Unable to attack Warden/scout for extended periods?

Last night in siege, I kept facing a warden scout who I was always unable to attack (as my rogue/mage) until someone else attacked that person first.

I understand there is a skill that can prevent a target from attacking:Entangle 18 50 energy Instant 60 seconds Binds the target tightly to your pet, making it unable to move, attack or cast spells for 5.0 seconds.

However, I can't see how this was what was causing me to not be able to attack, unless there have been changes to this or some other skill. Here are the details:

I never received a debuff. I was never unable to move. My inability to launch an attack would last indefinitely... Until someone else attacked that warden. I couldn't do any physical attacks, ranged aoe, or even Illusion Blade Dance. I even tried to attack on a fresh encounter while invisible using a throw and nothing. Is Entangle upgradeable to extend the time of the debuff and remove the inability for the target to move? Is there some other skill that can cause this that I'm not seeing?

Of course I didn't call out hax or anything in game because I don't know all the classes skills, but after looking into the skills, I still don't see what would allow that scenario to play out like that. Can anyone help me understand what was happening? Thanks.

If it wasn't allowing you to attack, what was the skill error it was giving you? It might be a case of lag (kinda like how mobs move but you can't see that they moved, giving you a Must Face Target error).

I didn't think to look at the combat log but there was nothing on screen saying can't attack target or anything like that. I could turn around and attack a balloon monster or one of their other players, just not the warden. I would think maybe he was lagging, but others in my guild could attack and I didn't notice any porting or pulling of his character. It sure felt suspucious but I don't see why others could attack him and I couldn't.

Nope. I never saw any debuffs and never got stunned or rooted (or unable to move). Just couldn't attack him or his pet until he took damage from someone else first.

Trying to understand your statement about IBD and ranged AOE. Those are different than standard skill attacks because targetting is not required. Are you saying that you could not cast IBD while the Warden was targeted, but could if he was not?

And by indefinitely, do you mean you kept trying to attack him over and over with no results until somebody else came up and attacked him then poof everything worked? Or, do you mean you attacked him twice to remove his immunes and someone else got the third blow in? Pretty sure generic Warden gets two hit immune, and some other (Wd/W?) gets 5 hit immune; not sure about Wd/S.

On a similar note, was in recent seige and guildy was complaining that he was attacking an obviously afk Warden and could not scratch them. w/e. Siege is no longer what it used to be.

Correct, with him targeted, not even ibd would go off. I didn't think to try clearing target and hitting it to see if that would work. One time, while in hide, I saw him approaching so as I ran toward him but still far enough that he shouldn't see or target me, I hit ibd and it wouldn't go off. But had no problems anywhere else in siege except with that particular player.

When I say indefinitely, I meant I would be running around that player hitting all my keys, macros, and buttons and nothing would work until my teammate attacks that same player... Then my attacks work and I one shot him. One thing I did notice is that when ibd wouldn't go off, it was red/disabled the whole time. Not on cool down, but red as if to say the skill is not available. When I say my attacks wouldn't go off, it was acting like I wasn't even pressing the number for that skill/attack. Not a Dodge, not a miss, not an absorbed damage, and not even a "you cannot do that now". I'm telling you it was really weird and felt like some sort of purposeful act to prevent me from hiting him. Next time I'll do a video.

I admit, during each time it happened it felt like lag problems but is it coincidence that it happened only with that parti ulay enemy player, every time I faced him, and that it cleared up every time my teammate attacked him? Maybe, but doubtful.

u couldnt use IBD >> consumes projectiles
u couldnt use r/m ranged aoe >> consumes projectiles
u couldnt use throw >> consumes projectiles

r u sure u had projectiles equipped?

apart from that, was it THE SAME skills that were blocked before as the ones that got triggered after ur teammate attacked? i mean, u were trying to use throw and nothing happend and then ur friend attacked and u used throw? or some other skill triggered (eg LB) due to ignorance of the macros u use? clarify plz

This is an odd situation. To the best of my knowledge, neither Enlivened Blade, Day of Rain, nor Illusion Blade Dance (all R/M elite AoE skills) rely on targeting. In fact, I know of NO AoE attacks which rely on targeting.

It's possible that lag or a lack of projectiles (or both) could contribute to the issue, and could also affect Throw/Combo Throw. Lag could also easily affect direct (melee) attacks and Mage general attacks.

Otherwise, I have no other explanations. Please keep us informed of any further observations or incidents of this kind.

In fact, I know of NO AoE attacks which rely on targeting.
Pre-elite Earth Pulse is the only thing that I can think of off the top of my head. Requires a target, but does the same damage to everything within it's area of effect (from you to target).

mother earth fountain, camellia flower, countdown seeds(tosh version too) do target dependent aoe, but idk if you guys wana count heals and iss :P

as for damage skills i can think of scout piercing arrow and reflected shot.

edit: maybe you had strike of punishment debuff on you. stop you from using physical skills

I would argue against Earth Pulse, Piercing Arrow, and Reflected Shot being true AoE attacks, and that all three require at least one toon or mob be targeted in order for the attack to be made in the first place. Just saying, mainly to avoid confusion.

I did think of another possibility, but it has its flaws.

Every so often, especially after changing classes, one or more skills (including ISS skills) can become bugged. The usual fix for this is to open the appropriate skill page, drag the offending skill off the action bar, and replace it.

But...you also receive a big red warning on the screen telling you that the skill cannot be used by the current class. Naveecheefe said nothing about this happening, and I believe someone already mentioned the warning. So...

I'm officially stumped.
