Has this game got any better with lag?

I really enjoyed playing this game for a long time but as more expansions and update hit, the game got worst with lag, disconnects, and more so EXPENSIVE. I hat it because this could have been a good product if they would not be so money hungry and make things needed to be good in this game. Lag was big and no its not my system. I really would like to see a change in direction and see things get better. I mean it shows a lot when they are merging server, that means they are loosing people big time. Please look at your game and fix it. Make more people want to play.

For FPS lag, there are several things that can fix it. I think there's even another forum thread about increasing FPS. Lowering graphics, Razer Game Booster(? I've never tried it before) deleting addons can decrease crashing etc.

For Ping lag, I know of a couple things that can help it. BB knows the details but there is something called "WTFAST" that substantially decreases ping lag (inb4BB).

Other than that, if your internet is good, it's all on the other end and there isn't 'much' you can do about it. But I don't know everything about this stuff. I'm sure there's people who can help you out more than myself.

This isn't the award winning game it used to be. The graphics are old, and there's too many bugs. It would take a lot more than simple advertising to get many people to play RoM anymore :( .

Like I said, I'm not too knowledgeable on this topic.. Or many topics for that matter. Hopefully someone else will come along and correct my mistakes.. xD

I'm not a pc expert by any stretch of the imagination so take this info as is if you will lol. WTFast just ate a small amount of resources, I never saw any improvement regarding fps, ping stayed the same (no ping spike fix) so *shrug. Cleanmem has helped a ton with my random crashes (video card causes all my crashes now but that is my own fault). Cleanmem takes some "tinkering" but there are a few walkthroughs available for it.

Funny how these posts keeps popping up about lag etc.

Pentium 1 won't cut it
4 gigs of RAM really not optimal if running 2 clients
Cheap internet connection, maybe time of letting go of dial up 56K
Cheap 512K video card is a no no

Cleanmem helps a lot for the memory leak issue and has for the past year and a half for me.

But also funny way back when a discussion of having an Intel core 3 or 5 is more then enough to run this game blablabla. I got a I7 930 Asus gaming motherboard 12 gigs of RAM GTX 760 Nvidia video card, Fiber internet http://www.videotron.com/residential/int…ternet-fibre-60 my internet supplier and since i have been with them for more than 10 years i got a deal at 63$ unlimited bandwith now. My ping in games is steady all the time at 47ms to 62ms and FPS in game on all clients steady at 52 FPS.

With that set up i can run 8 clients all the time at the same time and go up to 11 when farming mats, rarely crashes and logged in 24/7. This week i got bad electrical storm in our area and loss of power has been the big issue. But part from that i rarely crash, most of the people crashing in our guild and on the Reni server are from the USA, so maybe time they upgraded their internet network and stop being cheap about it.

My son plays on the french server in EU and he never crashes playing there at all.

Get a decent computer with a decent video card and RAM and you should be good to go. Check your internet supplier and run tests like Traceroute to see if you are not going through Malaysia or China before getting to ROM servers in Florida. Matron in our guild was ported to Germany or Norway before going to Florida servers but fixed that with his supplier lol.

I also can vouch for Cleanmem but I've never tried WTFast so I really can't comment on that. Mind you, I live right here in Miami where the servers are located and my ping on average is around 10-15ms.

Lol. I only used WTFast during the trial period and thats it. I don't actually use it still. I just know BB does and to him its kind of a big deal. Apparently it helps him tons.. Like I said, you'd have to talk to him about it.. I'm 98.371% sure I have no Idea what I'm talking about on this topic.

This thread makes me LOL.

To fix FPS issues, they'd have to re-write the mechanics/engine of the game. That's why it'll never be fixed. You can gain FPS with Model folder, which takes out most effects in game, but this is a violation of the ToS so I don't recommend this route.

With the WTFast thing, it really only matters if your internet provider is crap. Sometimes this is unavoidable due to certain areas not getting good providers, but its a rare occasion now to crash due to ping issues. Especially since the server doesn't have as much stress on it like in RoM's heyday.

One thing I would suggest in regards to WTFast, though... If you start having an issue where you start disconnecting from RoM raandomly, run a traceroute to the server IP (206.253.173.50) with the command promt and see if you're having any bad hops of high ping or ping timeouts. If you are, I'd suggest using WTFast's free trial as it will bypass that, and hopefully it will be fixed by the time the trial runs out.
