Better FPS

I've seen videos with some amazing fps that don't even drop past 50-60, but I'm playing on lowest settings without other player effects there and during siege and buffing up for a boss in a run I can get as low as 1-3 fps :/ What's the trick to keeping it stable?

Runes of Magic is a relatively old game (6 or so years) and has never been re-engineered or re-optimized. It is a 32-bit game and is not as advanced or efficient as many newer games are. But you do NOT need bleeding-edge hardware to get decent to excellent performance out of the game.

Here are some hardware tips for running RoM:

4GB system RAM (8GB+ is better, mainly to help run/support other programs and background processes.)

A dedicated video card, if you are using a desktop computer. Integrated (built-in) video subsystems are poorly-engineered to display graphics-intensive games, so a dedicated video card is really needed. Choose a card that is no more than 2-3 years old, design-wise, with 1GB of dedicated video RAM onboard. Inexpensive (sub-$100) dedicated video cards are available from many online vendors.

You can NOT upgrade the video section of a notebook computer.

Entry-level computers ($300-$500) are not good gaming machines. But there are any number of good mid-level ($600-$800) systems available that will do quite nicely with RoM and many other games. Shop and choose carefully, especially if you need to have a notebook computer.

I'd guess that 90%+ of all new computers today come with Windows 8 or Wiindows 8.1. There are some (mainly refurbished) which are available with Windows 7. (Alienware supplies their new systems with Windows 7.) In my opinion, a Windows 7 system is preferable, but Windows 8 can be made to work well with RoM.

Connecting to RoM:

A wired (CAT-5 ethernet) connection is, and always will be, superior to a wireless connection. I cannot stress this enough. If you MUST use a wireless connection, for whatever reason, try to find a place for the computer which has the strongest wireless signal.

Also

There are legal options to reduce lag. Players can change graphics but hitting esc / audio video settings.
Also avoid things that cause allot of lag. Don''t forget to Relog to save data. Relog after chain porting can reduce lag and crashes. Some systems run the game better than others so don't feel obligated to run out and buy a new computer if you lag or crash. However having an updates system certainly decreases lag and there is a point where updating your system is necessary to run all programs.

There are major memory leaks in the game. Turning off the game every hour and letting it sit before restarting helps for a while. This is often necessary after changing characters or zones. If entering an instance or siege make sure you do so as soon as possible after a restart. Playing for hours and changing a lot of zones then trying to play instances or siege without a restart doesn't always work out well.

Players also turn off all costumes and effects to get better results. It can help.

The skill bars (action bars?) and a number of other display units you see while playing can sometimes have a negative effect. I found that installing xbar III addon gave me +/- 10fps. Later I clicked the "slim" option on my extended skill bar addon and that too gave me +/- 10fps. I run an older 64-bit video card, I understand that cards that have less than 128-bit memory width will cause you to lag or crash in the bigger cities, more specifically the cities that are over dungeons like Dalanis.

If my info about 64-bit vs 128-bit memory width is wrong let me know, I have only tried a 64-bit card

The addons I use are mostly a quick fix because I for whatever reason need 130+ skill bar buttons lol

The less add-ons you have , the better. Also you can use cleanmem program for the memory leak issues, i run 8 clients at all time on my main computer, i rarely crash at all, except in siege war ( usually crash once during siege. With 8 clients running i get 38 FPS on all of them steady.

I have 3 other computers with 3 clients each running all the time and they never crash but use them for crafting and processing mainly. They are older processors and video cards also. One has a Intel Q6700 quad core with 4 gigs of Ram and windows Vista 64 bits on it, another has windows 7 64 bits with AMD phenom X4 955 and 12 gigs of ram and the last one has a Intel dual core 4 gigs of ram and windows 7 64 bits.

So has you can see i have a variety of different computers and operating systems, hope it can help you a bit
