Race Suggestion: Dwarf

Another good addition to the game would be a dwarven race choice. Dwarves are hardy and strong, but not the smartest race. Masters of blacksmithing and mining.

First, the customization options. Beards, faces and hair would be customizable. Many writers and mythologists suggest that female dwarves have beards as well, i doubt that many female players would like to have a female avatar with a beard, so female dwarves probably wont have beards.

Second, race-exclusive classes. I believe that dwarven ingenuity would lead them to create guns. Rifles and Pistols and possibly Hand cannons, at higher lvls. Rifles and handcannons would be two handed, pistols would be one. For those of you who havent seen, there is a "Gun" bar in the weapon skill window, which means that guns will be added eventually. I am not sure about a second class, possibly an earthen mage, since mages use flame and wind, and priests use water. This class would use earth magics to increase their defence, they would be able to use one handed weapons, and maybe the ability to use pistols as well, do make up for their fighting strength, so i guess they would be the dwarf equivilant of a knight. As i said though, im not sure on a second class for them.

Third, their backstory. Dwarves are toilsome creatures, the majority of their race are miners, digging away day and night. One tribe of dwarves were more focussed on this task than any other, and digged furiously to obtain the precious metals and gems for their riches. One dwarf was very foolish, and found a gem that he had never seen before. It was a trap that had been set there by the most treatcherous of demons, and when he reached out to touch it, it turned all the dwarves in the mines to stone, and sealed the cave off. Soon after, the rest of the tribe was murdered by the demons who had laid the trap. The eye of wisdom found the cave and opened it, finding the dwarves trapped inside, after many years of trying to free the trapped dwarves they succeeded. The dwarves then asked what happened to the dwarves who hadnt been sealed away. The order told them that they had been slain by demons, and that many centuries had passed since then. Furious at the demons who had done this to them, the dwarves swore to get their revenge, and most of them signed on to join the human army, while a few stayed behind to toil in the mines and the forges in order to supply their brothers and sisters with the finest dwarven weapons and armor the world had ever seen.

I also thought that since dwarves were so good at crafting, that they would be able to master two jobs instead of one. One gathering skill and one crafting skill, such as mining/smithing, or cutting/carpentry. I dont know how frogster would feel about that, but im still suggesting it. I appreciate any feedback on my suggestions, and hope that my suggestions will be supported by many and heard by frogster to be used in the game, if not, at least i made an effort. Something that would be interesting w/ any additional race would be racial modifiers... ie +3 % patk, -10% matk, +10% hp, -3% p-acc for dwarves. :)

humans would have 0 mods ( since the game is based on humans )

& as far as trades, I think different races could have different trade proficiencies, so they get bonuses; but I don't think allowing any race, but humans to master more than 1 would be unfair ( since humans would have 0 bonuses )

you have to think about it this way, humands dont have much special about them in most fantasy books or movies, besides the fact that they are strong at heart, and usually are the heroes. elves are nimble and dexteritus, and dwarves are hardy and masters of mining and crafting weapons and armor. so i guess i'll change my suggestion so that they only be able to master both mining and blacksmithing, and elves should be able to master woodcutting and carpentry. but these are just suggestions, if frogster doesnt like this bi-mastery thing, then i hope they still use the rest of my race suggestions

If you ever played D&D humans, while they did not have too many advanteges above other races, were perfectly balanced and made up for it with the ability to gain another feat if I remember right. Something similar could be done, not sure what, but yeah. I want racial stats, more races and classes, I would like to see maybe the popular necromancer class in tons of RPGs, maybe paladins, shadow/dark knights, monks, ect. (Sure, I know the dark/shadow knights can be "built" with a knight/rogue and paladins with a knight/priest" but still)

Dwarves should NOT have a female counterpart but instead be explained that you define what your gender is like LotRO dwarves have no female counterparts, because in LotR Gimli states in one part, "People think there is no such thing as a female dwarf, that's not true we just look alike." to which Aragorn replies, "Probably because of the beards."

yea, i know about that, and a lot of other sources say they look alike, but let's admit it, girls are gonna be less likely to play as tiny bearded people, i mean guys wouldnt bat an eye and would probably think they're kick ass, but girls, im not so sure

Dwarven females have small, fuzzy beards unlike the men that have big, thick beards. and dwarfs are also good enginears so they could use things like bombs for a throwing weapon.

dont see the point to a new race that ppl will still roll into r/s's. want a dwarf? make ur toon short and fat on the creation menu. and guns? lol i can just see it now, dwarven rogues dual wielding pistols with a grenade launcher stat stick.

@ OP, seriously tho a great idea, but they cant implement what they have effectively, and as you can probably tell from my sarcasm above, until they figure out how to let each class have its own plusses and minuses, let each class be different in both subtle and obvious ways, then im afraid that the above scenario would be true within 20 minutes of the race being released. 1 hour after that we will see youtube of " lvl 20 dwarf rogue solos sardo with pistols "

so im gunna b a wet blanket here and say no to new content until existing content works and seige is removed or the beta tag is

I'm all for having another race (heck, I'd be fine with another class), but I would much rather get some of these bugs worked out and siege is fixed taken out of beta.

I do have one problem with the OPs suggestion, though:

This sounds almost exactly like a sub-plot I had going in a story I wrote a few years back, except it was with Gnomes. I CALL HAXX!!

Hell, no!

Why would we want Runes of Magic to be like every other MMO out there?

Let's have a bit of alteration made to Sascilia Steppes and have the Capra made a playable race instead. When Runewaker gives us that possibility, I'll re-roll instantly!

Adding a new race is totaly pointless. Seeing another race using the same old classes going through the same old animations is completely worthless. It may be cute but serves no purpose and adds nothing the game. If they want to spend all that time and money to add something new it should be a new class so there is an actual change to the game and game play.
