Be a mage/warlock and you can run endgame without spending much.

Evne for other classes though, it doesn't cost that much to gear lol.

This game is expensive if
a) You want to buy every stat and every piece of gear, and do no farming yourself. In that case you'll have to sell quite a lot of diamonds to players.
b) You want to set a new record for more overpowered gear on your server.

Otherwise, it will probably cost around $150-$200 to gear a toon, or less if you're farming quite a bit of phirius tokens too and make some smart decisions about how far you really "need" to mod your gear vs how much you don't "need" but gives that small boost for a large price tag but looks nicer. And that gear will last you at least 6 to 9 months, now that gear upgrades have been so marginal.

Ruisen makes a great point about how your class choice can make a huge difference on gear requirements if you are looking to be endgame, to start getting into the runs. Many endgame guild take alts into hardmode runs if they dont have enough people on to dps it, classes like warden/scout, champion/priest, m/warlock, and warlock/mage are often just ungeared charactered dragged in for their buffs/debuffs. A semi-geared real person who knows what they are doing would in most cases be more accepted though :) Great way to start out in endgame getting the gear/stats you need to progress into other classes.

^ IF that is what your looking for. It's the fastest way to do it as a F2P. Otherwise choose what class you enjoy the most and take your time with it :)

I'm not wrong to post what I posted. It is what it is. If you want to be bleeding edge endgame and down top instances while doing something that isn't purely buffing / debuffing, it could be expensive.

Also, I recommend this game to anyone as it is completely free to play. Explore 100% of the game's content for free. That is pretty much the best thing for an MMO atm.

I never tell anyone who says they want to be top DPS or the best tank or healer to come to this game with the mindset that you will be getting there quickly and for little to no money.

As an example, I have played this game for 5 years, and have spent very very very very little money on this game. It is very much a, spend tons of time and be free to play to get where you want to (I achieved this in about 2-3 years), or "spends tons of money and get to where you want to be in a month.

I stand for getting more players, but I will not stand for players coming here and wasting their time thinking they will get to be endgame and have their hopes demolished because of the price that can be tied with that. If my post was read, I did say to achieve endgame (down new instance etc) and to get there fast, spending a lot of real money is totally required.

On a side note, you can purchase itemshop items from people who do buy diamonds. There is a "gift" feature in the itemshop that allows people who have diamonds to send any item from the itemshop to any player. Be aware, however, that there is no 100% guarantee of receiving the item. There is no "cod" option tied to gifting. Always try to make sure the person is reliable by asking other players, checking level, checking what guild they are in, etc.

I hope you do come to the game, I was just trying to be informative. Unlike Zid, I care more about someone's wallet (and personal hopes) more than gaining a new player to Runes of Magic... so I am upfront to potential newbies.

TL;DR its f2p if you choose 100% content is free. can buy itemshop items from dia sellers. can spend tons of time on game to get super geared (and drop little money), or can spend tons of dollars (and little time).

I think its easier to be FTP now than it was back in the day, all you basically need is the level. Crafted/Shell/Easy Mode Gear is enough to get you going, bag stats are great.

I personally would rather give a piece away than try to sell it because you will never get back the cost of making it.

A lot of people pass around loaner gear to help new players level, they don't even necessarily have to be in the same guild. At least that's how it is on Govinda, everyone seems to get along well enough.

Sharing is caring. :)

And on that note, I will recommend Govinda as your server of choice.

Yes, I am biased but according to some server hopping creepers, we are the nice server

I'd me more comfortable 50 a month in total between the 2 of us.

This is doable. I myself, and quite a few guildmates, do well on this much or less. Just don't aim to be out on the edge in terms of gear, you'll be just fine.

it is also very doable without spending any money at all.

simply depends on what you are looking to get out of this game.

if you are looking for a nice, casual, fun game, this is probably the best you will find.

if you are looking to run endgame in a small amount of time, then you will be paying an arm and a leg.

we aren't going to sugarcoat it, but if you are looking for casual fun, this game can't be beat.
my r/p can outdps r/m. your name is stupid.

$50 a month will probably be enough to gear 2 toons, especially if you're familiar with item shop prices and know the best possible deal when you see them (like 50 dias per ABL, 10 dias per puri, 15 dias per +16 jewel). Or heck, don't even both with +16 jewels for armour except for chest piece. T6 +11 gear like a boss ^^ <- I do this so I have to support this :D

Imo, if you want to get the most out of your money, wait until you've been playing for long enough to be familiar item shop prices and know the best sales/deals, as well as knowing which item shop items you actually "need" before you start buying diamonds. You also don't need any diamonds to play this game until you get to near level cap, so any diamonds spent before that is, well, kinda unnecessary.

As time goes on, the difference between people who pay a lot and people who pay a little (or even none) gets lesser. In some cases, money buys you power, but in most cases it buys you quick shortcut path to power. You want to be powerhouse right away, pay up through the nose. You want to grow your way to be powerhouse and enjoy the process of building your power yourself, pay less or even nothing.

Oh, and people who have more than 3 classes are clinically insane.

Also, a tip about buying diamonds: only buy them when they are on sale for 120% or more. Doing so will help you save a lot of money.

For buying items from the item shop, the best price for an item is during Happy Hour. However, not every item needed will be put up on Happy Hour, so, unless you're willing to wait, the weekend sales tend to be the best bet to find what you need for a cheaper price.

No, you weren't wrong at all and I want to thank you for pointing it out to me! I want to know every side of it, and know what I'm getting into. Thankfully, I am not an instant gratification kinda person, and im more than happy to take the time to earn things, so over spending sounds like it shouldn't be to much of an issue for me.

Im also really appreciative of everyones tips and advice about diamonds and when to buy and what not.

I am going to be playing the game and checking it out, and seriously, thank you for all the replies and help. This is the friendliest and most helpful community I have been around in a long time.

Speaking of F2P, there are some excellent opportunities available in the current fest. There's a type of craftable permanent mount shaped like a dragon, and a garden full of lootable chests that can give free plussing jewels and the more difficult to obtain pet foods. Also gives transmutor charges and enough craft items to create a set of zodiac pets for buffs. You joined at a good time, be sure to take advantage of the fest while it lasts.

Welcome to ROM Emrillia. I have played this game for a long time and i am completely ftp. I am by no means the most powerful dps but that is by choice. I am getting lazier in my old age. The community on Govinda is very helpful and friendly and everyone helps each other out. That makes this game much more enjoyable. Don't be scared off with the $$ figures because if you are willing to work for it there are no limits to how strong you can become. Good Luck:)
