Noob question

I am a long time player that left the game for many years. The thing that is driving me crazy is trying to remember how to 'hide/show' armor on my toon. I know one of my old ones had wings but can't find out how to access the screen that will allow me to toogle items on and off. I've looked everywhere on the character screen for anything saying costume but can't find anything. If anyone could help, I'd appreciate it.

on your character screen, click on the square adjacent to necklace and shoulders. it's probably denoted by a large number 1. on the new screen, you can toggle hide/show clothing as well as choose costume pieces from the magic wardrobe, which can be accessed from the coat hanger icon.

any costume piece can be placed in the magic wardrobe without charge. they will be accessible for all toons on same account. you may place non costume pieces into the wardrobe for the cost of an advanced aggregator.

OK, and this is where I start to lose my mind.... the icon next to the necklace and shoulders spots on the character screen is a backpack looking icon that says it is for switching out saved items (addon) whatever that means as I do have the outfit change icon at the bottom of the right hand side for when I change class. I just don't see what should be right there or I just can't remember how to get it to do what I want it to do.

That addon is outdated. It placed its icon where there was nothing before then the game implemented the wardrobe. You should be able to click something right behind that backpack icon and it's the wardrobe lol.
