Plussing EQ Gold Sink

I'm proposing adding another way to plus equipment using a tool... let's call this the anvil.

1. Pay 200k for 5 anvil attempts
2. Each piece of equipment is "safe" until it gets a "brittle" debuff that lasts 24 hours. There will be a 20% chance that an item becomes "brittle" after the 1st attempt. So you can always have 1 "safe" attempt.
3. Failures at the anvil do NOT reduce the current plus level
4. If the piece is "brittle" and fails to plus, the piece will lose 1-3 max durability w/ a minimum durability of 10
5. If there is a success, the piece will either add +1 or add 1-2 max durability with a maximum +12/105 dura.

I would make the success rate go down as the plus goes up, of course. ie..
@ 0 - 25% 1 in 4
@ 1 - 20% 1 in 5
@ 2 - 10% 1 in 10
@ 3 - 7% 1 in 14
@ 4 - 5% 1 in 20
@ 5 - 3% 1 in 33
@ 6+ - 2% 1 in 50

80% chance of plus going up & 20% of durability going up when successful. If the piece is already @ maximum plus or durability, there will be no change. ie, piece is already @ +12 & the + should go to +13, it will remain @ +12; likewise if the piece is already 105+ durability and the durability should go up, it will remain the same durability.

The anvil would be a gold sink that comes with a risk. If you try to upgrade a brittle object, you will damage it and lose durability upon failure.

This system would not replace plussing jewels at all. They come with their own risks since you can lose a level upon failure, but you would never lose durability with them.

I am not really sure I would want to give away plussing. I think jewels, annoying and frustrating they may be when they drop the level, work reasonably well.

But, I am completely behind the dura idea. Seen it mentioned a few times, but not to that level of specific details. Throttling the feature with brittle sounds good... or limiting it in some other way. Maybe a simple timer, with owenstein-like character selling those anvils at only a few a day.

Would increase the price, though. I think this is too cheap.

Oh, and people who have more than 3 classes are clinically insane.

Love it, great idea (see below)

Completely agreed. The anvil actually WOULD replace plussing. At least once per day (probably 2 - 3 times, depending on your luck) you get a chance to plus your gear, without risk of failure, for 40k gold per attempt. I would be doing that every single day on every piece of gear. While I am totally 100% in favor with that idea, I really don't see that aspect working out because it would put a HUGE damper on plussing jewel sales.

Now, on the topic of dura increase, also a fantastic idea and a great gold sink. Of course, there is still the issue of losing sales on Golden Hammers, but I don't think it will be nearly as drastic as the loss of sales on plussing jewels. Currently, the only way to get plussing jewels of any significant level is through the item shop, either with your own diamonds or somebody else's. On the other hand, if somebody doesn't want to keep their gear hammered & OD, they just need to wait a little longer or pay a little more on the AH for a naturally OD piece of gear. The fact that naturally OD gear is part of the game mechanics is what makes me think the idea of increasing dura is a possibility.

All in all, well thought out idea. I would certainly get behind this one on a daily basis if it was implemented :D
