Suggestion: World Chat

I think it's time to change how World chat works..
Lately ive noticed gold spammers using world chats

Fix: Get rid of Megaphones and create a level requirement to talk in world

I'd say the level req should be level 50-55

Opinions/Feedback would be appreciated (:

I've had that opinion for a long time.

You can't speak in zone till you hit level 5, but can shout in world before you ever make a single experience point.
I think the should be some kind of level requirement before you can do so, but 55 would be too high.
Many shouts are for help with quests etc, low levels need help too.

I think a fair compromise here would be:

1. make megas cost more... a lot more. 99 dia's per
2. remove them from the obsidian stronghold event
3. have megas drop in instances <-- the big change...

Have megas be boss drops w/ rarity tied to boss stage. ie, boss 1 has 5% dropping a mega, boss 2 has 9% drop rate, boss 3 has 12% drop rate, boss 4 has 15% drop rate & boss 5+ has 20% of dropping megas.

that would be for normal difficulties, double the %'s on hard modes.

megas would be bind on pickup and be available in instances.

how would this help?

1. most gold sellers don't run instances because many of them don't put much time into their toons. they make 'em & they get banned, they make 'em & they get banned.. etc.

2. having a higher diamond cost lowers the chance someone would pay for them.

2a. would this hurt the rom economy??? nope. by making megas instance drops, it pushes ppl to run instances. running instances generally requires gearing up and getting social, but more importantly.. gearing up. <-- the TRUE cost of rom.

2b. would frogster lose money if megas were drops? most likely not. As it is, I don't think too many players pay for megas. I remember many of us on reni would hit up the OS event just to get megas. Well, the hair color changer is fun too. ;) but I digress. I haven't seen the financials, so I don't really know how much of the CS revenue is megas, but I'm willing to bet that not many ppl waste diamonds on them.

On the other hand, many ppl spend a lot of time and $$$ on gearing up for instances, so it would be nice to see CS items like megas drop in instances. Hence the increased price in the CS... on one hand, it's harder to world chat if you just wanna sit around advertising your gold selling site; on the other, it's easier if you are part of a group that runs instances regularly.

I support this...only because I don't like world chat at all. Maybe all the insecure people that just *MUST* be heard would think twice about posting if it was 99 dias message...same with people that just must air out their dirty guild laundry for everybody to see...oh, and gold spammers! LOL (I never see this in world on Palenque but I'm sure it happens)

Seperate trade/LFG channels work better for those actually using it for legit reasons, IMO. :D

[LEFT]Well in my experience the only people who use world shouts below level 50 are trolls and gold spammers
If a lower level needs help with something like killing an elite or being run through a low level instance they should first ask there guild and if that doesnt work ask in zone.
World chat is mainly used to find people for high level instances (usually RT and up) and people wanting to sell stuff.
people below level 50 dont need to run these instances and it would be pretty strange if they had something worth selling.

But even if they REALLY need to use a world shout they could find a higher level to link there name and send there message in world chat :P

honestly it doesnt take very long to get to level 50 anymore

golden hammers as rare drops from last bosses would be nice... the closer the party average is to the dungeon level, the greater the drop rate. :D

the "dungeon level" scoring should take into consideration:
1. gear level
1a. every 2 tiers = +1 level
1b. every 4 plusses = +1 level
1c. each level of rarity above white = +0.5
ie...
lvl 55 top purple gear @ t6 +12 = 55 + 1.5 ( t6 = 3 tiers/2 = 1.5 ) + 3 ( +12/4 = 3 ) + 1.5 ( white->green->blue->purple = 3 rarity ) = lvl 61 gear
lvl 55 bottom white @ t3 +1 = 55 + 0 + 0.25 (1/4=0.25)+0 = 55.25

if most of the gear flows between those 2 examples, this person would have ( 61 + 55.25 )/2 = 58.125 gear level

2. class level
2a. primary class = +1 per level
2b. secondary class = +0.5 per level

So a lvl 55/55 would have ( 55 + (55/2))/2 = 41.25 class levels

2c. each set skill enabled = +1
2d. each elite skill earned = +1

so a warrior/druid w/ all 8 elites but 0 set skills would add +8 to the levels making it 49.25 class levels

Taking an average of these 2 things gives us a rough dungeon equivalency of this toon.

( 58.125 + 49.25 ) / 2 = 53.6875

Then we would add up all the toons dungeon equivalencies and divide that # by the max number of players allowed in the instance to find the party's true dungeon equivalency rating.

The DER ( dungeon equivalency rating ) should determine @ what point item shop items drop... last boss standard should be 5%.

Let's say a group of 6 of those guys ran HotO and HotO had a DER of 55, they would fall about 1.3% shy of the DER, so their chances of getting an item shoppe drop from the last boss would be 5%+1.3% = 6.3%. And the game can randomize the item shop item dropped. bind on pickup. :)

Now, if your group rating is higher, like 60 vs. 55, then you would have -5% + 5% = 0% chance of getting item shoppe items from this dungeon.

So your best best is to go into dungeons w/ higher DERs to challenge yourselves and get better chances @ getting item shop drops.

I know this is long winded, but I just thought of it as a way to not only get megas from last boss, but item shoppe items while not making it too easy to earn them.

Megas for 99 dias would be ridiculous...not all of us who buy them spam world, and if they were freely farmable, there would be much more people spamming world chat.

And people under 50 do have a reason to use megaphones, FYI. A lot of new players start selling diamonds in their 30s, sometimes below, and most people (even high level) don't even know about the user-created channels that each server uses for trade and such.

ycavan, I like your ideas for the item shop drops from bosses. If don't properly, it will encourage people to run instances, which should make up for lost profits.

I present this, not as a criticism of your idea, but a potential problem to overcome. If the drop rate of the cash shop items is based on gear level (adjusted for plussing, tier, etc that you outlined in your previous post) then players will figure out how to swap their gear at just the right moment in order to maximize their drop rate.

Let's say the DER is calculated when the boss dies. A solidly geared rogue could run into, for example, HotO, and burn the bosses. But they don't finish the boss with a strong hit, they finish the boss by bleeding them. Just before the last tick goes off, they switch to a full complement of level 10 white gear. The gear value in your formula drops way down at that point. Also, the rogue has no secondary class, and they're running the instance solo. Suddenly they're farming with an extraordinarily high chance of getting cash shop items.

Let's say DER is calculated at the beginning of battle, or upon entering the instance. Again, the character goes in with less-than desireable gear on, then swaps as soon as the DER has been calculated. Then they pop a phirius pot (which are easily farmed from mini-games) to restore their HP in their regular gear.

So how would the system you propose stop those kinds of exploits?

honestly, I figured that the per-toon DER would be calculated as soon as they stepped into an instance. Thereafter, a "highest-DER" would be stored per toon, after any gear swapping, in the instance records.

So, naked toons going into an instance would start w/ a low DER, but if they re-gear in the instance, a new DER is calculated for that toon & then the average is calculated again using the highest recorded DERs.

On the other hand, a fully geared toon going naked during a boss fight would have a really high DER and then the new ( temporary ) DER would be lower, so it's thrown away. The re-calculated DER would have the still use the toon's highest DER values.

That was a really good catch, btw. :D

Nice idea.....

Personally though I think in order to use WC you must pass an IQ test first. A lot of the WC I see is just plain stupid & annoying....

What I would really like to see is a WTS bulletin board where players can post the items they want to sell.

Ironically we already have one of these. You can view it in all of the following towns:

Logar, Elven Island, Varanas, Silverfall, Harf, Lyk, Ayren Caravan, Obsidian Stronghold, Abandoned Fortress, Bolderwind Village, the Green [thing I forgot], the main town in Atoulia Volcano (I don't go there much), Dalanis and more!

It's called the Auction house. :P

You guys are funny, but the AH has the ABL issue. I like the other idea suggested elsewhere better - that you are able to put bound items for sale, but the buyer has to pay for the unbind. That is done in chats now as "WTS XXX, your ABL", but chats are a bad way to conduct trade.

Oh, and people who have more than 3 classes are clinically insane.

Wow, that is actually an awesome idea, and could even be turned into a gold sink. Think about it, bound gear could be put on the AH, and the buyer could pay "x" amount of extra gold (paid to the server, not the seller) to unbind it. You could have the option to pay in dias as well, or even use an ABL you already have in your inventory on the item you wish to buy. There are so many possibilities with this idea.

Yes, we all know abut the Auction House.

I'm talking about a system where players can list the items that they can't sell in the AH because they can't afford or don't want to buy BL & ABL's. They can list the terms that they want to sell the items, and other players can search through it.

What? No.

The forums? Never!

Instead of making a bulletin.

Just improve the house system.

Allow for trading and transactions to be done in your own home.

As someone who has been making Junk Sales in my house for the past year. It's rather successful. I tell people to come to my house, click on the chests. I add them to House Friend, they look at 12 chests full of gear. Buy it and then leave.
