Using any program, 3rd party or not to automate functions in the game down to a single click for continuous actions is a bannable offense. If it is anything that allows you to benefit away from the keyboard, don't use it. There are very few exceptions to this rule, some are:

Using a book in your house
Crafting using only in game functions
removing debt at a library

If it isn't those, when in doubt, don't try to get something for nothing.

As the folks said, any third party bots are illegal.

If you want to progress in the game, you'll have to work with the tools the game has to offer. There's no need of anything else.

Have fun! =]

For those bashing, there are actually a few games released by the same company that implemented what is equivalent to bots. I don't find is surprising that players actually come to the forums asking about them. No need to be rude to the new people.

As Blank said, I used to play a game where things that the OP is talking about is a crucial part of the game (hint hint eligium)

The game I played needed players to kill 85 - 200 mobs for one quest, making it severely grindy.

That being said, no. ROM does have have an ingame botting program (and its against the rules and you will get banned).

like BB and blank said, some of the more "grindy" games feature afk-combat systems.

while it works well, and enhanced those games, it's not for all games. the game must be designed with the feature in mind.

Agreed with not bashing folks who are simply asking a question about the game. We all find different things that we enjoy about gaming and I think they did the best thing they could by asking in the forums ahead of time.

Personally, I don't have a problem at all with botting or power leveling or doing whatever you find enjoyable if it allowed by the game devs and publishers. Obviously if it's not then it's not. Who says games have to require alot of grinding or work to be enjoyable or rewarding? I've never understood that mentality nor do I really understand people who try to compare games like RoM to "real life" because it's not. I for one have enough to deal with in RL that I certainly don't need to do it while I'm supposed to be relaxing and having fun playing a game.

Personal view on botting. I am talking about this game, no other. Since things botted end up in the AH, it's an inherently selfish act, considering that botted items compete against non-botted items. If there was no AH, where everything had to be obtained by said character, I could see it. But it's not that way. A person says a lot about his character when he runs bots in this game, and none of it good. Just a personal point of view. :) :) :)

Well if people would actually read the TOS for the game, they would know that it is illegal and bannable. It's easy to click next, next, i agree when you install a computer program, then complain and say : Oh no one told me that. A contract is a contract, in real life or the internet, read it before you sign it, stop being an ostrich and think you'll get away with it.

iirc, ToS talks about 3rd party programs, not ingame features.

I couldn't find anything in the ingame ToS about using an ingame feature to accumulate objects, currency, or XP/tp while not at the keyboard, could you?

also, by the looks of it, OP prolly hasn't downloaded the game yet.

Um, I have read them, prior to becoming a Mentor/GM. I've read both the in-game ToS/EUALA and the T&C, which can be found here:

http://agbserver.gameforge.com/enGB-TaC-Runes-of-Magic.html

I shall direct your (and others') attention to Section 7, specifically subsections 7.1 through 7.4 (c). Those pretty much cover what has been discussed here. Also remember that as GMs, the staff is allowed to make judgment calls as to whether to loosely or strictly enforce what's covered in those subsections, including actions which are not specifically called out or described therein, for the good of the game in specific or in general.

In other words, people, if you think you might be in violation of the game rules, the ToC/EUALA, and/or the T&C, don't do it.

I believe the thread starter's question has been more than amply answered, so I shall close this.
