New to RoM, have some questions I would love to have answered.

Hey everyone, just recently I saw this game and thought it looked really cool. Watched a couple of Siege/PvP Videos and everyone looked really flash with their wings and their mounts, big fights going on, bridges getting defended, places getting captured, and just decided to give the game a testdrive. I heard from a couple of people that the game is "dead". I honestly have no idea whether it is or not, but it did worry me a bit. I really like the look of the game, but if it truly is dead, there's no point in playing it. So hopefully, someone can come and answer a few questions I had, just to assure me that I won't be wasting my time. So, let's get started, shall we?

1. Is the game truly dead?
2. If not, what server has the biggest population/most social people.
3. Is there any place I can find a decent leveling guide to help me along the long journey to Level 80?
4. What classes are the best (if played well) in PvP right now? (By no means am I asking what class is the most OP, just what class can potentially have the biggest damage if played correctly)
5. And lastly, is there anyone willing to give me a few tips to get headed in the right direction and get me started on the path to glory?

Thank you for reading, if you've made it this far, you're honorable. I know personally I would just skip right over this thread because it's quite long, but if you have actually read through and want to help me by responding, thank you so much! See you in-game, have fun and fight well!

1. No certainly not! :D

2. Artemis is the most populated, with Reni and Govinda both very close, any of these 3 I'd say would work for you. If you're set on a PvP server, they are both pretty dead, however I play over on indigo often if you'd like to check it out. :)

3. Each one of these servers will have multiple guilds with a mix of high lvl and low lvl players, which is perfect for starting up, as long as you also get along ofc. ;)

4. Siege was is great because, if you truly know how to play your class, regardless what class you are (minus maybe a few) you can still do really well for yourself. The most common SW classes, since they have great PvP factors, would be; K/M, P/K, D/WD, W/K, R/K, R/M, R/WD, M/WD... And ofc, CH/M ;p Many other classes are played, however from what I see and from personal experience, these are most of the 'greats' that can really help out your guild in SW.

5. You can either reach me on Indigo or Artemis servers, via private message or mail. My most common character name I play recently is Zencast, so you should be able to find me easily if you chose one of these two servers, and feel free to ask me any questions you may have at that point.

Goodluck to you and see you in game!

1. Is the game truly dead?
no. we all just like to act hum and glum to make ourselves feel important.

that being said, the game IS declining. it's passed it's "golden age", but it's not dead yet ;)

2. If not, what server has the biggest population/most social people.
artemis is largest. most sociable, well, there is much debate about that. i am sure others will chime in.

3. Is there any place I can find a decent leveling guide to help me along the long journey to Level 80?
theromwiki.com(or what used to be, i think it's under curse management now) has a bunch of great guides, but some may be a bit outdated. the forums are also a great source of info, don't be afraid to go into the archives or use the search function.

4. What classes are the best (if played well) in PvP right now? (By no means am I asking what class is the most OP, just what class can potentially have the biggest damage if played correctly)
for pvp, alot of it depends on skill. if you know your class, how to counter, you will be a whole lot better than some1 who is simply playing an OP combo. i like off-combos, i tend to think i am good at playing them, so i'll leave this open for other people as well.

5. And lastly, is there anyone willing to give me a few tips to get headed in the right direction and get me started on the path to glory?
IRC is a great source of info. we have nothing better to do other than sit around and make fun of each other, so noobs with questions is a great change. IRC can be found here .

don't be afraid to ask questions. as stupid as you may think it is, there is always somebody willing to answer, and possibly some1 looking for the same answer.

that being said, like i pointed out before, don't be afraid to use the search function before you ask. we don't like redundant threads, so show at least a little work. we are not here to do your work/research for you. heck, even linking an old thread with an "is this still relevant?" question attached will work wonders with getting people to help.

Wow, the response time was amazing, thanks to both of you so much, and thanks to anyone who decides to reply. Very glad to see that people definitely are still active/playing. I'll be choosing the Artemis server under the name Zenhype, not sure if the channel matters at all, but if so, i'll be on Channel 1. And again, thanks to both of you for the lightning fast response time, and thanks even more for answering my questions. I'll be sure to add you Roguetopriest. See you in-game!

it does not. originally used to space players out on the server, most zones only have 1 channel now(it may say something different, but if you try and change channel, it won't change anything). you can change channels at any time with just a 25 second "wait" period(i assume to prevent abuse/ease loading?).

have fun in game :D

The most important part of learning about ROM on forums is ignoring anything Cike says about scouts. :P

And booooo to Artemis. Reni is the only place to be.

Oh, and people who have more than 3 classes are clinically insane.

Just to add on a few things:
The lower level zones are quite a bit less populated though, since most players now are at max level. Every server does have a world or trade (chat) channel that a lot of people join, where you'll see most of the people in game, since there's so few in lower zones. And ofc, guild is important as well, both as source of help and where you can chat/meet people.

As for leveling guide, I don't think it'll be really necessary. Quests will take you from one zone to the next, so there should not be much trouble. Although since you get to pick 3 or more classes in game, everyone does have several lower level zones to let you level up each of these classes separately.

Also, don't powerlevel your primary class either by buying those horribly overpriced XP orbs in cash shop or from player powerleveling... >_> Leveling generally shouldn't require much in terms of cash shop, so don't be too worried about using the cash shop to modify your gear until when you're near level cap and making your endgame gear. Because one set of gear will cost enough... better to save $$ on that and not spend too much on gear that's used for questing.

And why do we always send new players to Artemis like its the best place to be? I don't think the population is actually that significantly lower on some of the other PvE servers comapred to Artemis, if it even is still the most populated (since server status is now ideal like all the other servers, so there's no indication that its still more populated).

Have to agree with Noble's last paragraph. I'm not really sure where people are getting their numbers from to support the statement that Artemis is the most populated. It certainly hasn't seemed to be the most populated the times I've been on there. That said, it could be interpreted data based on the availability of items in the AH as an indication of how active people are, I really don't know. If these statistics do indeed exist, I for one would be very interested in seeing them for myself.

As far as being social, Govinda wins this hands down IMO. Join /world and you will see people chatting almost constantly throughout the day (yes sometimes it's meaningless chatter, but you at least know other people are actually online playing lol). Nothing against the other servers but on reni at least it seems that most folks prefer to chat in guild or on raidcall/vent rather than in /trade or /Trade with the few folks who do use megas kinda treating it more like their own private chat channel - again, not saying this to be critical, just my observations folks. :)

i normally advise new players to roll an alt on every server they are considering, each with a different class combo they intend to try. level to 15/15. that way you probably have a good grasp of both the style of play and the server.

nothing worse than putting months and real money into a toon just to find out you like another server or another combo better.

The problem is, you'd be only exposed to maybe 1 or 2 guilds on each server with that, and you'd judge the whole server based on the 1 or 2 guilds you were in during that time, which probably wouldn't be a very accurate judgement. Unless you go and join every guild on that server and get to know everyone.

I have to agree though, why does everyone say Artemis has the highest population? Reni has two endgame guilds running current content, and we also have some very populated midgame guilds in Disturbed and Knightshift, so I'm not sure why Artemis is always the goto when people ask about population. Doesn't Artemis/Govinda only have PPK/Bteam as far as endgame guilds go? Those are the only ones I ever hear about, anyway.

Artemis has been around the longest, but I don't know that that automatically guarantee's that its population is the highest.

I left the game a few months ago to seek out other things ( ok work was kicking the crap out of me) I am currently downloading the game again, which tells you something right there. This game has its bugs, gotta be honest about that but its fun and the people are awesome unlike some other games out there.

I play on Govinda tho I have toons on each of the servers that one is home, it may not be the most populated but its where I started. As for help in the game there are guides out there, and if I find my folder of them I will post mine somewhere ( step by step for gear, instances, siege etc, yes I had alot of free time on my hands) Also most of the time you can ask and someone will say sure what do you need, and if you join a guild its easier to get answers.

Anyway I cant think of anything else to say, if you have more questions send me a msg, or hit me up in game Im usually on Jinkz or Ayslinn.

Take care and have fun!!!

You are right Borella, however, as you mentioned PPK and Bteam, you have to remember that these are the top 2 guilds... going off sw ranking ofc. So comparing Reni's 2 endgame guilds can't really be done, not to mention both these servers have close-to if not fully endgame guilds not counting the top ones. Also, not everyone says Artemis is top, as I said on this thread in my very first post, Artemis is probably the most populated still, if Reni or Govinda have not surpassed them yet. I have a character I play in Govinda along with 3 other servers... I'm not saying Artemis is the best server by any means, I was answering the OP's question, as was anyone else with the reply 'Artemis'. And I do agree with the others here Zenhype, that you could visit different servers and see how you are accepted and/or fit in. :) However, the downside to this, is a Ruisen said... One bad experience with a player or guild on a server can ruin that servers experience for you... So I guess you must just try your luck and see what happens! ^.^

Well Reni will always be the place to be, Cike great job on saying the game is dying, once again so helpful. It is not because people log in IRC and chit chat all day without accomplishing anything in game that it makes you a know it all. We've had many many players join Reni in the last few months in different guilds, it's all about the attitude you show to new players and how helpful you are. Old players making a come back also and re-gearing and leveling.

You will find helpful and nice people on all servers and you will find their counterpart too, do not let them discourage you. I have been playing since september 2009, a lot has happened in all these years, good and bad. GM's are a big part in the game now and are very helpful and give us special events from time to time. BTW Disturbed 5th anniverssary is coming !!!!!!!

Make sure to log onto all servers, check the chatter in world chat, trade chat etc and you can see if the population is what you are expecting. It will also depend on the hour of the day, since you have people from all over the world playing this game. So time difference can play a huge role in where you wanna be. We have people from England/Australia/est coast/west coast/South America etc in our guild and it varies a lot. People with jobs/children and everyday lives also affect their time for gameplay etc.

Sure you will find a home and enjoy yourself, hope to see you around in game or siege!! HAVE FUN!!!!

A lot of people on Govinda do flood into Bteam though, so I think they wouldn't have much less members than 2 endgame guilds. There's still also 3 midgame guilds on the server that PuG together and are capable of doing up to Mandara HM and BethH (and Grotto HM soon, they got first to 2% lol). Siege wise, being 3 guilds, you won't see us very high up.
