Couple Questions

So I just started playing RoM as an Elf mage, on a PvE server (Artemis), and upon reaching level 10 I have a couple of rather important questions to ask.

1) Should I dual-class? I've just been notified that I can. I don't want to lose much of the damage that mages do, but I'd like to also be able to solo on my own a bit.

2) Will I be able to switch to a PvP server with this character eventually, or will I need to make a new one? I can't imagine going through all this trouble leveling up again.

X) Any tips would be appreciated too!

for the vast majority of cases, there is absolutely no downside of taking a secondary class(you get elite skills as well as general skills. if you don't understand the dual class system, i can explain it if need-be). be aware that you have to level each class independently. you will gain transports to other zones to help with this.

at lvl 20/20, you can also choose a 3rd class to rotate in the dual class system if you so wish. another leveling zone accompanies this.

at the moment, no, you cannot switch to a pvp server. that being said, the 2 pvp servers are going to be merged into the govinda-osha-palenque conglomorate, so we'll see what happens.

even if you are on a pve server, there are options to pvp in arena, SW, duels, and pk status, it's just not FFA-PVP(like what the pvp servers are).
my r/p can outdps r/m. your name is stupid.

mages should stack dex. word.

That helps Cike. I don't want just PvE or just PvP.

Any recommendation for what I should take for a 2nd class? I'll be logging back in soon probably.

Mage/Warden/Warrior is all you need

The only weak combo from those 3 classes is Warden/Mage.

Okay I'm only a little bit confused, especially since I've been going through old posts and someone said M/Wd was great. I want to be able to solo some no doubt, but I want to be able to PvP eventually and also be valuable in parties.

i'd look at the skills/elites of other classes and pick one you personally like. a combo could be OP as heck, but if you hate playing it, it's not going to be any fun.

secondary usually alters your playstyle slightly to reflect the combination. for example, mage(fire/lightning) + druid(earth) gets nature-based damage spells, such as "magma blade", while a rogue secondary will yield shadow-ish attacks(vampiric theme), and a knight adds light/holy-based skills, etc.

yes, not all combos are viable in parties, but there should be something both at least somewhat appealing and decent to play.

i'd start here.

the runes of magic irc channels are also good resources, that way you don't have to sit around waiting for forum responses, and you also can get swifter support from gm's. they can be accessed here .

Getting a bit complicated, lots to consider. I'll hop on the IRC chan and see what advice I get (thanks for that info).

Mage/Warden is not the same thing as Warden/Mage. When you have two classes, you have access to these skills:

1) General skills for your main class.
2) General skills for your off class.
3) Class-specific skills for your main class.
4) Elite skills for your combo of main/off classes.
5) ISS skills for your main class.

Category 4 is what often defines the combo - the elite skills are considerably powerful and can make huge difference.

http://runesofmagic.gamepedia.com/Mage_E…Mage_.2F_Warden

In particular, Mage/Warden L70 elite skill allows the character to burst huge amounts of damage for a short time. There are other good elites too, but that one is arguably one of the main reason why M/Wd is successful.
-- Rustyx --- 92R / 92S / 92M on Reni (Guild KnightShift). Yes, running the new FOTM R/M, cause I am not elf enough to be WD/S.

Oh, and people who have more than 3 classes are clinically insane.

I ended up making a second toon to start Mage fresh, took Rogue as a second class but kinda gave up on that one around level 41 (I'm not much for melee/tank), and then took Priest as my third... playing M/P now mostly for the healing abilities. Think Aura is also a Priest general skill, that has saved my ass a ton of times in instances where bosses would've 1-hit me. Even up to 27k hps now isn't very much.

But yeah, casting spells is my jam. If there were no secondary classes to choose from for gens/elites, I'd just be Mage.
