3.0.4 to current? Should I come back?

I have been away from RoM for a LONG time. I left about 3.0.4 and this was because of guild issues, playstyle changes, and the dreaded gear issues. It seemed like most of my day was logging in just doing the same mini-game, dailies, and logging off disgusted because of lack of finding a good group for instance. My primary was a priest/mage and healing is my big thing but being up in levels solo killing was going slow. Now I am sure with as many versions have come out there may be a lot to do but when I get up to the top will I hit the same headache as I did last time?

If you intend to patch from 3.0.4, you're going to download more in patches than making a new installation would fix.

Try using the links in my signature to find the client download files without having to use the GameforgeLive downloader.

There's such a lot has changed from 3.0.4 that listing them all here would take some considerable amount of time. Quick highlights include tons of levels to be gained and quests to enjoy, scalable minigames (mobs at roughly your level), Phirius Shell currency (easier (?) gearing and statting), improved gear rewards from quests, Third class availability.

its an MMO friend. Grinding is part of the equation. grind grind grind XD and if you want to kill mobs easier make some cheap mage gear. keep your healer gear for runs.

Many of the issues you faced when you left still persist yet there are still guilds out there who try very diligently to organize and run things together so with a little luck and patience perhaps this will be your experience as well. All that said, PUGs are not very common at all on either Govinda or Reni and many people log on just for siege only at the moment. I'm not saying that to "scare you off", merely presenting the observations of many right now so that you have no false expectations.

I disagree tuulikki for Reni, there is PUG groups going on, you just gotta be in the right channel ;-) and know the right people. They do not world shout it, but have a channel for it, i see them gathering around all the time, but you also have to be of level and willing to participate in the run. Too many times you have a toon that wants to go, with no gear, level 80+ and wants to be dragged trhough, not gonna happen. Those people also will say that they just wants set-skill and will not get gear till 87/87, good luck with that. I do not mind helping but i will not drag people while they sit on their arses, participate and try at least ;-)

I have characters on multiple servers including Reni, the key on all servers currently is that you must be in a guild. The Auction houses are mostly empty of useable gear. Finding a PUG group is very difficult if not impossible.
Pick a guild that will help you with both getting upgraded and geared up. Without that you will find it almost impossible to level up without much grinding and finding useable gear almost impossible. Players will almost give the world in help and gear to active guild members but ignore non members.
So step one is find a good guild who does the runs you want and will be willing to help.

Zidlef is half right. If you wanna run Bethomia or lower (lvl 80 instance) then you can get a pug group pretty easy on Reni assuming you have a somewhat geared character. If you want to run Grotto or Pillars then you need to be in VVV or Knightshift, and I'm not sure that KS has run pillars hard yet.

We’ll have to agree to disagree on that one Zid (and others since I started my reply lol). While I’m happy to hear that some folks on Reni have regular access to pug groups that has not been my experience and I suspect it has not been the experience for others as well. Now, to address the rest of your response:

I understand where you are coming from, please don’t get me wrong here. There are currently way too many players who want to be run through everything and not contribute only complain. I also think there are way too many players with unrealistic expectations: i.e. not in an end game guild but refusing gear that is not OD endgame already +/statted. That said…

As mentioned many times before on the forums, there really isn’t much in the way of affordable, ready to wear gear to help newer and recently level capped players start running instances as contributing players. Even quest and crafted gear needs to be cleaned/plussed/statted/drilled and that get's expensive. In the past it was different. People regularly upgraded their gear and put their old gear up for sale so it was an achievable goal and I don’t think anyone thought it an unreasonable request to gear to the best of one’s ability before setting foot in an instance.

Unfortunately, this is no longer the case. Whatever gear that is available is often out of reach of many players or takes them an inordinate amount of time to acquire. I personally do not think taking 6 months to a year to even partially gear a toon is a reasonable amount of time at all. Heck, how many of us have pieces we’d like to use that have been sitting in our banks for months waiting on stats, + gem/puri sales, etc. so we can actually use it – and that’s just one piece of gear lol

But where the rock/hard place position really comes into play is when players have to decide whether to +/stat quest, crafted or other gear that they realize they will not be keeping for any significant amount of time. Right now, that’s asking them to incur a pretty significant investment of time, money and faith in a game that is obviously in a holding pattern.

In the end I just think we need to find a happy medium somewhere that doesn’t require players to break the bank to get gear so they can run anything past HoS or constantly change guilds to find someone willing/able to help them gear up. Sorry for the long post, that’s just how I roll sometimes :P

@Tuulikki

The problem with getting to the place where you would like to go is that without sufficient server population it's nearly impossible. There aren't the number of people running instances that there used to be to supply that gear. The reason there was so much equipment in the Auction House in the past was because there was up to 3 endgame guilds at one point all running endgame content and competing to farm the best gear and sell it, which drove prices. Now there is only one guild farming any gear at all, and at a very slow rate.

The only hope for this game right now is for the server merge to actually happen. Until then you will have to sit tight and use quest/crafted gear.

For people in a tight spot, the quest accessories are actually pretty decent when compared to endgame accessories, and you can always mem farm the old fashioned way and run some easy modes. Beth easy should be doable for most 6 man parties assuming you have ok weapons and a few statted pieces.

Once you have enough memento's you can pull endgame earrings and necklaces at least. Rings are still always gonna be best from pom vendors but the EoJ rings are pretty close as well if you want to farm Energy of Justice.

@Gutterboy

My gear is fine on both servers actually so I really don't have any skin in that game, but I do have guild members who haven't been as fortunate as I have or simply haven't been at level cap as long. The gearing strategies you mention are well and fine. I'm also an advocate of the quest blue accessories - I have been for awhile now lol. But again, it's a hard sale trying to convince people to invest into crafted/quest gear right now. Heck, it's a hard sale getting folks to invest anything period right now - not just money, but their time. Both servers I play on, Govinda and Reni, gain and lose the majority of players just before and just after siege which doesn't leave time for anything else.

The point I was making above is that we all need to put our heads together and figure out what changes WE as communities can put into place because what we are doing right now isn't working that well for the vast majority of the server populations.

Unless people are willing to spend a lot of money to gear themselves up and make a new batch of endgamers then there won't be any progress made for a while.

I'm sure as heck not gonna spend any more money on Rom in the current state..

i regret wholeheartedly spending most likely thousands on this game in last 3-4 yrs, if i look into my paypal account ill probably cry, so i wont. But havent spent a dime in over 6-8 months somewhere there, and doesnt look like i will either anytime soon. Who knows maybe with servor merges ill be reunited with old friends and new :)

Patiently waiting for merge i guess. or new content already LMAO.

I think there's a lot of us in that boat FarmerTom and like you are in a holding pattern waiting for change. Hopefully by the time something happens there will still be some folks logging in who are able to appreciate it. Looking at the AH on Govinda just now I'm not so optimistic. I've never seen the AH this empty before (Reni is doing much better with theirs btw). Crossing fingers and toes that something happens soon :)
