhill Mountains area quest-wise.

I know common solutions are gathering and refining mats (to green?) and selling them, doing dailies, and all the usual solutions for being low on money. However, is there something a bit more... practical I could do in order to get some money? Some instance I could run based on my stats?

If you suggest me to restart, I actually have considered it, but I kind of like this mage in particular, and I've spent quite a bit of money on the diamonds on her, and it would suck to see that go to waste.

tl;dr : How to make money for undergeared mage?

Nothing wrong with starting a new toon, as for the diamonds just use same account and same server. As to suggestions for money you mage is high enough to farm and sell guard dog meat in xavier. Also you can do solo runs of KS. Since you never did go pass HotO according to your statement i would hesitate to say farm ZS, DL, etc... for gold.

Good news though, the economy is now sky high. So you need even more gold now for the simplest of things.

Try doing runs of Kalin Shrine and sell the trash gear for money. If you struggle with that, then go to Pasper's Shrine for trash gear.

Depending on how much money you have now, you could start playing the AH market (buy low, sell higher).

Another solution is to join a guild and have your guildmates help with farming, stats, etc. Not sure about other guilds but I know the crazy people in my guild will give away stuff to help people get started.

If being in a guild is not for you, then do a world shout for assistance with runs, and i'm sure people with alts or mains will run it through for you farming. Heck, they may run you through higher level instances for xp/tp (aka powerleveling). However, that will probably cost you some money.

Pick up your third class, then go to weeping coast and pick up the third class equipment pack for your toon, it's not a great set, but will get you started.

Edit: after getting that set, follow the other suggestions, and make sure you run the mini games.

What Sekhemket said about guiid... join the guild. If you pick good one, there will be plenty of people helping you along, with runs, gear, sometimes hand me downs, sometimes stats for for you to put together. Then, once you can run mini-games, shell stats are decent source of income.

I do disagree that there are great many people who will do it if you are not a guildie. Non-guildie PUGs are pretty uncommon, and not a reliable way to get runs, stats or gear.

Oh, and people who have more than 3 classes are clinically insane.

So I've attempted Kalin Shrine, and I indeed can solo it. Was just a bit unprepared for the Goddess of Art's Disciple frenzy thing and the stun on Regin. Other than that, I can do it fine. The income isn't bad, but it certainly does leave something to be desired. Is TT also farmable for trash/drops?

For Sekhemket's suggestion, I've only got a measly 4 mil right now, so playing the AH isn't really an option.

Now, I'm aware that drops from even ZS/DL have gone down in price due to new content being added. However, if I'm able to get through it with a party, would that be a good place to farm drops to sell on the AH?

disciple's "frenzy" mode can be stopped by breaking the barrel while he is next to one...regin stuns can be dodged by jumping around, kiting. a bit tricky on a mage, but not too hard...

Is TT also farmable for trash/drops?
if you are having trouble with regin/disciple, i wouldn't try TT unless you have a very good "oh, crap" button, as alot of stuff in there can get you killed very fast, even for a well geared player. as far as gold/time goes, i think KS is prolly ur best bet...

Gold farming is obsolete, sorry. Too much gold floating around in the economy to realistically farm reasonable amounts at vendor prices.

also true. i would advise, as others upthread have as well, running minigames for shells, dailies for puries, then selling the mana stones from the shell pulls+puries.probably the best way to make money, as endgamers will pay ridiculous prices for stats they want...

For making gold ingame a good way to make some starter gold is farming things like the things that make instruments like in FA i used to sell those on my private toon, or you could take up a craft and sell things you make, then there is always farming gear and things from places like paspers shrine or Kalin shrine and vendoring the gear opening up all bag space's and that can probably get you 500k each time you fill the bag and for lvl 50's some gear in KS can be good to help you through questing then there is always farming dog meat in Xaviera and selling it the price on reni for it is very high...and then there is selling stats doing Goblin games and the other mini's and using a puri to sell the stat and if you need to use ur tokens to get the puri and for help with that changing ur password to log into your account each month a code for a daily reset ticket can be gotten not much but helps free to play people.

I wish you luck

Thanks for all your replies everyone.

I technically can do HotO, just not solo. According to most guides and the reqs they have up for instances, I do meet them as a mage. I just can't tank the first boss well enough to survive, even with my heals on my secondary.

Are there any specific minigames that you guys might suggest are the most efficient to run?

The problem isn't having the diamonds with me. Rather, it's that I've sold them for gold in the past to acquire what I couldn't get. Way back when, did most people actually make their money by doing these instance runs and selling the good drops? That was something I never really understood... but I digress.

since you can only do minigames once a day(that i know of/that is legal), i'd do them all daily. malatina's in varanas central, and gobs in aslan valley are the 3 most popular, but another mini is in sacillia steppes, which can be accessed via varanas central...

Another thing that some people do is to buy dias when they are on sale (100% or more), hold onto them until the sale ends and then put some up in AH.

If you need help in an instance just to farm, find me and i'll help out with what i can
