A newly returned player on Osha asks for help

I recently began playing Runes of Magic again after about 4~ years after quitting, though unfortunately my main account with my main characters couldn't be recovered. After starting up a new character on Osha, I've gotten to the first major gatekeeper for solo questing, the Forsaken Abbey, and I just cannot find anybody, anybody at all. Hitting U to find everyone in my zone brings up... 4-5 max level people AFKing in Varanas. I hadn't noticed it at any point before this, but the server appears to be a ::cough:: ghost town, at least at low levels.

Is this just the time of year? Or has Warlords of Draenor slain the population? Is it just a bad server? I'm rather confused.

Slowly became to be this.

Though, Osha isn't exactly the most populated server. I think that's Artemis.

How much more populated is Artemis than Osha? It's sort of sad to see that the game's popularity has waned this much though

The game has been declining for well over a year now. What you see now is what it has become. Artemis is the most populated server but it is certainly not "high population" or "busy"

Well, that's really unfortunate. Any idea what the cause for this decline has been?

Edit: this discussion continues here.

Questioning the current state of the game is hardly being negative. Presenting both sides of the equation is equally important. People want to know if a game is worth investing into before they jump in. Presenting both the pros AND cons allows new players to decide for themselves if it's worthwhile to them to invest into this game over another title.

It has become obvious that some posters are simply in denial about the state of this game right now and are not being objective - on both sides of the argument. Is the game dead? No it is not. Is it fine as it is? Again no, there are issues, some of them big enough to be deal breakers for some players. That is why accusing other players of being either too critical or too enthusiastic when posting about the game is just wrong. What is the forum for if not to ask questions, show support or discuss and vent about issues that bother players? Players can hardly talk to the publisher or developer directly and this is one of the few options they have to try and be heard.

Finally there is the advertising debate. This keeps popping up but the question is this: What would they be advertising? What exactly is this game offering over new titles being released? How are they supposed to advertise for a game that’s over 5 years old and talking about merging servers? The timing just might not be “ideal” right now.

Tuulikki whistles the same tune as Heron, it seems. Saying 'threads like this are the problem' is not effective since 1 we get new ones just like it several times per month if not per week and 2 that's no way to change anyone's opinion about the topic either.

Maybe a useful direction this thread could take is to make some constructive suggestions to the author. If he was asking about Osha, then lets see some suggestions from Jguy about where to go that isn't dead. Maybe some names to PM? I know from patrolling it that it has enough players to still be fun.

And those of you not on Osha, maybe give some suggestions of other servers. Someone please bring him into the fold, especially if you've been feeling like you could use a few more people in your respective guilds. In fact, let's have this happen for ALL threads of this type.

Show some love for the new guy, huh? Assuming of course that he hasn't lost interest ...

I haven't lost my interest, no, simply disappointed that the character I spent several days leveling with was essentially all for naught, as it appears I may have to change servers. Osha's barely got a pulse, it would seem. I've seen Reni tossed around a few times, so I may give that a go.

Sorry if this was construed as being "negative", I was simply making an inquiry about the state of the game. I wanted to know if sitting around outside out the Forsaken Abbey or next to Crafty Bernok's spawn point with an LFG up for an hour straight was a waste of my time or not. I'll hop over to Reni to see if it's lively enough for my tastes. This server merging thing has my interest piqued enough to keep playing until I see where that goes, as I'd love to see the game as populated as it was back in the day, though this thing with the diamonds being removed from the auction house and whatnot seems to have left a bad taste in people's mouths. Not that I can say much, I'm really uninformed on the subject.

I still enjoy the game, regardless of anything that happened, and regardless of the rather scant population. As Heron said, if anyone's got suggestions, I'm all ears.

@OP The population in low levels zones are pretty much the same on all the servers. Most servers do have a chatting channel for players to join though, and aside from there, you'll probably meet most people via guild.

Edited for clarity.

Ruisen is correct. Some possible channel names to /join are Trade, trade, LFG, world, World....someone help me populate this list. Each server has one or two common chat channels. These will serve you in better stead than the LFG interface. In three years playing, I've never seen that thing used.

I really think finding a good guild that supports new (and newly returned) players will give you a better enjoyment. I will have to disagree with the notion that your chosen server is dead. There is an IRC channel accessible from the top of your forums webpage. By all means, please join us there. Of the regular users there, we have several each from reni, osha, and artemis. These players seem to me to indicate a viable trio of communities with their stories. I feel that any of these would stand you in good stead. By comparison, we have drive-bys from folks in govinda and palenque and almost nothing from grimdal/indigo/thalia. Participation numbers in GM events support the same conclusions.

Folks in this thread are producing a truly lively and well supported set of discussions about the state of ROM, state of the auction house, and related items. And for once, a minimum of stress and rage. I hate to curtail it, but this thread started as a call for help from a player. Please focus on the topic.

So, I just decided to test this out yesterday, but when I was in Northern Janost Forest (level 60 zone), I used the player search function. It showed about 5-6 players, all level capped. However, it showed a toon that I knew for a fact was in his guild castle. So, in my opinion, you should take what the player search function says with a grain of salt as I think it may be a little buggy. It's not showing everyone online either (if some of you think that was the reason for showing the person), as my guild leader wasn't on the list, who I was talking to at the time.

As for Osha's population, and getting into a good helpful guild, I'd say join the trade channel (I forget which it is, but it's either /join trade or /join Trade), and ask for a guild. I believe Illuminae is pretty helpful, and you could even try asking the guild Prime for help, but I'm sure there are other guild's that I'm not thinking of due to me not actually playing on that server. I also agree fully with heron about joining IRC. If someone on your server can't (or wont) answer your questions, IRC can help answer them. And, because you have a char on Osha, one of the Osha people may be able to help you.

On Reni and Artemis ( two servers I play on ) have world shouts on a fairly regular basis from guilds looknig for new players to join, and as far I as I know most of those guilds have solid reputations as being decent.

I play on Osha server, and am member of Swords of Valor. Several of us would be more than happy to help you through FA or with Crafty. Believe /join Trade will get you on channel you need short of megaphones, Plenty of helpful people on Osha, but most are in higher level zones.

OSHA is NOT dead!

There's are plenty of players on osha...join trade and you will almost certainly find help. I know I help people all the time and most of my guild(Prime) helps others as well.
